This is why marketing confuses and frustrates consumers.. if you want better connection, buy a sonos boost. If you are having connection issues, try to assess why instead of blaming the product itself.
@VidVayder
Жыл бұрын
That's a good point with the Boost. If people who rely on SonosNet get drop outs with the Era 100/300 the Boost would probably do the trick. Unfortunately that's an extra cost to upgrading though. I think for newcomers it might be more acceptable. But for people intending to upgrade from One/One SL as rear speakers, the logical step up would be the Era 300 to differentiate the experience meaningfully. Without discounts that's £950 for two 300s, £100 for stands/mounts (cheaper estimate) and an extra £99 for the Boost if drop outs are an issue 😩 I wish they had updated the One form factor to add upward firing tweeters.

That's sound advice. I couldn't help myself with the Sub Mini though I just had to have that on day one! Now that was a good release. They gave us exactly what we wanted and hoped for. The Era 100/300 giving some features and taking some features away is a bit silly.

They wouldn't make a speaker capable of playing spacial audio if there was a chance of drop outs or popping. Wifi 6 is why they didn't add sonosnet to these new speakers. Wifi 6 signals are amazingly strong making SonosNet obsolete if you have it.
@VidVayder
Жыл бұрын
I am hoping that Wifi 6 will do the trick too. But that still means people who rely on SonosNet have an additional price to pay (for a new, stronger router) to avoid drop outs. That makes the consideration of upgrading from One/One SL to Era 100 for a surround set up much less enticing imo. I don't think the experience would be different enough to justify paying for two new 100s and a new router. It would make more sense to jump to the 300, but that means a bump up of £450 per speaker, a new Wifi 6 router, new stands or mounts, and that's not even counting the fact that a lot of us One owners might not even have the space for the 300 form factor 😩 Ideally, I would have loved an upgrade to the Ones. Just the same form factor that fits into our existing stands, but with an addition of upward firing speakers. Obviously these new speakers are not for people in my situation though! Which is fine... but I do love my Sonos gear so hopefully in a few years they design something I can get on board with.

@@VidVayder I agree with you that it makes more sense to jump to the 300, even though that means a huge jump in price as well, but if I want the full experience of spacial audio, and dolby atmos then I might as well bite the bullet... My home wi-fi was severely affected when I added Sonos until I connected my Arc into my router. Era 300 will have to be a very good performing speaker to replace by two Five rear surrounds for my Arc+two Gen 3 sub in main TV room. Any chance Sonos is working on an Era 500 down the road?
@VidVayder
Жыл бұрын
You're not messing around when it comes to Sonos! I personally don't think they will do an Era 500, unless they want to cannibalise sales of the 300. The difference would have to be huge and not just 'better sound' for consumers to be interested in a 500. Some believe they didn't add upfiring tweeters in the Era 100 so that consumers had a reason to get the 300. If a hypothetical 500 were to be made, it can't just be a 300 with more power.

@@renardfields2975 I replaced my Nakamichi 7.2.4 with the Sonos Arc/dual sub/Fives. I was limited on placement with the Nakamichi because the surrounds were wired to the subs. I'm able to move the Fives 9-12 feet behind the sofa on speaker stands in our great room. The Sonos subs on either side of the Arc near the wall mounted TV 17 feet from the same sofa. Sonos sounds way more immersive and balanced compared to my old system (Nakamichi rear surrounds and subs were 1 foot from sofa). I went with the Fives instead of the One SLs because of the distance behind the sofa. I just made an assumption the One SLs wouldn't be loud/immersive enough being set that far back. Purchased everything before I knew the release date of the Era 300 earlier this year. The Era 300 would probably work just as well as the Fives. The Era 300 seem like they would need distance and clearance on all sides to Atmos or spatial audio (can't put the Era 300 in a bookcase or ceiling like the Fives). I mostly watch cable TV or stream shows/movies. No Blu-ray DVDs and no spatial audio. Not a lot of movies in Atmos format from most streaming services. Not sure how good the Fives -vs- Era 300 are for non-Atmos sources. I will stick with the Fives until the majority of music/movies are available in the Atmos format.

If it doesn't support sonosnet then why can you buy a multi adapter to connect a network cable to usb c on the back of the speakers. Also if you are using the speakers for surround and your main systems are already on sonosnet there will be no difference since they will connect via the main soundbars network. Lastly you act like this is something new Sonos roam and sonos move also don't connect to sonosnet and they also can't be used in a home theater set-up as surrounds.

Hey there, as they're not out yet it's hard to determine everything, but I'll try to address your points: 1. Ethernet isn't just for the SonosNet mesh feature, some people prefer wiring up their devices over using Wi-Fi as ethernet is more reliable. The option is there for those users. 2. I was of the impression that all devices need to be compatible with SonosNet to enter the mesh network. If I'm wrong, thanks for correcting me. I wonder why the website lists it as incompatible if they do work with SonosNet? 3. I did not intend to act like this is a new thing. I am aware that Roam and Move are not compatible and if you go on Reddit, some users will tell you they have issues with Roam and Move dropping out. Maybe because they don't work with SonosNet. I'm a fan of Sonos products and I sincerely hope that this will not be an issue. But for users like myself and some others who need SonosNet, it would be a pointless upgrade as the dropping/popping makes them unusable for cinema surround. Before I started using SonosNet I couldn't go a minute without issues. After applying SonosNet my setup has been perfect. Hope that addresses your questions and gives you a better perspective on why I think users like myself need to consider carefully and wait for reviews before rushing out to pre order these.

Speaking of Apple, it does seem more and more like they're taking their business model. Taking away features to force consumers into uograding their ecosystem (I don't want to get a WiFi 6 router, and don't even know if WiFi 6 will fix the dropping issues) and intentionally leaving out features to make the higher end model more enticing. If they had kept the One models as is and added upward tweeters they'd be flying off shelves. To make the 100 work for my setup right now I would need a new router and new speaker stands!
