@kyletaggart
2 жыл бұрын
$500 for either WITH that lens is a STEAL! awesome deal. I'll tell what I tell everyone, the M50 is a little more beginner friendly, the a6000 has more lenses down the line. Although the M50 has gotten more lenses (like the sigma being made for it now). They are different bodies, have diff features, but both would do just fine for portraits with the sigma 56mm.
@kevintan242

@@kyletaggart @hikyletaggart Thanks for the information😄 but i think i'm not gonna buy any more lenses after this, since a lot of other youtubers who have multiple lenses like the complete sigma trio, always end up using the sigma 56mm as their main lens. And if i would invest in a 2nd lens it would probably be the sigma 30mm f1.4 since the 56mm needs some distance to shoot from. How's the low light performance? Ik they both are good with the f1.4 but for shooting indoors and in other low light situations, would one of them be better then the other you think? I love those shots where you can freeze the action and just have lots of beautifull bokeh in the background. Which one would you go for if you were in the same situation as me?
@kyletaggart
2 жыл бұрын
I’d say it’s about even for low light with both cameras. It’s really down to the body, screen, etc. flip screen / touch screen M50. A6000 has the tilt screen, and the E mount flexibility. If you’re just gonna stick with one lens for a long while, I’d suggest the M50.
@kevintan242

@@kyletaggart I tought the sony was better for low light situations but i might have heard that in another review about the sony a6100 with its newer sensor. I think you should've mentioned the prices for the lenses. Sonys e-Mount lenses are quite expensive, and there arent many options when it comes to third party manufacturers. Also its a lot harder to adapt the e-Mount to other lenses, as autofocus is often not supported if you do. With the m50 you can adapt quite easily to the EF mount, while maintaining autofocus. There are also third party adapters which are a lot cheaper than the one you showed in your video. Thanks for the comparison though, great vid!

A6000 ftw bc I just got mines a few months ago. I love it! I choose the 6k bc of the overall quality, film mode, Grip, sound of the shutter, The price alone for what you get is incredible. My only issue was the tilt up screen but even then I can always buy a monitor if I feel it’s necessary. I’ve heard complaints about the battery life.. people whom wake up and the camera would be dead. Just take the battery out b4 slp BOOM problem solved. I have 2 extras I popped right in when 1 dies. I never had a problem with overheating but like once but I feel it was bc I was recording so much over the course of like 45 mins- 1 hr. All in all if you’re looking to take your photography and videographer serious get the 6k and a good sigma lens! You’ll be more than impressed! Looking to just start a KZitem channel and nothing more Go with the canon m50. Hope this help.

For any of those you’ll need an adapter. So if you wanna go that route think about the added cost, weight, size. Just a heads up. As for a native lens the Canon 11-22 EF-M would be a a good lens, however I haven’t used it myself. Not sure how much better it is than the kit lens. It has bad battery life when it comes to an event that lasts all day, it doesn’t have two card slots so if it fails you’ve lost everything, it lacks dedicated dials for all settings that need to change quickly, and you can’t move an individual focus point with a joystick or a more efficient way. Of course it can and does produce amazing professional looking images, and me and my gf do use it for paid work, but it’s not s professional camera body, that’s all. It’s much better suited to be a second shooter or b cam than a primary use for a professional job. Still, an amazing camera, and I encourage people to use it for paid work, but to just be careful and be aware of what I mentioned above. 👍🏻

Honestly the kit lens is a nice everyday lens, or the 22mm f2. I LOVE the 22mm f2 and got mine refurbished on amazon for like $180. F2 is great, the focal range is wider than say a 32mm, and it’s SUPER SMALL. (Pancake lens)

I shoot wide angle landscapes. I did a lot of research and I also included M4/3 cameras as well. My budget in Australia is about $700. 1. The Canon 16mm M50 lens available but is the widest you can get so far and thats equivalent to 24mm. I really want to go a bit wider. 2. The a6000 has a 12mm lens available that gets me 18-20mm. And its relatively affordable. The menu system is a pig. 3. The M4/3 lenses that go to 12mm or less are expensive but there are lots of 3rd party manual lenses available to get me the 20mm fov. So, what am I to do? Nothing for six months. I am going to buy a used a6100 body when the prices come down. Then select a used lens as well.

The M50 has an 11-22 I believe as well. Also the Sigma 16mm is a phenomenal lens for both the M50 and Sony a6k line. Also I know for Sony (not sure for Canon) there is the Rokinon 12mm f2 that a lot of Astro ppl love. There are wider but then you’re getting into the fisheye lenses. Also if you care about crop factor, the M50 is a 1.6x crop, the a6k line is a 1.5x crop, and the M4/3 (any of them) are 2x crop. I’ve done a video on the Sigma 16mm f1.4 for the a6000 if you’re curious about it. Thanks for checking my videos out! 🙌🏻

