I don’t see a lot of people talking about this…but I think another big factor that might show Krieger is not really evil is that he’s surprisingly willing to leave Mme. Moreau’s house before and after he thinks she has nothing to do with the hiding of the pilot. Before Gaston drops the compass Jeanne says something along the lines: Jeanne: « Dont you see, there’s no one here! » Colonel Von Krieger: « Then ma’am you have nothing to fear! » He only orders his men to look around more after Durand presses him to do do. After he asks Gaston to sing, he doesn’t take it as a red flag whatsoever and immediately decides he’s seen enough and doesn’t listens to Durand’s complaining. He even says « Sorry for the disturbance. » Before heading out! Very well behaved :)

0:07 Actually when I first saw this part he was clutching hard on his wrist as if to control himself not to hit Colette whenever I looked back to this part I think he have been in stressful situations and ones that risks his life cause of the war to the point he might as well gets angry most of the time so this somewhat shows how he knows how to do self control and doesn’t really want to hurt the others but in the long sobs and winds of freedom episodes he have to take orders from his superiors to some how kill them if I were to guess but that’s my thoughts

A lot of times in the show, he usually seems pretty stressed out or anxious aswell rather than angry, another thing is that a lot of people who fought in war suffer from P.T.S.D., so maybe that has something to do with it

Bro is an Oberst... He's in charge of 2-3k soldiers in the entire Dieppe area, not just the handful that we see in Grangeville. Keeping in touch with them is vital, and the Resistance know this so they keep sabotaging their phone lines. On top of that he's a combat engineer, so he's probably the one dealing with *fixing* the stuff the Resistance breaks. That is some extreme stress. Despite all that, he does his best to treat the villagers fairly if not kindly, and set an example for his men to do the same. This bites him in the ass several times, but he still does it. In the end the General gives him far darker orders than the ones he passes down to his men.

@@lupohutchington269 Pretty much. He enforced the limits on requisition(and held Hans accountable for breaking them), kept the SS out of Grangeville somehow despite Douglas being at large in the area for roughly a YEAR, & when ordered to massacre civilians in retaliation for the munitions warehouse being destroyed - by the General of his army no less - he stuck them in the manor basement for safekeeping and *gave* the local resistance the opportunity for a rescue. This is just the biggest stuff.

The good thing about Les Grandes Grandes Vacanes none of the characters are depicted completely evil or otherwise. The character are depicted as human that sometimes good and sometimes bad. One of the example is colonel Von krueger. Sure he's a bad guy because he's a German High Ranking Officer in occupied France. But he's a bad guy just because it's his job. Other than that he just a man who like Lavender so much. He knows how to behave in front of children. He also sad and shock just like the rest of us when a child refuse to be pat and scared of us. He give no shit when the flag missing but screaming in rage when his Lavender disappear....

Yeah true, Wehrmacht despite being the army and ones invading for Third reich at least didn’t seem to be bad or commit serval war crimes and horrible things, unlike the SS if they were even in this show they’d be worse then both hans or durand combined (even tho just thought of this but durand would prob go to the Gestapo to report any of our main characters activities to them instead of the colonel)
@lufsolitaire5351
Жыл бұрын
Most Wehrmacht officers were just regular monarchal conservatives and moderates. However while some were like Keiger and just did their jobs with no fluff, there were others who turned a blind eye or held national socialist beliefs and actively aided and abetted the SS and Gestapo. How an occupying unit would operate in regard to civilians would depend heavily on the officer and his personal views. They tended to go easier on other Northwestern Europeans but did disdain the Slavs in the Soviet Union(which obviously there were some on an individual level who still conducted themselves with honor). While most were not active members of the Nazi party, they still agreed with maybe 60%-70% of what the Nazis believed and were still men of their era. Like bring fine with enslaving the Slavs but drew the line at genocide which was a belief held by colonel Klaus Von Stauffenberg and many of his ilk.

I personally do not think Colonel Krieger is a Nazi. He may be a high ranking officer in the German Wehrmacht. But so were others, and there few who proved to be good hearted. Krieg really proved his heart for France but had to follow orders from higher officers. He finds beauty in many things, such as the flowers, not the flag that was taken.

The nurmeburg trials only trialed 24 top Nazis (imt), and 185 other high ranking officials (military tribunals). Another 1672 were trialed by other military courts. For reference there were almost 4000 German generals and admirals, 2800 of which survived the war. Colonels are lower ranked than generals, so unless he does something particularly heinous to jump the que it's unlikely he was trialed at all.
