I own a number of Sony camcorders and really appreciate and enjoy the knowledge, expertise and effort you put forth in repairing these units. You are the master and go to guy for these repairs.

Thank you! This was the exact problem I had with my TRV730. My camcorder was working fine until I put in a bad cassette where the tape somehow was tangled by another camcorder - I didn't notice the tape was tangled when loading it, but got an error code when trying to play the tape in the TRV730. I quickly ejected the tape, and manually wound the cassette so the tape was aligned again. Afterwards, any tape I loaded into my TRV730 had this same grinding noise during playback. I ejected the tapes and noticed the cassette lids were slightly worn in the middle - apparently from rubbing against the drum head. I used a small pair of pliers to ever so slightly pull up on the lid lifter mechanism as shown in your video and now everything is back in order. Next I'll need to clean out the debris from the plastic tape lid shards... Thank you again!

Interesting and brings back memories of vhs tape lid release not pushing hard enough causing total deck timing misalignment (Phillips Charley deck and Panasonic g mech) at least this wasn’t destructive.

Hi! I am your subscriber. I like what you do. I love Sony cameras. I recently purchased a DCR-TRV460. But during transportation, apparently something happened and now in the mode -the camera on the screen has some kind of dark green glow and nothing else. This is similar to the well-known problem of CCD sensors. For repairs, I need to see how the lens unit is arranged before I start disassembling it. Do you have a video or a link to information where I can see how the lens unit works?

That's what I was thinking. The cassette lid is rubbing against the dead drum and makes grinding noise.

It wasn't the lid it was the cover that enclosed the tape when the lid is closed.

@@12voltvids I have a trv130 it did have to go in for repair cause the button moduel went crazy but the tape mechism never failed me and I bet they didn't even have to repplace the whole moduel and it was just the edge connectors like you so often show. When play was pressed it would record instead or give me an error code etc i try to use it once a month so it does not seize up.

@@stpworld i have had the membrane keypad go bad. My gvd800 failed and was replaced and is bad again. Press Rew and it goes into record and wipes recording unless the record lockout tab is flipped. I have to use the remote to control it as key switch is made of unobtaonium.

This channel is great! I have a CCD-TRV65 and I’ve been having an issue with the zoom. The speed of the zoom is very slow, and it takes a couple of minutes to travel from W to T. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks!

Well that was a million in one chance. Did you bend the mechanism slightly more than needed so even if it was gripped in the wrong place it was still silent?. Bloody music problems :-(

How do you think that happened? Forcing a tape in the camera?
@12voltvids
Жыл бұрын
Could have been forced in, or a damaged tape. It was a metal part that was bent. It is pretty thin metal mind you. I can't see the tension of the spring on the cassette causing it. All I know is i didn't cause it last time i was on this one because I was working on the power switch located on the cabinet.

Hey Dave I've got a Canon VM-E1 8mm camcorder, it's the very first rare one from 1985 so it has all though hole capacitors and none of the SMD garbage. The VTR section on mine doesn't work, you can fast forward and fast rewind but when you go into play it automatically stops and won't play. What do you think the problem is? I might consider sending it to you for repair.

@@12voltvids Its from 1985, first generation, and I believe it has Sony parts in it so I think it should be on par with your CCD-V110. No surface mount components and it's pretty easy to open up. Not like the later jam packed crap they produced. Just not sure what the fault is. I have schematics and block diagrams for the boards but that's it. I'm going to say that maybe the servo/system control circuit isn't getting the drum PG signal. I'm going to start working on it once I get my Panasonic PV-200D running.
