Sonic Triple Trouble is my favourite as it's the very first Game Gear Sonic game I ever played and it's the better of the rest.

I'd say the appeal of the Game Gear games are the novelty of having a handheld Sonic experience. I played through all of 8 bit Sonic 1 and Triple Trouble on my 3DS. Nothing groundbreaking, but decent games for what they are. I may be the only person to find Sonic Labyrinth to be a fun an interesting take to maneuvering Sonic, though I've only played through the first few levels. You're limited in your movement, so you have to strategize and think about where your spindash will send him. It's kinda like 8 ball pool but with Sonic.

That's unfortunate that you didn't make it very far in some of these games...I've had a lot of fun with game gear sonic 1, Triple trouble and chaos. Nothing amazing, but after playing the genesis games so much, it's fun to explore totally new zones that use the Genesis Sonic physics more or less. And I think Mecha Green Hill Zone is so cool visually and gameplay wise. It's basically a green hill bad future.

19:01 this one got ported, because Brazil being third world country, so eletronics (manly video games) are fucking expensive here, so in 1997, even with the Playstation and Saturn already launched ,the company who had the license from Sega to release their consoles(TecToy) still making Master System because it was the most affordable option for most of the people at time,so we get a bunch of GameGear ports on MasterSystem so late, including Sonic games, they even made a port of Street Fighter 2 for the Master System

The reason the master system version of sonic blast only got realized in brazil is because the ms was a huge succes there and got even other games ported there like sonic triple trouble, street fighters, etc.

Tails Adventures is my fav of the Sonic Game Gear library. A Metroidvania Tails game that takes advantage of his high intellect. I wouldn't mind a remake or sequel.

As someone who only had a Master System with Sonic 1 I only played that game for a really long time but can see the lack of appeal to some fans. Since you mentioned the Sonic Chaos Remake I would like to mention 2 completed fan made projects I worked on that you might enjoy! They are both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 SMS Remake! They are basically your basic Christian Whitehead treatments to Sonic 1 and 2 with their own twists! Since you are more of a Genesis Era fan I reccomend you giving a shot! They are available on both Android and PC and support MANY new features, such as extra characters, all the abilities we are now familiar with, new zones, FM and 16-bit versions of the OST's, Time Attack Mode, Boss Rush Mode, Local Multiplayer with Cross Play and much, MUCH more! Hope this helps you out to expand more of your Sonic Lore :) Edit: I finally reached the end of the video and saw you mentioned these projects at the end, whoops 😅

10:54 That voice sounds oddly familiar… Sounds like someone I know, but I can’t quite place it… Sonic’s Game Gear library always struck me as unusually different from the other consoles he’s appeared on. But the unorthodox design of those Game Gear games sure makes for some interesting content! Nice work here!

12:37 I got stumped on this boss too as a kid. Basically you gotta press the jump button after hitting the spring so you'll be in ball form when you hit it. I don't blame you for not knowing since it isn't something that is conveyed well, and is exclusive to this game

Sonic the Hedgehog (the original) on Game Gear is almost as fondly remembered by me as the Mega Drive original. Amazing soundtrack, and it had Bridge and Jungle Zone which were a big change from its bigger sibling.

The music in Sonic 1 Master System being so good is thanks to Yuzo Koshiro. He was behind the music in the Streets of Rage series, and Revenge of Shinobi.

While I understand that coop didn't plan on playing them for more than an hour, I felt a bit bummed that he didn't play past the first level of Tails' Adventure. I feel like that while the other game gear games are eh, TA is an interesting oddity as it's kind of like a metriodvania than a standard platformer. Hope he plays that one soon.

I love the Master System Sonic platformers,(with the exception of Sonic Blast, which i don't hate, but I do think it's really uninspired)but I don't blame you for not wanting to play through them all, they don't really keep your attention, unless you're hooked on them in like the first 15 minutes, like I was. The reason I like them a lot is because I find the jumping controls to be easier to control than the 16-Bit Sonic platformers,(at least in the ones developed by Aspect) DON'T @ ME! Oh and I also really like their music, and the level themes like Sunset Park from Triple Trouble. Speaking of Triple Trouble I also really like Sonic's sprite, and the longer levels from the previous 8-Bit Sonic platformers.

I flicking hate 8 bit Sonic 2. Bs level design, horrible screen crunch, and terrible experience in general. I stick to the Genesis Sonic 2. Also, I'm kinda of guilty of liking 8 bit spin ball. I actually think it does the job if you wanted a Sonic Spinball on the go.

I really really dislike playing the 8 bit Sonics and it's a shame, I didn't want to feel this way, they're unique and special entries in the series. Main problem is the stiff controls, they're nowhere near as fluid to play as the Genesis games. And they're just plain harder than the average Sonic game from my experience. And not in a fun way. Like I enjoy Sonic Unleashed, and that's a hard Sonic game, I love levels like Jungle Joyride or Eggmanland. But 8 bit Sonic rubs me the wrong way in how it plays. Except maybe Sonic Chaos which is pretty piss easy unless you're going for the emeralds. Haven't played the Tails games or either Drift tho.

Sega entered the console market a little earlier with the release of the SG-1000 on the same day as the famicom in fact. I only know this because of jeremy parishes videos that look at the releases of games for a console in chronological order. Honestly cant remember too many notable games besides some that were impressive graphically for the time, It's more of a foot note, but figured it was worth mentioning.

Watching your Advance 3 review and agreeing with someone having an open mind about games trying to be different was really nice, so hearing you bash Labyrinth like was really disappointing. It seems like you did the game reviewer thing of taking the story too seriously and "playing" the game for five minutes before writing it off as awful. If you actually took some time to get into it and learn how it's played, then you'd understand how it is not a bad game at all. Sadly, it was given the Sonic coat of paint, which inmediately gave it a bad reputation from everyone. But if you go in without the "Sonic slow, game bad" mentality, you'll find something MUCH more valuable.
