Thank you for the video Spud. I got the retro itch & just picked up the exact same model (much to my wife's dismay, lol) so it'll be easy for me to copy exactly what you did, saved me a heap of time. 👍

Hey, sorry for the comment on an old video. But i have a question. Ive seen in other videos people splitting the 5v to 2.5 for the Blanking switch. Is this something you have done here? Or is it 5v through the switch straight into the YS line on the teletext array?
@markrobertson2301

Hi mate, I have a couple of questions. You mention removing 470ohm resistors but don't show how to do that. Is this something we need to do? How do I locate these resistors? It appears that you're feeding 5v directly into the teletext blanking pin without stepping it down? Is that safe?

It would be cool to see a comparison video with rgb vs component on the same tv with the same console. I've done some tests myself. They looked identical in my tests. You just have to make sure you color calibrate both inputs correctly.
@dotmatrixmoe
2 жыл бұрын
I agree! I don't think there's a "better" input between the two if we're referring to color space, but I do see why a component television would be RGB modded. Transcoders are awfully expensive due to the unnamed virus! :p
@riggel8804

@@riggel8804 Lucky guy, my CRT videophile phase started a bit too late... :P With the right tools, it's also cheaper (around the $30 range) to RGB mod a television. If I had a cheap option for a transcoder, I'd definitely go for it.
@riggel8804
2 жыл бұрын
@@dotmatrixmoe That makes sense. It's also one less link in the chain. It also looks like a fun mod to do. One thing I worry about is the video quality. I've seen RGB mods that looked off. One was way too bright and the guy had to turn the brightness way down. When you use a transcoder you are using the video circuit that was designed buy a sony engineer rather than something cobbled together on a bread board in your garage.
@dotmatrixmoe
2 жыл бұрын
@@riggel8804 Yup, it greatly depends on your Chroma IC. Sometimes all post-processing effects and black level clamping are handled on the OSD lines, so I haven't encountered these problems. Sony Trinitrons generally don't have these problems, but on other sets it's a bit tedious to calibrate.

Hey Spud. Do you know where I could get a copy of a kvxg29m30's firmware? Could I use any firmware from a BG-3S chassis? So do you not need sync? I've seen so many versions of RGB mods and my head is spinning. Folks never show exactly where things are wired. Your video is the closest I've seen. At 14:30 there are RGB and 5v shown, which are soldered to the PCB. Where are the other ends of those wires going?

The header where the Ground,, RGB and 5v go back to the jungle and main processor. The cables go to the RGB connections. I don't need to wire in a sync. I use composite as Sync.
