Fantastic, authentic reaction. You truly understand great bodies of work and all the facets required to form a diamond. ❤ PS the Dunning/Kruger effect fact was fascinating. I recall a couple of famous people including our prime minister admitting to this.

Im really glad I found your reaction cause it helped me construct the thought on why this album is getting "mixed critics". This album can be easily understood if you're in one side a ~close~ fan of Lorde (as I am) and has been following (really) her career from the beginning of it, or on the other side someone who works with music and can relate to the lyrics and can truly understand how -not simple at all- these songs are. If you're in the middle between those 2 positions you might not connect to this album, and that's okay (if you're not being an asshole throwing shade on it). I guess this is what means when someone says that the artist wrote an album for the fans. Not necessarily saying that only her fans will like it, saying that we will understand what she's talking about, when she's being ironical or the episodes that she's writing about. Thank you ma'am

Yes exactly!! So glad you enjoyed the video! Music can be such a difficult thing to critique or review because it's so subjective, and not all music is written for everyone. There is a target audience/person in mind, and I always think it's important for the person reviewing to keep that in mind. If I listen to something and don't like it, I have to remind myself that it doesn't mean it's a bad song, it just means I don't like it. And even still, there are usually some things you can learn from it! I did genuinely love this album though and was so impressed with Lorde's growth as a songwriter. I might have to get this one on vinyl!!

I think rather than writing an album for her fans she simply wrote one for herself. She never intended to have a big hit with this album but rather express what she’s been feeling in the way she does best.

When _'Pure Heroine"_ was released in 2013, it influenced and changed pop music with its subject matter, tone, sparse electro beats and minimalism. She really doesn't get the credit she deserves in that regard. Fans that don't like her new album are obsessed with 808's, there's more to music than a drum machine. Although I do think it would have been a stronger project if a couple of songs were cut and replaced with the stronger bonus tracks...just sayin'.

Yes I am absolutely loving her unique sound! It's so much easier to copy a formula that works and just pump that out. But to create a new and unique sound is the mark of a true artist!!

Love your reaction. As a fan i couldnt imagine anything better. Shes celebrating the nature, her family and friends, her baby boy big star. Its honest, deep, meaningful, relatable. She was brave to share her fears...the fears we all have and never in a million years imagined she would feel the same. She was brave doing what she wants. And the way she mixed 60s(when her parents were younger) and 2000s(when she was a girl) fits perfectly with the message. Its not mainstream, its not for everyone...but is such a body of work and its her best writing so far

It’s so Magical and Sounds Sophisticated, it’s like i’m walking in a museum and everything has its own story and feeling…. And the 60’s with the early 2000’s track and of course her poetic lyricism, So Unique, A Masterpiece that i never heard or my soul is finding for this whole life. Thank you Lorde for making my life meditated. ☀️💛 This album hits harder in the sunrise or laying down on quiet place like beaches.

Love your enthusiasm! Have you heard The Warning? 3 sisters (girl power!) who are signed to the same company as Lorde. Their newest is 'Evolve', from their upcoming 3rd album, or their 2nd is Queen of the Murder Scene. Queen is a concept album that traces the descent of a girl from love to obsession, stalking, murder, and madness. Dust to Dust is the intro, with the drummer singing lead while drumming furiously. All videos are professionally shot and are available on their YT channel.

Lorde doesn't do an intro for her songs. Ever. I think the closer thing to an intro in her albums is on Sober (from Melodrama) but it's also her voice, don't know if that counts
