I just wanna say i am SHOCKED so many ppl have had bad border or immigration experiences! 😬. It is also incredibly unfair that based on where u come from, some ppl already have assumptions and prejudices abt certain nationals which makes their travel harder or easier, (this is probably why ive had no problems until now). I also wanna say this isn't a race thing, i only brought up their accents for context so please don't do that. Also like i said in the video, i understand their suspicion. What i wnt excuse is being held because of a law that doesnt exist. I was only following the advice i was given. Because i haven't had any problems since, why would i question it? So ill meet with another lawyer to understand my options and status. I have no problem leaving or looking at other visas. All this time tho i thought everything was perfectly fine because of what the first lawyer told me.

Omfg, something similar happened to me in June of this year (I'm currently on holiday in the US, from the UK) and because I'm staying here for 3 months, I got pulled aside for questioning at the airport (in the UK) as I was checking into my flight. After nearly 2 hours of making sure that I'm not going to the US to "steal jobs", she finally let me board my plane. Upon arrival, I told my American friends about what had happened to me and he had told me that his lawyer friend explained that me telling that woman that I'm a KZitemr is not a good thing because essentially me filming in the US is like "using the country's assets" for monetization which equal to me illegally working in the US .............So I guess that means I've been working in every other country I've been staying at then. =/

Anyways, when he was done with training he flew me out so that we coupld do the tourist thing in London for 1 week before going back home. He had made all the reservations, hotel, flights, etc. and was going to pick me up at the airport. When I came in I couldn’t answer where I was staying, when my flight was back home, etc. so I was detained. I was like if you want that info just ask my bf who is picking me up on the other side. When they asked what he did for work I couldn’t answer that so it made me more suspicious lol. They sure are suspicious of women traveling alone too. Like they thought I was going there and trying to just stay in the UK. I was so relieved when they finally released me after a couple of hours but I was freaking out because it was the first time as an adult traveling alone out of the country. Especially during Covid, there were so many bogus incidents like that where customs would “create” their own rules thinking they are right, when they actually, just like here, assumed some rule as the law when, in fact, it is not. Most people just went along with it and received unfair treatment. We do need to learn how to exercise our rights, too or we will have more cases of these kind of “officials” flexing their muscles and clearly going on a power trip with a person who has done nothing wrong. Hey love (apologies for this long response), just so you know, your experience was unfortunate but certainly not unique. It's typically how UK immigration treats visitors (unless you're a wealthy Asian (Chinese etc) because I've seen them being given an easy time, even when they're just visiting family.) Also you will find that immigration officers of Indian, Pakistani etc and mainland African descent will actually treat you worse than Caucasian agents. It's as if they have something to prove (and yes ppl may deny it but race and culture sometimes play a factor). I would say you weren't treated as badly in comparison to some other persons. Immigration can actually deny you entry if they have just cause and sometimes just because. Just cause may simply be a case of your response to a question not ticking a particular box. I know of persons who were denied entry despite having a job offer and proof of such. Immigration sent them on a return flight to their home despite the fact that they had a legal right to be there, namely to assume a post for which they were granted sponsorship by an employer. UK Immigration, laws and culture may be quite different from the US. And unfortunately pursuing legal action may prove futile but it's worth a try to clarify that two week issue, although once six months is granted that should be fine but its best to be sure as he may have noted it in the database and or, it may be a test as you're now on their radar. However, I believe you're more likely to succeed in a legal challenge of US rather than UK border control. Furthermore, none of the immigration officers were being nice, they were simply being British. Playing nice was a psychological mind game used as a tactic to make you comfortable so that you would slip up. It's also the British way to be pleasantly fake polite while doing what is necessary even if it's to your detriment, so please don't be fooled. Conversing with you about your time of detention and the fact that you haven't eaten in so long or the tv show was not special treatment or an attempt at being genuinely nice or concerned. They were simply being British....... while executing their duties and following procedure. Had you been on the street engaging in suspicious behaviour, the police would have been pleasant as well by asking questions and giving you a chance to respond before for example using force, unless you resist and become aggressive of course. Difference in approach and a culture of politeness even if it's fake. Just know as well that there are ppl observing the behaviour of passengers as they arrive via camera, not simply the agents you encounter when you land (as in any international airport). You were probably being observed throughout the whole process to see if your words/verbal responses matched your behaviour. It is also their culture to talk very loudly even when discussing something as personal as the reason for your detention. They do not care about being discrete or the embarrassment you would have endured. They will do it with a smile and send you on your way. Also regardless of what you found online and the information provided by that immigration lawyer, it is expected that a person would have a return ticket when visiting a country, unless they have a legally justifiable reason with proof, for not leaving within a certain time. Typically immigration will give you 6 months stay and same will be stamped in your passport but some ppl receive even less. Saying you don't know when you're leaving raises a red flag and is justification for further questioning because it is expected that visitors will have a date for leaving the UK or any country for that matter. Visiting the UK so often also raises another red flag, as you don't have any connection to the UK such as family or heritage and the requisite Visa to justify such other than a Tourist Visa. They will automatically assume that you're visiting on a Tourist Visa but in reality you're working illegally (including baby sitting for friends etc.) or engaged in some type of nefarious activity(including some form of modern day slavery) which requires that you are in the jurisdiction so often. Don't expect them to automatically believe you when you say you're not interested in living or working there because in all fairness, visitors lie to them on a daily. You should also know that in the UK, ignorance of the Law is no excuse, so saying you weren't aware of a rule/law will not help (even if they're using a non-existent law to manipulate you), so although the immigration agent used the absurd example of shooting someone, he was actually correct. Furthermore, sometimes it's not simply legislation but also custom and legal precedents (decided cases) that comprise the law in some countries. Immigration and Customs are also given a lot of freedom/ discretion to exercise their duties in what may be deem to be a reasonable manner and unfortunately it may be to your detriment. Not having a particular experience with immigration in the past doesn't guarantee that it wouldn't happen in the future or that the immigration officers were wrong on this occasion and that it can be used as an excuse. Sometimes the experience with immigration can sometimes be based on luck/chance as ridiculous as it sounds. In some airports ppl are subjected to additional searches at random and may not experience it on every occasion they attempt to enter that particular country. The behaviour of the immigration officers was unprofessional but not uncommon. I hope it's your last time having this experience but I suggest you either travel with a return ticket or find another Visa option because the UK isn't a country to play with right now. They're very immigrant adverse especially given the racial , geopolitical and cultural tensions that have been prevalent over the last few years.

