Thanks so much for this tutorial + explanation. This has helped explain a lot of strange audio I've had delivered to me recently!

Ha! Sorry to hear about the odd audio, but happy to help!

That added 8 hz almost sounds like a cool vibrato effect, might be able to use that in some creative ways for designing sound effects or interesting music

Definitely! If you like the sound, you can even add the subaudio, then, once it sounds how you want it, you can filter the subaudio out (so it doesn't cause other problems) and just have the sound you want.

So much wisdom here. Thank you. Any thoughts on uneven voiceover waveforms? At first I thought DC offset, but after researching and assessing my waveforms and signal chain, I realized it may not be DC offset, but in this case, what could be the cause? And is there a fix from the recording end that doesn't involve phase rotation or high pass? Been curious about this for a long time!

If I'm understanding you correctly here, "uneven", as in going further from the zero axis on one side more than another, isn't actually a problem. Some waveforms are just like that. Remove DC offset recenters the waveform, but, for example, if it's going to a *higher amplitude* on one side of zero, and spends a *longer time* on the other side of zero, that can look uneven, but actually isn't an issue.

Maybe it wouldn't be so noticeable if you weren't clipping

The same effect will occur even if you are under 0dB
