A tantalizing haul, Ed. Glad to see your family lets you get away with enjoying latakia. You'll grow to love those Peretti paint cans. I have some BPC (Burley Plug Cut) sitting around in one from about 10 years ago. And it's still doing fine. And looks great IMHO! Cheers and Mellow Puffs, Mark

Hi Mark, I usually prefer to smoke outdoors, enjoying the scenery and cool, fresh air. I have found, though, that I can sense the flavors in the tobacco much better when smoking inside. Opposite of what I expected. I enjoy dining "al fresco" because the flavors of the food come alive. But, haven't found that so much with pipe tobacco. I have set up an easy chair and side-table in an unused back bedroom, and that has become my "hangout". My wife doesn't seem to mind, so far. I already love the "paint can". (And, the Peretti tobaccos I've tried so far...Oriental #40, really good.). Hand-written labels; initialed by the packer. Very cool! Have a great weekend, and Thanksgiving. Be Well. Ed

Nice selection there Ed! Coincidentally, I just bought a Peretti estate pipe on ebay this morning, so its a Peretti themed day :) Looking forward to your thoughts on Takshent. That one has been on my radar for a while. Enjoy!

A Peretti day, indeed, Mike. You just reminded me. I also bought an estate Peretti Oom-Paul pipe (on ebay), about a year ago. It was a mess when I received it. Did 2 alcohol and salt treatments on it, and still was getting gunk, and who knows what out of it. I put it in a drawer, and forgot about it. Maybe now that I have these Peretti blends, I should take another look at it. I've heard about this "pipe-retort" technique. Are you familiar with that? Sounds a bit dangerous, as it involves 95% grain alcohol, and an open flame. But, supposed to really deep clean a pipe. Good Luck restoring your new Peretti. Take Care. Ed

+GrandpaCavendish I've done the retort, but it is my last resort. If you decide to do it, do it outside and be careful. Boiling flammable liquid can be "exciting." You can always send it over and I'll clean it up for you. Might make for a neat collaboration video :)

Good Morning, Mike: Yes, sure, that would be very good. A collaboration video is a swell idea. I could send it over to you. PM me your information, and we'll go from there with it. Thanks. Ed

Hello Ed! Thanks for sharing this - as always a pleasure to watch! You really picked some interesting tobaccos - let us know, how you liked them! JimK sent me some really nice Perettis a while ago...really good stuff! Do you know, if they also do shipping abroad? Take care Ed - and be well! Mark

Hi Mark: Yes, Peretti will ship abroad. It is suggested to review the products online at their website, and then call to place an order. They do have some interesting stuff. Their website is: www.ljperetti.com BTW, the meerschaum you sent me is fantastic. Everything that I smoke in it tastes great. I think there is much better tobacco flavor with meerschaum, than with briar. And, you get a super cool, and dry smoke, with the 9mm. filter. Both together, is great. Thanks again for your gift, my friend. Ed

I agree, Mike. I like the idea of buying from these small tobacconists. I have nothing against the "big guys", but I'm willing to pay a little more for the personalized, unique, service and products. And, you can find anything you could possibly need at a shop like this. Thanks. Ed

Thanks, Danno. Yes, it's a great tobacco shop. Haven't been there in a long time, but have fond memories of the place. Very old-fashioned, with old scales, and drawers. They really are devoted to pipes, and hand-blended pipe tobaccos, although do carry cigars as well. Also, nice estate pipes. These places are an endangered species, for certain. Thanks for watching. Take Care. Ed

Hey, John, Thanks for watching, and commenting. Oh yeah, I'm pretty well set with tobacco for some time, now. I want to explore the world of English blends a bit. Or, more precisely, Oriental blends. But, couldn't resist an L.J. Peretti burley. So, I threw in the 'Thanksgiving Day". Actually, quite looking forward to that one. (reserving it for the big day!). Hope you are well. Ed

Ed, you chose some interesting tobaccos. I'll definitely be looking forward to your reviews. The Tashkent can brings back a lot of good memories. Back in the day, that kind of tobacco can was the norm at your local tobacconist. Most had a sliding 'key' that pried open the top. Buying 8oz was typical for your favorite blends. Usually the tobacco was in a plastic bag inside the can. I don't recall the tobaccos packaged in that way getting overly dried out. BTW speaking of orders - have you ordered any tea yet? Have a great Friday! Peace

Hello Skip, The "paint can" is really cool. Hand-written label, initialed by the packer. And, yes, a plastic bag inside. Looks to be a good storage container for the tobacco, and so neat looking on the side-table. Real old-school, like you said. I will be going into Manhattan after Thanksgiving, and plan to stop in at Harney in SOHO. Will be picking up some teas then, and sampling some. Have a great weekend. Ed

Thanks, Pipehead. Yes, this was a large order. It's not all for me, though. I'll be sending a good amount on to another YTPC friend, who is a Balkan/English afficianado. I just finished a bowl of the Oriental # 40, and really enjoyed it. It is a soft, mild smoke, with considerable flavor, though. Not sweet at all. I guess, because no VA in it. Very low nicotine. All in all, delightful. Nice room note, too; as I'm alone today, and smoked inside in the living room. Great to hear from you also, as usual. Be Well. Ed
