If you turn on Dynamic Active Stabilization on ZV-E1 and walk, will it capture the vignetting? Super curious to know 😬
@AmaraBenjamin

It depends, when you move forward, usually not, but if you turn or do very sharp movements, vignetting can appear
@PetukCouple

@@AmaraBenjamin Thanks for the info. Will that be very dark or acceptable for vlogging? 😬
@AmaraBenjamin
4 ай бұрын
@PetukCouple the vignetting is quite pronounced at times when turning. Then you may keep that in mind and keep the talking parts of your vlogging to the « walking straight sections », or maybe crop out the image a little bit to remove the occasional vignetting. You can also (I don’t recommend it) remove the rear baffle of the lens to reduce the vignetting further. All these are quite a bit of compromise and after months of use, I stopped vlogging with this setup and moved to the DJI pocket 3. I find it easier to use and still pretty good image quality. There are also some small and ultra wide full frame lenses that have been released in the last year or so. You may want to do some research on these too.

Hello starting at 3:36, did you have active stabilization on while vlogging? Also, what did you use to reduce the shaking since you’re walking
@AmaraBenjamin
Жыл бұрын
Hey Ashley, I actually used an stabilization software + it’s plugin for Davinci resolve called Gyroflow. For it to work you need to switch off all stabilization on the camera. Bonus is that it works well on any Sony camera that records gyro data

@@AmaraBenjamindo you find that stabilization off + gyroflow works better than dynamic active + slight crop in post?
@AmaraBenjamin
8 ай бұрын
@bladerealm124 so I haven’t done Gyroflow in a while, but if memory serves, if you spend the time to tweak the settings and have a good lens profile, you may get slightly better results some times, but you also get some clips where it fails at times. Overall, I’m mostly using the dynamic active stabe nowadays, it saves me so much time.

Thanks for the test. I've read the comment that you use A7iii for this test. Since you got E1, is dynamic stabilization + 1.3x clear image zoom will be the best setting?
@AmaraBenjamin
10 ай бұрын
Hi there, when using dynamic stabi with the ZVE1, clear image zoom is disabled (works only in the other stabilization modes). I usually crop in post between 1.1 to 1.2 times depending on the movements involved. Disclaimer: I have removed the rear baffle on the lens (probably won’t recommend it as you will lose warranty and resale value) to reduce the vignetting a little further, so you may need to crop 1.2-1.3 times, not sure.

@@AmaraBenjaminhow much did removing the rear baffle help? Can it be put back on?
@AmaraBenjamin

@bladerealm124 I think it reduces vignetting around 5-10%. Quite tricky to but it back but possible I reckon, however I’m pretty sure it would void the warranty. Not sure I’d recommend doing it tbh

Which stabilization mode did you use. Did you have everything on auto? Did you have any filters ?

I did use an plugin for Davinci resolve called Gyroflow to stabilise in post for this video. Settings: Aperture priority, f1.8 and iso at 100, no filters. In the end results are quite similar to dynamic active stabilisation, but I will do a comparison video soon.

@AmaraBenjamin

Hey there, I haven’t used NDs on the lens, but I can try next week (I’m away at the moment). Given how wide the lens is, it’s quite likely it will increase the vignetting. I’ll come back to you in a couple of days

Hi there, I don’t use NDs on the 11mm with the ZV-E1, because I mainly use it with dynamic active stabilisation, which works best with a high shutter speed. If needed I sometimes add artificial motion blur in post (resolve has a good one).

thanks for putting this together! I was using my sigma 16mm f1.4 with my a7siii for awhile since the vignette isn't too bad. I did notice that with my lens and with the 11mm as well, there's some warping in the corners that would take a significant crop to reduce. Since then I switched over to a FF 20mm lens. Curious if you feel like the warping is caused by using an crop lens on FF.
@AmaraBenjamin

Hey Steven, I think it’s quite possible it’s the reason. Also, I believe really wide lenses may accentuate the warping « effect ». I have a couple less wide APsC lenses to try in full frame mode and will see if the same appears

@@AmaraBenjamin Nice. Someone told me that the fixed ND filter is better then variable one for vignetting. I want to buy 3 fixed ND stops, can you recommend me 3 numbers(with fixed stops)? Maybe 3, 5, 8 ? Thank you!
@AmaraBenjamin
Жыл бұрын
@claudiubanu8438 I like working with variable NDs, because I tend to adjust the exposure level a lot. I also like to get bigger filter size and adapt them to my various lenses with step up rings. For instance, I have a 72mm VND 2-400 that I can adapt to the 11mm in crop mode, and it doesn’t vignet. That said, if you want to go with fixed NDs, 3 (nd8), 5 (nd32) and 8 (nd256) sound good. Try getting filters with slim rims (avoids vignetting) and double threaded so you could stack them if needed (but don’t screw then too tight so you can unscrew them easily). Generally I do think VNDs are more practical for video and NDs are better for photography when you have time and control, and want ultimate image quality

Hey I could try this next time I get my hands on the zve1 (I don’t own it unfortunately), in the meantime have you ever tried Gyroflow as an alternative to catalyst Browse? The downside is that you need to turn all stabilisation off on the camera, while the upside is that you can use a plugin for davinci resolve and avoid transcoding the footage. Otherwise, if you want, you could send me a sample clip and I can see if I find a solution with catalyst? Let me know…
