Why do we have to care what Malik Monk "means" for Jaden Ivey? What has Ivey done to prove that he deserves to be a starter next season? If you sign Monk, does that mean that Ivey cannot ever start again? $20M or whatever to be a sixth man, especially under the next CBA doesn't seem prohibitive to me.

Why can't we have both, I'm confused? One is proven and the other needs time to develop and learn from vets which we don't have

That's fair you could have Ivey off the bench and Monk start. Ideally, both of them on the same team would be great to see.

Because Ivey has the potential to be an All-Star and Monk does not. What's good for Jaden is good for the franchise because maximizing his potential is the best way to get two All-Star caliber players. Although I don't think Monk wants to be a sixth man. Especially if he leaves Sacramento for the same money or is paid like a starter. I feel pretty confident this is a Jerami Grant situation. As a sixth man in Sacramento's system I love Monk. Playing closer to a 3-and-D guard -- which is kind of what happens next to Cade -- diminishes a lot of what makes him valuable with his slashing and movement. And if you just want a weakside player to attack downhill against closeouts, well Jaden is better at that. And Jaden wasn't much worse in PnR (0.83 ppp vs 0.91) considering his age and Monty's lineup construction issues If you have three guards like that you want to be able to play them in any combination ... Is Monk actually a good fit on both ends next to both Cade and Ivey? I can see the argument with Cade but he and Ivey you'd almost want to run Sacramento's offense and you can't have two completely different offenses.

@@michaelahurtI agree. Ivey has a much higher ceiling. I think Ivey is going to have his year 3 breakout just like Cade did 2nd half last year. We need wings

Expect trades from teams trying to avoid the tax restrictions, to get draft assets. It worked well for OKC.

Would be a dream fit next to Cade, however, I think he's not a realistic target for Detroit right now.

I understand the Monk thing on paper but just not on this team with Cade and Jaden unless we radically change the offense. And I hate the fit on defense. Especially for $25m/yr Trent is the guy I like because he makes both Cade and Ivey better as an elite spot up shooter who can still get buckets outside of structure (like Norm Powell) and he’s very disruptive on defense Hartenstein I think gets it and would come in as a heavy minute backup so Duren could still start and IH could mentor Duren. Whereas I don’t think any of that is possible with Claxton. Claxton is a straight up replacement I like Tobias just because he’s a true professional and I think we need adults and he plays a position of need. And I like the idea of having a short contract to trade if something comes up. A necessity as an over-the-cap team LaVine and BI depends on the price. But I agree with Bryce if you get BI, you need to try to build an actual competitive team and start the process of trying to compete. I think you offer #5 and Grimes for Caruso at that point. Maybe 5 and Ivey for Caruso and Williams. Sign Monk and one of the centers. Use your mid-level on Marshall. Build a potential playoff team

@@scottwickett1273 Obviously he's better. Manu was better than Michael Finely but still came off the bench. Teams don't always start their five best players The point is Hartenstein is an adult and he gets it so if you needed to bring him off the bench because, oh idk you don't want to destroy the confidence of a 20 year old who could be All-Star some day, you could. I have no clue how Duren would actually handle being benched, maybe it wouldn't matter, but it's dangerous to mess with a young player's confidence like that and it's a fine line to walk.

@@michaelahurt Duren is a very bad player who makes you lose, and I'm dubious about that changing in the next few months. He's not good enough to care about how he handles coming off the bench, because if he's starting you're tanking.

@@scottwickett1273 You're dubious about a 20 year old improving and maturing? That seems rational. Scottie Barnes and Jalen Suggs were terrible last year, huh? Players can't get better in year 3. You probably would have traded LeBron after his rookie year because he wasn't even an All-Star Duren is more talented than Hartenstein or Claxton or anyone that we'd bring in. We aren't competing for a title. We should care way more about who will be a better player in 5 years than next year You don't want to be the team who trades away Chauncey Billups or Lauri Markkanen because you were in a rush to win 40 games and couldn't be bothered to wait for them to develop
