MORE info regarding the Neewer grip. I too have been getting the incompatible battery message. The problem with the grip is that the contacts between the dummy batter in the body that protrudes to the contacts in the grip, don't make good contact. I think I have solved this by taking a straight pin or the tip of an Xacto knife blade and wedging it behind the metal contacts on the grip and bending them into the groove area where the other contacts touch them. Essentially you are bending them into the groove so they will be pushed hard against the other contacts. I also did this on the battery cartridge that goes inside the grip, just for good measure. Two days later, no problem, knock on my wood head.

It has it's headaches but it's a fifth of the price of a Sony grip. The battery issue is solved when clicked in the right spot. The LCD issue is quickly solved by cutting a bit of the grip. Airplane mode on will save battery life.

Will this grip work for Sony NEX7 , NEX6??

I have the grip and get the intermittent message that the batteries are incompatible. I turn the camera off, pull the batteries out, re-seat them and start it up again. Nine-times out of ten that does the trick. But I still can't get the remote control (that is labeled "For Canon") to work, although the importer says it is compatible. Does anyone have any luck using their remote controller? If so, can you please leave a detailed description of settings? I keep Airplane mode on most of the time because the camera's WiFi and NFC controls would constantly be draining the batteries looking for networks to join.

I'd say this is a good start, but unfortunately not enough to be useful since it's still easy enough to pocket a second battery. The one thing that would make it a good product is if it allow the use of AA/AAA batteries.

Bought one and found that it's a waste of my money. when attached it interferes with the LCD screen from moving, because of the plastic lip along the edge of the grip. Also the battery holder does not make good enough contact inside the grip to energize the camera, I had to put a piece of between the grip door and the holder to get it to make contact with the inside contacts. same with the dummy battery that fits into the camera, it did not make good contact and I had to shim that. Not worth it.

I bought this grip and I'm getting an error message on the camera telling me: "Incompatible battery. Use correct model". This happens intermittently. Both my batteries are Sony. The grip does NOT interfere with the LCD screen on my camera.

Hi Harry, though I haven't bought it yet, but I did notice in on of the review, can't remember who. He had the same problem as you and he figured out that it happens due to the loose power connection from battery grip to the camera and to fix that you got to tighten the grip screw bit hard.
@HarryCartner

Junaid Syed I tried this grip on another A6000 and got the same error message. So, 2 cameras, same issue. I returned it. It's obviously defective.

Yeah sounds like it, very easy to get some defective ones or it might start showing this problem even non defective ones after some use. Due to the cheap build ! Did you find any alternative grip or any other solution to this Harry?

I was about to box it and send it back for a refund, but just gave it one last shot before sending it off and it worked. It's all about how you tighten the grip on the body for a better connection. Also make sure you hear a click sound once you install the batteries in the battery holder. It works now and I'm a happy camper.

Personally I have always liked to have a vertical grip. Since I do shoot in portrait style pretty often, it helps me to keep everything straight. Without twisting my wrist. But is this the battery grip? No, it's not. But this does the job. I am satisfy with it, until someone else can make a better one. :)

I don't think I'll need it. Just managed to get rid of big camera (DSLR) and this one will bring me back one step. It is strange that Sony didn't find better solution for vertical shooting? Wire on the bottom of camera when I hold it vertical? My left hand should be there. This product is made by Sony?

It does change the weight considerably when attached. I have it on my A6000 with a Sony 10-18mm lens and it add's approximately 8 oz to the weight of the camera bringing it to about 2.2 lbs. And no, it isn't made by Sony, the grip was made by Neewer. Also, the top of the battery grip (where the grip contacts with the bottom of the camera body), gets in the way of the LCD panel. To resolve this problem, open the LCD panel before attaching the battery grip. Also, my Arca swiss plate does not completely go all the way in, making it loose. I suspect that can be alleviated with the use of a washer or two.
@ObelixCMM

Dragan Kujundzic Dragane, Sony didn't design this camera to be used with battery grip, that's why Neewer had to use cable. Actually this is A7 grip that Neewer retrofitted for A6000, that's why is so big. And there is an interference between LCD screen and the grip at the bottom right corner of the screen. he said OVERALL which means do TWO batteries used together give longer running times then 2 batteries used one after the other
Odd, if they don't recommend you charging while the batteries are in and attached to the camera then they shouldn't have put that USB charging plug in then. You know everyone's gonna do it.

So you buy a nice little camera, and mount a brick to it? What would be wrong with carrying two extra batteries? I do not really see the advantage of this thing. Sorry to say.
@DevonWayne

Mesdriver People who do timelapse photography (photos over a 1 hour, 5 hour period) require very extensive battery lengths. A single battery won't last over an hour of continious photos required in timelapse photography. Timelapse is a very broad field. However, for portraits, just take off the grip. There is also a thing called "posturing." When you're a wedding photographer, regardless of how good the camera is (I love it) it's tiny. People won't take you (as) serious. The grip helps people assume you're "definitely" a pro. Posturing...
@Mesdriver
9 жыл бұрын
I can understand the timelaps argument. Maybe some people would do this, but I know of very lttle. I tried it once with my NEX-7, but we have lots of light pollution over here, so that did not work out. I guess the postering thing is something that will pass by, as people get use to the new "non mirror" technology. I have several chargers: Two in my house, one in my car, and and one with an adaptor for traveling. Four batteries, on in the camera, one in my pocket, and always two in the The chargers in my house and the one in the car are always powered up. Bit overdone I know, but I also have the NEX-5 as a "fun item". Thanks for the input.

This grip doesn't event fit the camera body. The bit on the side is hanging over the edge of the camera. It's almost like this grip was made for another camera and they just modified the top plate of the grip to make it fit. Ugly. Probably cheap and plasticky as well.
@BlueBomberTurbo
9 жыл бұрын
Exactly what they did. Made for the A7. They just modified the mounting area to meet up with the A6000. That's also why you need the USB cable for the shutter button. The A6000 was never built to use a vertical grip, so it doesn't have the extra pins in the battery compartment to use any other buttons or dials.
