it would be pretty hard to verify wills from different countries, i imagine youre gonna get a ton of people that supposedly died and now they cant access their account, cause they never died, somebody just pretended they died and then changed the password on the steam account

The whole issue about digital ownership has been a hot topic for a while now. Companies are pushing the idea that you don't own the game when you pay for it, but that you are essentially renting the game so long as they allow you access to it. Should the server be shut down(for an online-only game) or any sort of thing happen that you can't play your game anymore, you're not entitled to a refund or any sort of copy of the game. It could be that Steam's ToS is also like that and our games are only ours so long as Steam exists and allows us access. I think if your steam account is banned then you just lose all the games linked to it as well and there's nothing you can do about it. The issue of "do we really own our games?" is showing up more since digital copies become the main way games are bought.

Using the steam family feature is kinda good, if you die then the people in your steam family will still have access to all the games that allow this feature. I can see why Valve would not want to bother with all the paperwork of confirming death certificates etc.

Well, before it was easy because ti1 was in 2011, ti2 was in 2012 etc. The last digit of the year corresponded with the TI number. After we skipped a year it got out of sync and it’s harder to remember Same as Game of Thrones which premiered in 2011 and did a season a year. How convenient

I really find it interesting about the highground thoughts. I do feel that some of this lack of pushing is the own teams mindset. And there are games that could end earlier that dun. At the higher level they dun sometimes it does come down to draft where the draft win lanes but not necessarily good at pushing like synd mention. And that is a strategical aspect and choice in the draft i think highgrounding isnt as bad as some make it out to be

The reason a niche facet shouldn't have an equal win rate is because they are often used when a hero is counter picked. If a hero is counter picked, a facet shouldn't override the difference. It only gives the counter picked hero a chance of still winning. This isn't true for all the low win rate facets of course.

Bequeathing your library in a will to your family upon death. That's a very specific situation. More generally it's transferring part or all of an account. Valve has no reason to allow a second hand games market on their service. It would undercut their store. It would probably have to be policed. It would anger game publishers. How is it going to work with an ubisoft, ea or sony game, that require additional non steam accounts? If valve allows that specific case, they weaken their hold on your account. Can you give it to someone not in your family? Can you split where the games go? Why do you have to be dead for it to be ok to give away your account? Do you own your account or not? Can you use it as you see fit or not?

I'm not a lifestealer specialist by any stretch, but conceptually I'm pretty sure rage is just better than unfettered. Unfettered feels like a niche pick, and its possible that if the facets were just for choosing between rage and unfettered unfettered might have good winrate by just being picked in the games where it's the best, but rage would probably still be the better facet. 100% status res (debuff immunity) is a lot better than 60%, as is 80% magic res better than 60%, but one big thing that I haven't heard brought up is you can't rage TP with unfettered. Conceptually I like unfettered, but from the moment of reading the patch notes I just thought "Why would I ever take this over corpse eater?" and I've seen nothing to change that perception since. There was clearly some animosity from Sorla towards Axe, so I'm guessing the events of Crownfall are happening long after that and they've set aside their differences enough to work together out of necessity.

I prefer TIs being named after the year now, they indirectly used to be with TI6 in 2016, TI3 in 2013 etc but the skipped one because of covid messed it up. The topic of Steam's policy on dead users is an interesting one, and part of a larger issue being the ownership of digital goods. Steam's policy does not surprise me as you do not own any of your games on Steam, only licences to play them which I'd expcet are user specific. Also the fact it'd be a lot of work for Valve to implement such a system where there is no financial benefit, only potential loss and I can't imaging it would be easy to verify wills from all over the world. Kinda sucks your Steam library is gone if you die but I don't think there was any expectation of anything else? I guess keep safe a paper record of your account info if it means that much to you. Unsure what Valve's policy on giving your account away if you were to die would be but philisophically I do agree you should be able to pass on digital goods, but technically I'm not really sure we actually own many digital goods (yet, hopefully)
@Serphion
3 ай бұрын
While I completely agree with you that the principle of ownership should apply to digital goods, in practice this is not as clear-cut. DRM services for one, which Steam very much is. The video game industry, like any other industry operating at that scale, is interested in creating more profit. Thus, it is not in their best interest to allow people to lend or give their games to someone else, if instead they can make it so that a second person must buy the game again. Even if it is an old game only priced at a couple of dollars, that is still net profit. It's a matter of how easily this can be enforced, and given that in this case it's extra legal steps that would require Valve's involvement, then Valve has a straightforward way to enforce it. Unlike just leaving passwords and account name to your children, which can't really be enforced unless there's suddenly a problem and said children would need to contact support and it'll be noticed. OR, and this is silly, there's some database flagging in Steam on Valve's end that will let them many decades from now question if the original owner still exist. If the account is active for, say more than 80 years then perhaps they'll implement some system that says it can only exist for so long. That, however, require everything to remain somewhat intact for multiple decades so...unlikely and I don't think that's worth the hassle for them.

I think the reason they changed it was because they skipped 2020, so it no longer lined up perfectly with the last number of each year. The fact that they changed it to TI 2021, 2022, 2023 etc bothers me as well though.

Completely true. As a old school 8k Pos 1 player, AM is my favourite hero and he's been garbage for so many years. I think the last time he was a highly contested carry was back in 2018. There's just one fatal flaw to AM, he's way too paper to be a carry nowadays. Back when he was a top tier carry he was MUCH more tanky especially when you build heart. It used to be the same as PL buying heart and being unkillable. Now AM still feels paper after being 6 slotted with heart which is not the case for PL or the current top carries (obviously). And the reason this flaw has carried on for so long because Valve has decided that's just how the hero is which is why they created the new blink fragment Aghs skill. It's just a pu$$y skill so AM doesn't have to commit to burn mana and do some damage so he can jump later on and do his thing with less risk. But guess what he STILL LOSES with this aghs gameplay because people just adapt to it. That's why I don't buy this aghs I just play the original AM and being an AM player I somehow manage it but I i do feel the weakness compared to 2018 AM. My AM win rate is around 57%, back in 2018 it used to be easily above 60%, somewhere around 63%.

An Idea to understand the Shadow Shaman Aspect is that it will deal its full damage till is completely killed while the normal ult will loose damage very few hits. You can think of it like if WK Aghs ult gave your team a damage nerf while green. Would still allow for good DPS while under attack.

Steam Games: Don't forget, you don't OWN any of the games in your library (or any other DRM library), just a license to use them under certain conditions. Per steam anyway... per US Law, you own any digital goods you buy so there's room for dispute I suppose. A french appeals court apparently disagreed with steam's policy on the right to resell your games but then reversed their decision much later in appeals.

Thankfully Jack KBBQ Chen G2.IG team qualified after this podcast. Unfortunate for Bach and Fy and AR in general but they do look underwhelming lately About the Steam account inheritance upon death topic, I fully believe the reason why they said no because of every country differing law about this kind of Digital Ownership whether it made sense good or bad. If I was Valve I would also not give an official okay so the Government won't get up my ass about any possible dumbass reason they wanted to say no to. Recently the are organization going around taking down old digital games/books library that isnt availlable for purchase anymore too so this might be related to Steam no having a go at Digital transfer to family and friends upon death
