Saddam with Christians is something id never heard. Really interesting.
@--AE--
2 ай бұрын
Yep, the Deputy Prime Minister was a Christian named Tariq Aziz. Essentially the 2nd highest dude in Iraq. He was a Nationalist and banned Socialist parties that had Communist/Marxist ideologies. Supposedly guilty of war crimes by, most likely, Bush cronies propped up in the Iraqi government/courts. Maybe he was a really bad man, maybe he wasn’t.

Saddam used many Iraqi Christians for government posts, especially ones close to him only ones he can trust
@WordToMomsYo
2 ай бұрын
I was about to post about Tariq Aziz myself... He was one of Saddam's most trusted men, if not indeed his right hand man. And yes, an Iraqi Christian. It should surprise no one that the dictator Saddam would display Machiavellian tendencies... He was nothing if not a ruthless autocrat who constantly kept his eye out for potential threats to his power, any and all opportunities to seize upon and usurp any rival movements or individuals, or summarily destroy them if they failed to cede or otherwise fall in line. This would include maintaining a strategically structured leadership hierarchy surrounding him, the innermost, closest advisors and cabinet often belonging to key minority religious communities or tribes, which afforded Saddam leverage among key populations across the nation. In exchange for their allegiance, he would offer protection, positions in governance at the local or federal level, subsidized access to valuable commodities such as food, petroleum products, water, electricity, etc, or prime opportunities for development or other economic or political openings otherwise not available to those outside of this patronage network.

@greatdane3343

Is he not talking about using quiet deadly, instead of going loud?
@WordToMomsYo
2 ай бұрын
In an indirect way, he's describing the Army unit of which he was an active component and among it's leadership. He is known for asserting that this unit was *the most professional* raid/strike force on the planet, and that this professionalism not only refers to being able to execute the most dangerous, complex and sensitive missions, often within the most challenging of restraints, be they strict time limitations, political sensitivities, the need to operate without communication with higher echelons of authority, which requires that each operator be able to execute and make decisions based on their own knowledge and intellect, often with national or global repercussions, eyc. That professionalism also necessarily connotes the wisdom and capacity to *restrain* one's self from dispensing violence when it is not strictly necessary. Seasoned operators are well-equipped and trained to conduct raids upon houses, compounds, buses and trains, or any number of other structures... But even among the most experienced and talented operators, you might not necessarily find many individuals who possess the capacity to *not* pull the trigger, even if the apparent circumstances might make doing so seem like the appropriate action to take for the vast majority of people. That sort of capacity, among others, is one of the sorts of traits and capacities that this Army unit values and looks for while performing their selection and assessment processes. Yes, once you breach the door, be willing and prepared to kill everyone in sight... However, it is preferable to avoid doing so, and to seek alternative solutions to the tasks at hand, one individual at a time, until this particular house or structure has been cleared and inspected and the team is ready to move on to the next structure.

I was in Iraq in 2005, FOB Falcon. My jaw dropped when I heard you say you held a family hostage. We did the same thing, but I’m so afraid to tell anyone. I guess I just did. It was so fucking crazy how we moved about in the city. We literally just shot our way through shit. I watched the Iraqi police throw a dude off a two story building, swear to god, then into the back of an IP truck, then who the fuck knows from there. You can assume he was tortured for info since he was involved. He was video taping a VBIED detonation from across the street, as we were the QRF that responded. And I was just an activated National Guard guy, 11BC21P, not a high speed, low drag Special Forces like you. And, when we went over the burm into Iraq from Kuwait in Jan ‘05’, the first US FOB we came across had, “I’m Rick James Bitch” spray painted on the Hesco bags as you wound through the serpentine razor wire. That shit was off the shizzy!!!!
