Beautiful, thank you so much for sharing your gift with the world. My dad used to love listening to this song while he was battling cancer. Now that he is gone, listening to this song brings joy to my heart. ❤

You will never hear a saxaphone played any better than this. Never! I am at a loss of words to describe what I am hearing from an old sax played by a truly gifted man .. Aubra Graves

Geeze. Where has this guy been? I've listened to a few of these videos of him playing with the Aebersold CDs, and I'm just stunned. What a beautiful player! His command of harmony and note choices is exquisite. I understand he passed away. What a loss! I agree with other comments: if he had a CD, I'd buy it, definitely. Aubra is right up there with the greatest of the sax patriarchs. I love my new Phil Barone tenor, but I've got an ancient Conn that needs a ton of work done on it to make it playable, and now Aubra's got me thinking it might be worth the expense of getting it back in shape. Regardless . . . thanks, Jazzsaxtenor, for sharing these marvelous recordings.

This is a Golden Era 1941 pre war Conn 10M Tenor Saxaphone, of which I am also fortunate to be the proud owner of a 1935 Model. At full song no other Saxaphone possess the tonal value of this musical instrument. Can't help but to listen to this Saxaphone Maestro time and time again. His phrasing and articulation is 'INFECTIOUS.' RIP ! 🎶 👑 👏

Nice sound, Aubra! Your sound is like Dexter on his Conn-Otto Link, buy you have a nice rounded deep sound in your Berg Larsen...
@JiveDadson

elinnombrable Great sound does not come from equipment. Dexter sounded exactly like Dexter after his Otto Link was stolen in 1954 and replaced with a Dukoff Hollywood. He sounded exactly like Dexter when he switched to the Selmer Mark VI saxophone. (He must have preferred the VI for some reason, maybe the ergonomics.) One thing the great players like Mr. Graves _do not do_ is to pick a fight with the setup that cannot be won. Dexter Gordon used a 5* mouthpiece. Tip opening was only 0.085". He did not use a hard reed either. It makes me a little sad when I hear players struggling to play their 8* mouthpiece with the #4 reed or whatever. Music is not weight lifting. There are no points for degree of difficulty either.

I think you're saying the reverse. Dexter played with a Dukoff until stolen saxophone and mouthpiece in France, I think at the airport. There are several discussions that number had its mouthpiece. Here I leave a link as the source of what I tell you. theowanne.wordpress.com/2008/08/28/the-dexter-gordon-dukoff-mystery-solved/ forum.saxontheweb.net/archive/index.php/t-9646.html

elinnombrable Theo Wanne sells mouthpieces. I am am sure they are very nice ones. For the prices he asks, they should be. I was quoting Dexter Gordon himself in an interview. He said he played a 5*. In that interview he was specifically warning people about getting caught up looking for the perfect mouthpiece or playing too open a piece. I can probably find the interview. It is online.
