📚 History:
Sonogno is a historical village in the Verzasca valley, first mentioned as Sornono in 1200. It belonged to the Vicinanza of Verzasca, a medieval political entity, and shared a community and a parish with Frasco until 1843 and 1734 respectively. The main source of income was grazing, which involved seasonal movements of the cattle and the people between the high and low pastures. Many residents left the village due to economic hardship, especially after 1850. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Lauretana, dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Loreto, is a neoclassical church built in 1854, with a bell tower from 1782 and frescoes by Cherubino Pata. The church also has a wooden choir by Giuseppe Sonognini and a carved wooden Via Crucis from Ortisei. The Museum of Verzasca, opened in 1974, displays the culture and history of the valley.
