1. Gordon you are a machine pumping out all that quality content on such short notice. 2. Wonder what the coma performance is for this little guy. As this screams long hikes and astrophotography. It won't break your back and it can handle some dust. Really nice addition to Sony E-mount users.

this is my humble request to all content creators using latest sony mirrorless cameras to disable the EYE PRIORITY in autofocus feature of their cameras at least in video mode. the EYE DETECT feature undoubtedly gives perception of better looking video but because sony's EYE AUTOFOCUS is so powerful and that coupled with modern lenses at wider aperture results in a video that has a very small portion of the screen that is highly in focus. this obviously looks impressive f0r stlls but when it comes t0 vide0, and especially when the subject is m0vng, it bec0mes strainful on eyes of the viewer to watch.

@Photogopinion Until a few days ago I don't think it was possible for camera shops to order cameras like the A6400. There was some confusion/rumors related to production problems and what it meant for APS-C Sony. Now that they announced lenses, we should see a lot more incoming (I'd say).

Hi Gordon, great review. Since you asked, can you please compare this lens against some or all of the following lenses: The Sony 15 mm F1.4, Samyang/Rokinon 12 mm F2, Sigma 16 mm F1.4, the new Viltrox 13 mm F1.4 and the Laowa 9 mm F2.8. Especially curious on how this lens compares to the others for astrophotography. Many thanks! :)

I prefer the 11mm f1.8 So that's what I bought. But I'd like an equally bright 24mm equivalent, that's not as massive as the Sigma... Or the Sony's 16mm pancake re-engineered for better quality. The original old one pretty much sucks.

Weeeeeell, it's also worth trying just with active steady shot alone, then cropping later if necessary. I'd like to try this. Or use catalyst with a big crop.

Hi there, Thanks for great video and information you have provided us as usual, I bought this lens (brand new) and when I use it on Sony ZV E10 it keeps focus changing from my face and background (I use ND filter and lowest aperture), it happens even when I use it with zhiyun crane 3 and sit down on a chair in park , is it something wrong with the lens or with my camera settings you think? What is the best 23/24 mm apsc lens giving us a 35mm equivalent of 35mm? Seems like it's a hole in the Sony lens line up. I'm tempted to go with the samyang 24mm for full frame however I would like a small sized apsc with a aperture ring.
@cameralabs
Жыл бұрын
Most of the 23s and 24s I've seen for APSC are longer than you might like, and none I've tested have aperture rings. The two main contenders for me are the new Sigma 23 1.4 and the older Sony 24 1.8, and as luck would have it I compared them here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/0GOMzXeEbYadjW0 // OR go for a full-frame Sigma 24mm which does have an aperture ring and is fairly squat: kzitem.info/news/bejne/wpWpzZqngJOid4Y

@@cameralabs if it's 11mm on apsc how much on full frame
@cameralabs
2 жыл бұрын
@@brawmedia it's 11mm on everything BUT the imaging circle is only designed for the APSC sensors, which means it'll get very dark beyond this. I haven't tested it uncropped on full-frame yet, but it may deliver a slightly bigger area than APSC, or of course you could make a square crop from it instead of a rectangle. Interestingly you may be able to use that spare poor quality border to deliver some digital stabilisation - maybe - and still end up with a super wide view. I'm going to test that.

Thank you very much dear Gordon, thanks to Sony for releasing these lenses. I have been waiting for such an ultra wide lense with a very wide aperture. But I have only Sony A6000, the very first version of cameras from this lineup, without IBIS, and I have shaky hands...my interest is mostly in stills photography, indoors and also outdoor landscapes, sityscapes, etc. The only option is to sacrifice the aperture and taking the hugely overpriced stabilized 10-18 from 2013, or taking this lense but with a danger of somewhat blurred images...

I'm in the same boat, although 11mm is so wide, you may be able to handhold or post stabilise if you're careful

@@cameralabs Thank you again Gordon. I really don't understand why Sony doesn't include OSS in the new PZ 10-20 F4. Ok, the fast primes its maybe ok not to include it,but I think zoom lense is really need this, especially for video work. Not everyone has their latest 1400$ A6600 camera, or a gimbal. @cameralabs
9 ай бұрын
Well it's designed to be 16.5mm on any camera you put it on, as it's designed for APSC sensor area, whether that's using ALL of an APSC sensor or a cropped mode of a full-frame body. You can tell a full frame camera to record the full-frame, so you'd be treating it as 11mm, but obviously the imaging ciricle won't cover it. BUT it does open some interesting possibilities for cropping through stabilisation as I demo in another of my videos about this lens.

Putting the OSS into a fast prime lens would make it very large and heavy. So traditionally, fast primes don’t come with OSS.
