Using the Otis Cleaning System (with pull-through cable patch instead of a cleaning rod) is just about the only way to clean your Mini-14's barrel lest you risk damage to the muzzle/crown.
Unfortunately, the Otis patches are pretty expensive (although they do work well), and regular patches may not be totally uniform in shape/size. This can cause a patch to lodge between the eyelet and barrel, jamming the entire thing in the barrel.
If you're ever in this situation, I recommend the following:
1) Pull the cable as hard as you can. Get a friend to help.
2) Use pliers to pull the patch out (careful not to rub on the barrel or receiver). Try using pliers on the cable (you'll ruin the cable, but at least it might come out)
3) If all else fails... burn it out. Please be careful!
Burning the patch enough to dislodge it is what I ended up needing to do. This process is depicted in the video, however I do not show the actual burning process. Can't stress enough to be careful, almost all the oils and solvents used on your rifle will be flammable, and the patch itself is flammable - so extreme caution is advised!
