My first solo expedition in years and it was a wild one! Hiking the Dragons Back Ridge in the Brecon Beacons and wild camping through the 70mph gusts of Storm Isha. I considered not going because the winds were so high, but the peak of the storm got pushed later and later until the next day. I camped late and left early after not much sleep; it felt like a proper adventure epic.
This route would be an absolute stunner on a nice day! I’d have loved to camped up on the summit plateau had the winds not been so intense. My tent barely made it through as it was. Please take great caution if you are going to head out into stormy weather, only put yourself in situations where you have the experience to make the decisions that keep you safe. A big one is that I would never go out in lightning! Not every storm is the same.
If you visit, please take all your rubbish home with you (if it doesn’t grow there, it doesn’t go there), and make sure you use the public toilets at the start because there isn’t anywhere else along the trail.
Respect the space and leave no trace !
