@@Jason_Hermann I'm looking for the optimal settings on the Sony FX30 to eliminate motion blur when shooting moving cars on the street. Currently, setting the shutter speed to auto seems to be the only way to achieve some clarity and smoothness. However, the general rule is to set the shutter speed to double the fps. When I shoot with auto shutter speed, it often goes to 1/800 or 1/1000, which doesn't align with the rule, and there are still clarity issues with moving cars. This issue also persists when I'm stationary in a chair, moving the camera in a circular motion. Even large letters on a cereal box appear blurred. I've tried adjusting the shooting mode to Flexible Exposure Mode and even manual mode. I've set the focus to Continuous AF and also experimented with manual focus. Additionally, I've tested different auto focus transition speeds, such as 5, and AF shift sensitivity settings, ranging from 5 to 1. I've also played with focus area settings, trying both wide and spot focus. Despite these efforts, I haven't been able to eliminate motion blur or the slight shaking of objects. It's as if the letters aren't entirely clear when I'm shooting. Can you please advise me on the settings I need to adjust to resolve this issue with the Sony FX30 camera? Thanks in advance

To illuminate motion blur you will need to increase the shutter speed. I don't see any way around that fact. I agree about the rule, but that also depends on what you are doing. Filming high speed moving subjects is much harder than slow or non moving subjects as we know...

That is normal and yes a bit odd I agree... You can look into frame rates for a few hours if you really want to know all the weirdness that goes into it... I honestly do not recall off the top of my head why, but I have looked it up in the past out of curiosity and at the ned of the day it has no noticeable effect on anything I do...

This FX30 is optimized for video and has a built in cooling fan for longer form recording in warm environments. It can take photos, but I would not recommend this camera for photography. The A6400 geni.us/L75omA is a great option, or the A7 IV geni.us/ZlYsk is what I have and is full frame... The A7C geni.us/N6UyGd would be a more affordable option similar to the A6400, but a full frame version...

Yes, the plate I used was huge and it slightly blocked the fan inlet, but not completely... That tripod plat is larger than normal though and I should have used a different one. Either way the vent still had some breathing room and it caused no issues...

Hi Jason, I hear you should overcompensate at least +1 or +1,5 stops in S-log 3 to get less noise in the shadows! Can I set it without seeing these seemingly overexposed areas that you see on the screen with the zebra function on the screen? I mean set +1 to +1.5 stop overexposure but see on the screen the image you get after editing in DaVinci Or do you always have to look at an image on the screen that is a bit overexposed to the eye, but displays the ideal image after correction? I'm about to order this camera, but do some research first! Thank you for this very good tutorial!
@Jason_Hermann
Жыл бұрын
Hello, a lot of people say to get the maximum dynamic range you should overexpose by 1- 1.5 stops... In general I do not agree and I expose based off the manufactures recommendations for the most part when in my studio. I use a grey card and zebras to check exposure as you can see in this video using Slog2 for example: kzitem.info/news/bejne/y6SknmZ8oZVld6Q Slog3 is very similar when exposing, but the numbers are 41% for the zebras as apposed to 32 for slog2. Slog 2 you can over expose a bit for better noise control and it's more noticeable, because Slog2 has way less information then slog3... Outside it is a bit harder to tell so I use the histogram and look at the image on the screen to judge.
@pfv3462

thanks for your reply I will definitely apply the gray card method, and test it myself! But I don't have any experience with these Sony cameras so I do research on the internet!

When zooming out, holding the lever allows for a nice constant zoom from 200mm all the way out to 18mm. Do you know how to tell it to do that when zooming in, so that I could hold the lever and go from 18mm to 200 mm without it automatically stopping at intervals? Thanks!

This was a great video, although I do feel too much time was spent on stuff that someone buying a camera in this price range should already know. 2 grand is not entry level, and if you're spending that much on a camera it's most likely because you're upgrading from something cheaper or older, so you most likely already know how to operate fundamental things like battery doors, lens mounts, and lens features. Additionally, the tangent regarding the tripod was completely out of place in a video that's meant to be about the camera, and a simple "I'm gonna put this on a tripod and continue from there" would have sufficed. And your recommendation of using full auto on it also rubbed me the wrong way, if someone is buying a 2 grand cinema camera without knowing how to manually expose an image, they do not deserve to own a 2 grand cinema camera.
@Jason_Hermann
Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the feedback Gabriel and I totally understand where you are coming from... However, if you read thru the comments sections of my beginners guides, you will see just how many people do appreciate the beginner oriented nature of my guides, because it connects with them. I have helped tons and tons of people with FX3, FX30, A7R4 that were total beginners and yes I agree they are not your typical first time cameras, but some people have the money and purpose for a great high end camera like this, and just grab instead of a "lesser" model lets say. As far as the tripod goes, I constantly get asked what tripod I am using, so I decided to give that a short segment/ Plug you can easily skip thru if you want. Point taken though as you are correct it was not necessary, but extra info.. When it comes to recommending Full Auto, that is only for people that have no idea how to use cameras and not people are your skill level... Most beginners are not ready to start in manual mode in my opinion and they have a long learning curve process ahead of them. For those people specifically, like I said in the video, I recommend starting on full auto, so they can start to get used to the camera while still having fun and not getting so stressed out. I feel like that is very important, or else they might get stressed/ frustrated and give up on their dream to early due to the steep learning curve they have ahead of them. Does that make sense when viewed from that perspective? That is my thought process on the matter, and why I call it a "Beginners guide" Also, there are lots of more advanced tutorials on this camera you can check out on youtube, but not many beginner based ones like mine. All the best, Jay
