Thanks! Got some good ideas from this video. From other videos on this topic: -- Tritone -- Purple Haze starts out with ascending then descending tritones. -- Minor 6th -- "100 Years" by Five for Fighting starts out with a minor 6th ("I'm fifteen..."). -- Major 7th -- Final line of "Have your self a merry little Christmas", the "And have yourself" in the last bit, "have your" notes are a major 7th.

This is a fantastic way to get intervals in our ears. It seems that if you can get an opening interval in your mind and ears, it is so much easier to know where to go next. And totally loved the way you took joy in taking off on Yardbird Suite. Its clear though, you have practiced this a lot, which is what i need to do more of.

Tritone descending: "TURN BACK, O man..." from Godspell. Also, "MA-RI-a" from West Side Story is a tritone ascending, so you could reverse it in your head.

Descending major 7th, not at the start, but easily found. Think of the song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and the last line “And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.” The interval between “have” and “your” is a descending Major 7th.

Very helpful video! I used songs for ascending intervals to identify descending ones and it kinda worked for me, but it was kinda weird. Can you make a video on identifying harmonic intervals? I have an ear training app but for some reason I can't get harmonic intervals right. Chord triads are easier since each has a certain "feel" to it
@GracieTerzian

Hi! Yes, definitely. Harmonic intervals are way harder to identify.. i personally find it extra difficult to identify the lower note in a harmonic interval.

Is there another way to get intervals in your head without associating them with a particular song? If I’m doing an exercise, it’s not too bad to recognize the interval in different songs. But when I’m actually singing a song, it’s very difficult to switch over and imagine an interval in another song being put into the current song. Help! Thanks.

I'm practicing on piano and my problem is when I do intervals is if we're going from C to a lower black key like C to E flat for example what key are we in is it still C scale or E flat scale like do u play the A flat and B flat if your playing something or just the C notes after the E flat note , it's just so confusing sometimes I just get trapped inside the scales sometimes and just don't have much freedom love your videos and I'm hoping in future videos I will have the ah ha moment

For the descending major 3rd I like to think of the little 8 note song that grandfather clocks do right before they do the “dongs” at noon(or midnight or both?). I wish I knew the name of the song but it starts with a descending major 3rd to the root and then goes to the second and then the 5th and then hits the 5th again to the second and then ends again with the major 3rd descending to the root again. And it’s so weird, because even though it does the major third, descending to the route note in the beginning and the end, it has a completely different feeling the second time when you end it. There’s probably a reason for that but to my ear, it almost sounds like two completely different notes when you finish the line with it as opposed to starting the line with it. If anybody knows the name of that song, I’d appreciate learning it. Thanks.

You take all the notes in a scale, ie, CDEFGAHC and stack them in thirds, oe. CEG, DFA,, EGB... And so you have all the chords of a scale.
