Z1R is a lot of bang for the money. Best closed-back hp so far.

Yes man! If they both cost below $400 then I would go with Z1R as well!

It would be interesting to hear your take on the new ZMF Eikons with the harder wood and the optional lighter chassis compared to the Z1R.

Those, while certainly lighter in weight than Audeze, are still like 530 grams. The Z1R is 397 grams, so still way lighter in weight.

One question? What's the differences between the international version and U.S. version of the z1r? I have both headphones. The z1r(unbelievable sound stage, warm, detail and yummy detail bass) is light years ahead of the nightowl at every level. You still cannot go wrong with the nightowl. Excellent sound signature(neutral, slightly forward and smooth) and very comfortable. I highly recommend both headphones for the can heads there.

night owl carbon is also not 1800 dollars. I got my pair for roughly 460 including adding a warranty on it. The original pricing was also 1k less.

I think Sony don’t officially provide warranty for either one of them but I’m sure they sound the same

I don't like IEM's so having tried the IER-Z1R. Also I no longer like Audeze as a company.

phototristan my friend, did something happen to your 4Z hps? I don’t have Audeze hps yet, too heavy for me. But if the drivers continue to have issues, that’s a bummer. We just need to stay away from Audeze.

I have a similar if not exact preference of what I like a headphone to sound like as you. If you could buy 1 headphone under 2000, would it be the Z1R?

Where you buy your cable for the Z1R ?

It’s the Sony Kimber upgrade headphone cable. There are a couple different versions, however they are in limited production now so your best bet will probably be eBay or other secondhand market

bang for buck -> night owl; I HAVE used them, and the quality compared to any similarly priced headphone was good. I preferred its appearance (isn't one for the giant circle cups) the bass is weak compared to most headphones, but all classic music is crisp. premium matching price would be z1r? maybe, I've never used them. I might have to look into those and similar, I just really don't wanna spend 2k on a pair of headphones when I shouldn't have to. It's worse than the price difference between tvs and computer monitors x'D... (particularly when those payoffs are "a little more oomph", but there are audiophiles who will physically hurt without having something to their tastes, so can understand that)

Yes, the Nightowls are quite nice indeed.

No way the bass on the nightowl is weak "compare to most headphones". It has one of the better bass quality and quantity. And that's comparing to Hifiman Edition XS and Audeze LCD-X, FOCAL Clear, Senn HD5xx-6xx. I don't know what you mean by "most headphones" when the nightowl is among the bigger bass response headphones I've owned.
