F stop is the ratio of the focal length to the aperture, it has nothing to do with sensor size. A crop sensor will give a narrower field of view for a particular lens, and will receive less light (and hence require a higher gain setting for a particular exposure) than a FF frame sensor, but the properties such as depth of field will be exactly the same. Depth of field does NOT change just because your sensor size has changed. Visually, it will look like you cropped in on the subject, but pixel for pixel everything else will be exactly the same. The 15mm F1.4 lens is a 15mm F1.4 lens irrespective of whether it is attached to a crop sensor or full frame sensor camera. An APS-C lens is smaller because the glass elements do not have to produce as big an image on the sensor but beyond that the optical qualities remain the same.

They receive the same light (brightness). Focal length and f. Stop math is different. But a 1,4 aps-c and a 1,4 full frame have the same brightness on screen (receive the ‘same’ light). Clearly, a full frame receives ‘more’ light and is better for nighttime shooting etc. I know you know. But some don’t.
@WEHAVETHISDREAM

Full frame is better for low light cause of many reasons. But the FX30 is one of the best cameras that Sony has produced. It does not have the same sensor as the FX3. Buuut, the dual native iso (800 - 2500) covers most situations you’ll ever come across. And bit of denoise, you’ll do it either way, in post - aps-c or full frame. So… Don’t matter.

Why does my Sony 15mm 1.4 lens make a rattle or clonk if I shake it, Is there a problem with my lens?
@GeekyNerdyTechy

It’s probably just the autofocus motors moving around. I noticed the same thing with most of their lenses. It’s fine.

So FX30 or S52? Which one fits your workflow best?
@GeekyNerdyTechy
Жыл бұрын
The Lumix S5II is my favorite camera right now. I actually ended up getting two of them and moving some old gear off. The FX30 was a cheaper way for me to complete my Sony multi-camera setup for other projects so I didn't have a hodge-podge of different color science. They are both great in their own way. The Lumix gear has been my favorite for years but I love using all kinds of gear to see how it works out.

Well basically EVERYTHING you said and why you purchased that lens, are the same reasons I got it for my self when I preorder my FX30 at launch, it’s the best lens for my needs as well, I wanted the best feature rich wide prime from Sony with the best in class autofocus, and this is it, not too wide, it’s just wide enough, fantastic lens, I’ve had it for months now and have 0 regrets, great video as always Shane 👌🏻

Awesome, Andy. Thanks for the affirmation on this. It's a great little lens and it's a great match for the FX30 body. It's portable and enjoyable to use. Did you ever see it hunt a bit too much with the AF speed or sensitivity up too far? I found 4 and 4 to be about the sweet spot.

@@GeekyNerdyTechy my pleasure ! And to answer your question, actually no I haven’t seen it hunt actually, like you said at arms length is the best distance and that’s about how I use it, but I’ll test it out further and see the results.

How about lowlight
@AndyLSB
Жыл бұрын
@@jaymills1720 I have no issues, Full frame users have contaminated the community with their high ISO need and their "low light" king cameras like the A7SIII, FX3, FX6, the truth is that if you need to use that high of an ISO in a camera, that means you're not lighting properly or not using the proper lens, I've shot up to 4000 ISO with my FX30 with no problem, by lighting properly you can't tell if there's noise in the Image (my lights are not that powerful that's why I've use up to 4000) but still, I'm a MFT user by choice, I've had no issue, so don't worry about youtube "filmmakers" when they say that the FX30 is not a good "lowlight" camera, its ridiculous (I'm not talking about Shane here) just remember that a couple of years ago, we didn't had cameras with this good ISO performance and filmmakers and videographers managed to work with their limitations, just learn to expose and you'll be fine with whatever camera you choose, that's my advice.

The 58mm filter with a step up ring won't reduce vignetting since the slightly bigger filter doesn't make up for the added distance from the lens introduced by the step up ring. You should step up to at least 62mm, rather 67mm.

Start at F5.6 and see how you go. It really depends on what you are shooting and how close you are to the subject. If nothing is close in the foreground that's a good starting point.

I'm less than 1/4 of the way through your video and I'm frustrated. You are great on camera and editing is solid, BUT there are way too many clips of you holding the camera and lens. I am looking at this combo (or maybe a6700) and this is the perfect subject, and you are really good at explaining it, but I want images FROM the camera/lens, not OF the camera/lens. Your images of you holding this setup are so good, it makes me want to know what you are shooting on. Rant over. If it makes you feel any better, I am liking and subscribing. Now I plan to go back and watch until the end. [Update] Lot's of great video from the camera and lens. I trust what you are saying and enjoyed your video.