So, can I stay in the UK for more than 6 months at a time? The short answer to this is still no. However, even though you cannot stay for more than 6 months at a time, you can, in theory, leave at 6 months and then come back to the UK soon after. The actual rules do not have any specific cumulative time limit in them. So, once your first stay of 6 months is over, it would be possible to return within the same calendar year for another visit even though it would bring your cumulative total time in the UK that year to over 180 days. However, the rules do say that a visitor has to show that they will not ‘live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK their main home’. This is very different from having a specified time limit. What does the reality of this look like? It may be easier to explain in an example. Say that you have a large extended family in the UK . She have no intention of moving to the UK. However, on her return to xxxxx she decides that she would quite like to join her UK-based family for Christmas. Can she do this? With caution, yes. However, there are a few things she needs to look out for in order to stay within the rules and avoid any potential issues at the border: 1. Having clear reasons for her return to the UK that are within the allowed visitor activities (including visiting for tourism, to see family members, undertaking a short course of study or certain business activities). In her case, she is coming to visit family for the specific purpose of spending Christmas together. 2. She needs to be able to show that this is not a pattern of long visits that will continue. For example, she could bring copies of her grandchildren’s birth certificates with her to show that they were recently born and this was the reason for her long trip. Now she would like to spend her first Christmas with them. She could point to the stamps on her passport showing that prior to that, she had only made short trips to the UK. She could bring bank statements showing that she has plenty of funds in Bulgaria and proof of ownership of her home. 3. Ultimately, the rules place a lot of power in the hands of the Home Office staff either at the border or making a decision on a visit visa application, so she will need to have convincing answers to any questions asked, if she is stopped. There can be no guarantees that her answers would be accepted but acceptance is much more likely if she has a clear, legitimate purpose in mind and documents to back it up. In summary, you can visit the UK for more than 6 months in a year, as long as you are doing so for an activity which is allowed as a visitor and you can show that you are not falling foul of the rules, particularly the part referring to ‘frequent and successive visits’ and making the UK ‘your main home’. It cannot be guaranteed that frequent, successive visits would be accepted by the Home Office as discretion rests with them, at least initially, for deciding who is and who is not a legitimate visitor. That being said, it is always helpful to know that you do not have to be tied down to any specific time limit and visitors can, and do, manage to visit the UK for periods cumulatively longer than 6 months in a year.

