Sony AX700 and Z90 PP10 BT2020
WB Testing On Various Colour Cards
Using Keldan spectrum filter 1.5B -1.5f/stops
and 3.5B -3.5 f/stops
I found that the WB should always be done at the centre of the lens
I used:
• A translucent white lens cap - part zoomed in and full zoom to fill the frame
• Grey card - part zoomed in and full zoom to fill the frame
• Grey card with Red square - part zoomed in and full zoom to fill the frame
• White card - part zoomed in and full zoom to fill the frame
• White card with Red square - part zoomed in and full zoom to fill the frame
• Purple Clam, at some WB, this purple produced some really great WB results.
The reason I put a red square on the WB card…

Next, we moved on to looking for a
correction for the red hue when using One Push white balance mode. We needed a way to
balance the amount of red the AX100 was adding to bring the white balance back to a more
acceptable level. We found this can be achieved by introducing red into the white balance
equation (Figure 7). Whether you choose to use a slate, a white pair of fins, the sand or any
other white/grey surface to perform your white balance, adding some red to the scene will
help dramatically in correcting this issue. I found adding red stickers to my white balance
slate the easiest (Figure 8)
White balancing the AX100 using the one-push white balance mode, with
the Gates white slate and red stickers applied, at a depth of 18 metres in blue
water resulted in a very pleasing white balance.
The Keldan spectrum filter 1.5B did well on the WB colour
However, the Keldan Spectrum filter 3.5B did better on the WB and colour @ 10/12m, Please remember the 3.5B is -3.5 f/stops, if you need the light go for the 1.5B which is -1.5 f/stops. Also, bear in mind the different colour slates/cap I use this will give you different WB colour for the depth. Choose what is the best WB colour for your depth
No matter what I did, for WB, there was always a Green or pink hue. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know, there must be a way of adjusting the hue in the camera colour spectrum?
