My great, great grandfather lived in Coleford and worked in the pits there as a miner and later as an inspector. He died at his home in Coleford in 1930.

@@leemon2677 it's possible there's none left. If things ever go back to normal I'm going to take a trip to Coleford and the surrounding area. Thanks for reaching out

Hello Tim. Thank you so much for uploading these wonderful social history films about the Somerset Coalfield. My dad's family lived and mined in Midsomer Norton from 1840 to 1933, when my Grandfather, Albert Coleman, was injured down the mine and my Grandmother, Alice Coleman, took over the Wellsway Inn in Westfield.

I worked in Writhlington & Kilmersdon Pits. I wouldn't have missed it but I was glad to get out of it.

I worked at Writhlington and Old Mills and I was glad to get out of it also. I do believe that it made a man of me though, working in those conditions. :) :)

Honestly, Selwyn, my grandad, great grandad and great great grandad all worked down Tynings and I've never done anything heavier than dig the garden. My grandad was pulling a putt with a guss and crook when he was twelve. I was making Airfix kits. Progress???