Same as Chris (below). These two are at the top of my list. I don't video (except my golf swing), no vlogging. I am leaning toward the a6000, but your video places the M50's color above that of the a6000. How much different are they in that regard? (Nature walks, lakes/ocean shots, mountains, etc.) Also, regarding lenses for A6000: I watched your video on the Viltrox 23mm f1.4. Sounds great for my purposes (travel/walk around/street and casual landscape). I am also attracted by the Tamron 24mm f2.8. The advantage of that one is weight and length. Of course the Viltrox is faster at f1.4. That could make a difference in low light. Bokeh Is not so much a big deal to me. How much difference (in ISO?) is that aperture difference in low light? I am thinking of inside churches, museums, historical buildings etc., rather that clubs. Great job, I'll watch for more of your videos. Thanks. Joe
@kyletaggart
3 жыл бұрын
The aperture difference is big from 1.4 to 2.8. However there is vingetting down at f1.4 on the Viltrox 23mm. Can’t speak to the Tamron as I haven’t used it, it could also have vingetting. As for the colors, the M50’s are just purely better. I shoot in standard profiles, and although I do edit in RAW, canons colors are so pleasing I sometimes shoot in jpg with the M50. I also only used the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 on my a6100, which has better color than the a6000, but probably not as good color as the M50. If you don’t want to edit, or that’s simply not your thing yet, the M50 will be a better fit. Also, Viltrox now offers the 23mm f1.4 for Canon EF-M. So that’s exciting. Both Viltrox and Sigma have made their lenses available on both the Sony APSC cameras and Canon EF-M cameras. Still, Sony wins in lens selection with no adapter, but I just wanted to point out in the past couple years more lenses have become available for EF-M. And just to loop back on the color thing, you can edit any cameras colors to your preference, I shoot RAW probably 90% of the time and enjoy editing, just wanted to point out that the M50 is more pleasing if you don’t care for editing. ✌🏻 here is an affiliate link for the Viltrox for EF-M. It may only come in silver - geni.us/Viltrox23mmCanon

Do you think switching to the M50 could be comparable? My focus is photography. I want to go hiking and shoot landscape, macro and everything in between. I have also shot a wedding, sports and portraits. I want to keep the cost under $800. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. 😊
@kyletaggart
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! So, the M50 is a different mount. The 77D is Canon EF-S and the M50 is an EF-M. So to use the lenses you have you'd need an adapter. I love the M50, checkout photos from it on my instagram (I tag my photos with #canonM50) - @hikyletaggart. The M50 may be similar quality to the 77D. I'm not an expert on the 77D, but the M50 has advantages over a tradition DSLR. Mirrorless cameras have an EVF - electronic viewfinder, which unlike an optical viewfinder (on a 77D) you can see your settings change in the viewfinder as you change them. The M50 is MUCH smaller and lighter than the 77D, but when you put an adapter on it and an EF-S lens it adds to the bulk on the smaller camera. If you find yourself not taking as many photos as you'd like because the 77D is too big and heavy, I suggest you go take a look at an M50 in person. It's tiny, and I love it a lot for that reason. I also love the lenses that are made for the M50 (EF-M lenses). Hope this helps a little bit!

One of my client co's recently loaned me one of their Sony a6000 just to see how it performs, and while it's a decent camera, I much prefer my M50 for shooting real estate. Coupling the Canon M50 and Laowa 9mm f2.8 lens has proven to be a real estate powerhouse. And honestly I don't need any other lens or camera body for that matter. This combo allows me to capture excellent 23.1mp HDR photos, 1080p and even 4k video now looks professional because of the amazing wide angle. And the M50 and Laowa 9mm are super lightweight, making a full day of shooting a breeze. When mounted on the Weebil S gimbal, it's a lot of fun, no more heavy, bulky shooting days! Even with the aps-c the 9mm equates to a 13.5mm full frame, plenty wide for real estate. And a 50mm is unnecessary for those detail shots since the Laowa 9mm is a manual, just rack your focus on your subject, and you get excellent detail and dof. No need wasting time swapping lenses.

You can use the screen as a digital “joystick” so portraits you can always nail the eye. The M50 is a ton of fun, but like I point out it’s limited in lenses (native lenses). I love my M50, but if you don’t want to mess with an adapter, and want automatic eye AF, the Sony a6100 is a phenomenal option. Either way, you’ll find the features of either the M50 or the 6100 to allow you to be more creative I think. Of course, your photos can only get so much better by the gear, the rest is the person taking the photo. You’re not going to see a huge change in megapixels, but the feature set will enable you much more imo.

@@kyletaggart now I'm curious. Dualpixel auto focus of m50 or the autofocus of a6000? Hmm haha

So for a newbie looking to purchase, hoping to lead a way to professional images and also capturing a lot of sporting images, which would be more suggested? Video isnt a big concern of mine.

A6000 just has more options. But as a way into pro I’d suggest the a6100. It’s on sale right now

Thank for this amazing video in 2019. Super helpful. I've been contemplating between a6000/a5100/m50. I see that the out of camera jpegs are better in m50, but I'm a looking for a pocketable camera. Do you think I'll lose the image quality with the a5100, compared to a6000 and m50? I don't plan on doing many 4k videos by the way!

I don’t think so, it has the same sensor as the a6000 I believe! No viewfinder though.

Well, if you had vlog or taken selfies with the back camera of your phone, you can frame yourself on a "flippyless" screen camera after some practice. I own an a6000 BTW, but I'm intrigued by the M50...

Yeah I’ve vlogged extensively with the a6000, and face detection always worked, it’s the framing that may be off sometimes. The M50 is a beast, and the touch screen is great. Better EVF/back screen resolution, pinch and zoom on image review, also can move an individual focus point via the screen while looking at the EVF. These are newer features though, that just weren’t around when the a6000 came out. If Sony adds these in the future, Canon may be in serious trouble. A6000 is still the value beast!
