Just checked out these 2 at Walmart tonight and the Soundcore is pretty impressive for its size. It sounded about as full as a tiny speaker can imo and the price is right for the few scenarios you use these types of speaker in. I have the xb33 and it sounds great but it's not the easiest to travel with so the Soundcore would be great to just throw in my bag and go. Great review as always.

Hi Alan I have 2 Sony XB12's for about a year now. I would never listen to music with them but pop one of them into the cup holder of my car & its just perfect for listening to audiobooks. Vocals are handled excellently & sound in no way tinny. I would say that the XB12 sounds best at 80% to 90% volume. I wouldn't be without them. Its a superb speaker when it comes to handling vocals.

I sense you might start to be bothered by my multiple speakers obsession, so to sum up the idea, a long time ago I had a quite good "HiFi" power amp with 4 different pairs of passive speakers plugged to it. Of course I didn't had a real sound stage as it was only stereo, but the feeling of being "wrapped " by sound was really enjoyable at any volume, and the different signatures of the speakers and their placement did produce some sort of sound stage. It's that feeling I'd like to achieve. But my living room is not appropriate to accommodate for large speakers and cables running all over the place: this is one of the reasons why I felt that Bluetooth speakers might be the solution. But finally it's not that easy. Maybe it's the only good reason for UE and JBL to be so "extremely priced ": they do provide a "party mode" that works with most of their models. Of course the miniRig is very attractive, but they are a little over my budget 😕.And I was disappointed to see that Soundcore who's providing full featured speakers and app is narrowing it's party cast to a few of it's speakers. Or Tribit calling partyUp the ability to pair at most two speakers! that's a hell of a party! So I apologize in advance, I'll probably still ask you silly questions, as I still can't find out the right solution for me.

But Motion Boom is a very close 2nd, and I love listening to both !

Hello Alan I wonder what would be the output with four or even six of those Soundcore mini 3 considering the twin effect surface + power ? I'm quite sure it would be really pleasant at lower volume, but I have no clue to figure if they would match a single motion boom at near max loudness ??? When I say match I mean could play alongside a motion boom maybe adding some clarity, I've watched your review and am aware there's no deep bass on the menu with mini 3. Thank you for your much appreciated, and detailed reviews !

I have been looking forward to this. Sony is a toy speaker, Anker is somewhat better. But none is really impressive. Where is your Tribit Micro? It weighs 290 g so it is still in the same class and is still the best alternative in my mind. As pocketable as all the others here. By the way I noticed that Tribit has a new speaker called Stormbox Pro, a 40 W 2.1 speaker with an active subwoofer. Priced at 110 EUR, 1 kg, would be intersting to compare with Motion +.

i just threw the bose and minirig in as a reference point, we know the tribit is similar, slightly less loud, bit more clinical and balanced. I assumed the choice between those speakers and the sony/mini 3 would be down to form factor rather than sound. 🤓

@@alanrossreviews Which it isn´t of course, Sony sounds really bad with lacking bass and even Mini 3 can´t handle lower bass tones.
