Absolutely, positively the best ukulele instructor on our planet. You have a very sweet, aloha, way of teaching all of us. I’m 76 and NOT a musician. But whenever I play for a senior group, somebody will comment that they like the song “STAND BY ME”. I tell them all about you, and how YOUR ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO TEACH THE ISLAND/CALYPSO STRUM. Mahalo from the bottom of my heart Cynthia.

My teacher taught me a trick: The C to Em change is easier if you finger the C with your second finger, instead of your third. To move to Em, you drop the first finger into place, slide second finger over one string, and drop the third finger onto the string beyond that. You can even "cheat" on the C by putting your first finger into Em position, behind the second finger doing the actual C chord...

+yevgenz some interpretations of the song have way too many chords in it such as adding D, Dm7 and E7 at Uke Tabs which are unneccesary and make the song more difficult than it should be. Some use a chord progression of C, Em, Am, F, C, Em, Am, F9, F for the intro. The extended intro (the ooohs) C, Em, F, C, F, E7, Am, F. Chorus Chord Progression of C, Em, F, C, F, G, Am, F. Verse Chord progression: C, G, Am, F. the only real difference is the addition of F9 and E7.

Thanks so much. I've been a guitar player forever and have owned an old Regal uke for a few years but never sat down to learn all the chords I need to play some of the songs I know. A little girl from across the street came over today to ask if I could tune her brand new ukelele (still had the price tag attached). I tuned it and got my own ukelele out to learn some chords. This is everyone's favorite and was very easy for me. I suggested the little girl could come over and I'd beam up some beginner lessons and we can learn a bit together as I help her with rhythm and fingering. Like to get her going quickly so she can show off for her mom and brothers and sisters. That will help keep her interested.

This is by far the best tutorial for Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Very simple and very helpful for beginners. Two sections with fairly simple chords make it very easy to remember. The strum pattern is very simple as I already knew the island strum. I never wanted to learn something more in my life than to learn how to play this little instrument. I donated so hopefully it helps you because I'm hoping I can learn from you. I'm so frustrated with the learning process and jumping around on KZitem and online forums and feel like I run into roadblocks somewhere in each way that stops me. I'm giving this tutorial/your tutorial a trial run. If I can't find a good long term answer to learning my heart will be broken. For some reason since my introduction to it's sound it spoke to my soul in a way that I feel I was born to play it, I'm 100% dedicated, it's the process of finding a good long term way of learning that's been so frustrating.
