Halsey said Honey is just about loving a wild girl. She said she actually just wrote this on a whim because her brother wanted to see how the process of writing a song goes. So they sat down one afternoon before dinner and wrote it just so he could get the experience. She ended up liking it enough for the album.

You're very much right about the fact that this album is pretty much a tale of her life story. Halsey talks about this in the Apple music interview- she felt like she needed to heal all her past traumas before she gave birth and in a way this album played a part in that. It's about the anxiety that comes with being pregnant, the rage about how women are viewed as either sexual beings or mothers, the hope she has about bringing life into this world and finally being in a happy place.

Bells Is Santa Fe is written from the perspective of all her past miscarriages. Halsey had miscarriages in the past so they wrote this song about not being hopeful the baby they're about to have will be alive till the birth. Also they sing "don't call me by my name, all of this is temporary" it's like the baby is telling them that "don't call me by any name you want to name me because I'll die" 🥺

The song Honey was just a fun song not meant for the album where Halseys brother asked to see what it was like to write a song, so they went into the booth and recorded this song about a “wild woman” as a cute lil LGBT bop and it ended up being so good it had to be included!

The lighthouse is her being a mythical siren who lures sailors to their death and it’s such a badass song that a lot of people don’t like at first, including myself until I really dove into the lyrics while listening a couple times. It’s so cool when the whole siren thing clicks. Ya’aburnee is Arabic for “bury me” because life is too unbearable to live without you. a letter to Halseys partner and her baby they said. Watching you react to "Darling" actually made me cry because it made me imagine my parents when they were expecting to have me, their first born, and how now, many years later, I may be living up to their hopes and expectations. What if I've caused them more pain than any happiness I could ever give them? What if they were so ready to welcome a person into their hearts but I've tarnished and betrayed that part of them by not always being everything they ever wanted in a child? Well... This comment is beginning to smell of fear, so I'll go. But any who, thank you for letting me cry, I think I needed it.

Hey, I want you to know that you owe your parents no specific outcome. They have to love you whether you meet their specific expectations or not. It seems you love them alot, and want to make sure they’re happy with who you are, it’s okay to love them and want to live up to what they want from you, but please please please make sure to put your happiness and priorities before those of anyone else, even including your parents! I stumbled upon your comment and hope these words might help, cause I used to be just like you, I promise you the second you stop trying to mold yourself into the shape others want from you you’ll feel so free.

Can some of the commentators stop trying to overshadow H with NIN? YES Trent & Atticus produced it but all of the lyrics, melodies, etc are all H. And some instrumentals are Lindsey Buckingham, Dave Grohl, and others. Halsey made the decisions and it’s Halsey’s album and she doesn’t need to be overshadowed by men. Even geniuses that H dreamed of working with.

Halsey & NIN = WIN. She wanted to work with NIN and they both complement each other so well. Trent and Atticus have won an oscar and a grammy (or two) for their movie soundtracks. So many genres represented, yet they all work together seamlessly to incorporate the main themes. Probably going straight into my Top 10 All-time Albums.

I feel like when you hear ‘bells in Santa Fe’ it feels like it just is like constantly building but at the same time stagnant. in such a way that it feels like if this song is associated to a person it would feel like this person is going through shit and is getting hit left and right with bad shit until theres this breaking point where it becomes to much and they just explode and that’s what becomes of easier then lying. It’s like when a switch in your head and persona is activated and you kinda become a bad bitch but in the worst way possible. It’s an anger overload.

ILY so much Dan I smiled when I saw this video finally came out haha. You were right about the simmering of the music and impending doom e.g in track 2 I like how even tho it's a rock album its not mainstream pop rock it's very alt like most of the songs have no drops and no huge catchy hooks which works well as the songs sound good even without that as the album Halsey said is meant to be a horror album essentially and you definitely feel uneasy and like you're missing something and it's quite eerie ngl when the songs dont actually release tension and dont have big drops or huge choruses and end up making you feel uneasy which is so smart haha. Halsey said even tho manic sounded happy and bubbly at parts as they were not feeling happy during recording it but it manifested itself in a different way and they originally planned manic to be this punk pop aggressive sounding record whereas with THIS ALBUM they said in the apple music interview that they are happier than theyve ever been regardless of the album contrasting that with a darker sound. Also with track 6 if you re-listen to it the ending is supposed to sound like you're drowning which is so creepy but awesome in the best way possible ngl hehe

Something I've noticed in your reactions: I would suggest looking up the actual full lyrics either during listening or after listening in order to get the full picture of what the song means, especially with very poetic artists like Halsey. You comment on the song while it's still going on and you often miss key lyrics while you talk that will give you a clearer understanding. Really loved the reaction tho! I'm just giving a suggestion. And one more thing: I'm pretty sure Halsey has a son, not a daughter lol
