The car produces 150W on a sunny day when all panels are connected. So you let the car stand in the sun for 8 hours, And you get amazing 1,2 kWh. The yield is 40 cent. @@minirock000 Why can't the car be recyclable? You talk about it like a new concept when most cars on the roads are recyclable metal boxes. These body panels are recyclable plastics is all. And why can't solar panels be installed vertically? They are called panels which should by theory allow you to put in whatever orientations you like, it's just that efficiency wouldn't be as good. Also, the moss is part of the car's interior trim, you got some green to look at while at the same time help filter your cabin air when stuck in traffic, what is not to like? The longevity of it might be an issue, but I won't discredit the designers and call them incompetent vegans just cuz they tried to put new concepts on the table.
@minirock000
2 жыл бұрын
@@tonyli2918 Since you missed it, there are solar panels on the sides, so they say. I am all too aware that cars now are recyclable so why make a point of it, because it is plastic but it isn't if they are embedded with solar panels. Also solar panels break, become defective, become less efficient over time, you just going to cut the roof off if a quarter of it doesn't work after a couple of years? Are you going to ruin the integrity of the vehicle by chopping the top off and replacing it? The cost would be immense. You also never, ever install solar panels vertically. The ones on all the horizontal surfaces are going to be inefficient enough to just run the aircon, charge devices and the stereo, maybe. Charge a ton's worth of batteries couple hours before the sun sets? forget it. You only have a couple hours anyway when it is overhead to get anything decent because the panels don't move. You need to understand how crucial it is to keep the panels pointed at the sun. That is another reason the solar roadway BS will not work. You really think, moss, one of the first lifeforms on the surface of the Earth and is still that primitive, going to be able to filter, how soon do you want fresh air in the cabin, how long are you stuck there, perhaps, I don't know my bathroom exhaust does 90 feet per minute ( if you need to convert, do so), let's say half that, 45 feet per minute? I imagine they are located near a blower vent to get any type of filtration because you need strong airflow to filter air and will have to work out some kind of deal with the moss to work extra hard for you. Also you are taking a lifeform out of it's natural environment for your own entertainment "look at something green" you said. You are a cold fucking cruel slave owning bastard. Now let's talk about where we disagree. You can absolutely discredit the designers for designing and engineering piece of shit. They should be interior designers. You want to design a car, you get qualified people to do so, not children that want flowers and shit in the dash! You get people that have industry experience, and vehicular engineering and whatever else, not surfer dudes and people that walk through the park eating weeds and think that is cool. Sono Motors have not taken over the SAAB factory. They have plans that NEVS are to produce the car in the SAAB factory, but so far not a single car has been built by them for Sono Motors. There is no production contract, Sono Motors first needs additional financing - NEVS won't sign a contract with them before Sono Motors would be able to finance development and production. NEVS are fully owned by Chinese Evergrande, who are bankrupt. A couple of generations of prototypes are needed, the current prototype is an early Alpha which just resembles the future production car. 2023 delivery is unrealistic. Any delivery is unrealistic.

Physics means this will never be practical. Unless they've found some sort of breakthrough in solar cell technology the fact of the matter is that it's simply cheaper to outright buy the electricity from the grid, at least for any reasonable estimate on the car's lifespan. And that's ignoring how long it would actually take to get any amount of usable range from the trickle of power the cells produce, or how much more expensive body panels would be to replace/service. You want to charge you car with solar? Put the panels on your roof. If the tech isn't any more convenient or cost-effective than conventional alternatives while also being plainly less eco-friendly than straight panels on a roof, then who is it even for?

All those solar panels are good in theory, but after you take into consideration not optimal positioning, the weather, conversion and transfer losses, the fact that Li-ion cells need a certain amount of Amperes before they will even charge, then you will probably only get 6 to 8 miles worth of free charge on a good day. Not to mention that all those panels, converters and all the other electronics add needless weight to an already heavy machine, you would probably be better off range and overall battery lifespan wise by taking all that additional weight out.

Right, you think they didnt take these things into account? They are talking about real world 15 mile range. Thats 5340 miled of free range a year. More than I yearly drive. So no, it would be stupid not to put the panels on. Thats why more and more car companies are doing so. @@1fadf23f Max 5 miles per day. Per very sunny day. And it is not free. The solar system is quite expensive. In winter the primitive 5kW heater eats up your years solar yield in one month. Not to be confused with the Toyota Scion. What original thinking. How long would it take the moss to process the air in the cabin? Hours? Days? It is not a filter it is a gimmick. I would wager it doesn't make it to production. Who the hell wants to keep moss growing for twenty years or more in their car? Just imagine the water that you put in there after several months, it is going to stink to high heaven because you can't put bleach in it or it will kill the moss. Or a sudden stop or fender bender and it sloshes all over your passenger with all that putrid water. Solar panels on the side? Those are an expensive, useless feature. Sorry it isn't a feature, it is poor management, no wonder the money-men left and the normal people that don't know how to invest took over. See what happens when you leave the children unsupervised?