Sounds like a tough experience. You can stay for more than 6 months as a US citizen as long as you periodically leave and go to another country BUT you working as a youtuber on a visitor visa is likely to be considered self-employment and that is not allowed under a visitor visa. Taxes are not an issue as you can pay in the US. Not sure what lawyer you spoke to but I would double check with someone about being a KZitemr and whether or not that is considered as being self-employed because it is in most countries and if you're making videos while you're in the UK which I think you're sitting in marika's bedroom right now, that violates that specific criteria under a visitor's visa.

Smh my friend went through this in the Bahamas. I had had to check them and they tired to arrest me but the US and my home country got involved. They then tired to ban me for 5 years like I cared. 🤷🏾♀️In 5 years I went to Dubai, Bali, Japan, Korea, Mexico with no Issues nor a care for the Bahamas.

Really sorry this happened to you. Definitely a confusing situation because the rolling rule definitely applies in Schengen but not for the UK. But if you keep entering and its flagged they are starting to crack down because now they have this creative visa. Similar situation happening in Mexico. Also countries that have recently launched digital nomad visas.

I’m sorry you had to go through this, unfortunately this is something that a lot of people, I am a Spanish citizen , but before getting my Spanish citizenship, it always took me hours to go through British immigration. I used to visit the UK because my parents lived there, I used to go there with a visa from the British consulate, a return ticket, 2 or 3 credit cards including a gold credit card, and invariably I was always asked to wait, on a good day it would take 2 hours, the worse was 12 hours, never offered a comfort room, treated like a criminal. My dad passed away, mum doesn’t live in the UK, with my Spanish passport I could probably waltz in, but I don’t see myself going to the UK anytime soon, because of the border police.

You should report those two if he took you to a detention room there has to be paper and documented with the exact times you got there not to mention your actual flight ticket that you purchased they need to be accountable for why they kept you for almost twelve hours he needs to be accountable for his actions and how they treated you! And I’m sure there is actual camera footage inside that airport when you arrived and how long you were there and all the interactions you had with the different personnel.

They are trained to try to trip, you up in your stories. This way they can come over and say that the story that you gave them doesn't make sense. They are studying your body language, if you are sweating, and go through your luggage. Are there any drugs, Overall, they can detain you for no reason. They can deport you too.

Something similar happened to me in Canada. I was just flying through, from China to the states, with a short layover in Vancouver. But they held me in Vancouver for so long that I was more than a day late when I reached my final destination! The problem was, I ended one job in China, and I was taking a week vacation before starting the new job in China. And my new employer was preparing my new residence, but I didn’t have the address yet. And I was honest about that fact with the immigration agent. I could have just lied and given them my previous address. Instead, my honesty brought down their scrutiny and I missed my flight. Hours waiting, public humiliation, repeated extensive security searches of my stuff and of my entire body. I WISHED I had something for them to find so that the torture would end.

That is an awful experience for you to have to go through. Did you say accent, Indian per se. Worse cultural idiots to meet in immigration/custom personnel in any country. Have met them in USA at TSA/custom/immigration;terrible personnel. Worse case is that they make their own rules. I am too pissed hearing your story to say anything; however, I do agree you should talk to an attorney. So sorry Sisi this happened to you, and they’re liars. Profiling!!!
