I think there's one more major drawback of the ZV1. There is a really high chance of messing up the retractable lens with a single drop or with debris (sand at the beach). Maybe it is appropriate for someone that really is willing to baby the camera, but for most people, the risk is quite high. I think I recall Kai W wrecking his on the first day he had it.

I wish they would come out with a fix focus ZV-1 because I zoom less than 1% of the time and do not need the fragile state of the retractable lens.. Plus the start-up of the ZV-1 is slowed down as the lens needs to extend / Shut down is slowed down because of slow retracting lens too.

I have and currently use the zv1. Good camera, but was eyeing the e10 for the interchangeable lenses, better battery, and USBC port, but then I found out about the rolling shutter problem. Question, do you know if programs like final cut can easily correct rolling shutter? Not sure if you use final cut or something else. As usual, great video!
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
2 жыл бұрын
Rolling shutter is a non-issue if you use the free catalyst browse which I highly recommend. On a tripod, the rolling shutter is obviously not a problem. Rolling shutter can be corrected with plugins and software as well. But the ZV-E10 has the same rolling shutter as the a6400, a6500, and a6600 and no one complains about those cameras. The issue is extremely overblown in my opinion. These youtubers who talk about rolling shutter are spoiled because they all have a a7sIII. 😂 What do you shoot? For me, rolling shutter has not been an issue ever with how I use a camera.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis good to know about catalyst browse, thank you! I shoot only in 1080 anyway for your tube videos. @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

Fully zoomed in you won’t see much of a difference between the kit lens fully zoomed in with the ZV1 in terms of bokeh (background blur). The kit lens fully zoomed in is a 50mm at f5.6 so that means 50 5.6 x 1.5 = 75mm at F8.4 in full frame field of view and depth of field, where as the ZV1 fully extended is 25.7mm F2.8 x 2.7 = 69mm at F7.6. ZV-1 is not 24mm equivalent, but 26 or 27. The RX100 series is 24mm equivalent, as it has a 8.8mm actual focal length at the widest settings. The ZV-1 widest actual focal length is 9.4mm. I compared them, in RAW photo mode. The RX100m7 has a noticeably wider field of view. And the RX100m6/m7 has Intelligent Active image stabilization in the video,, which is significantly better than the Active image stabilization of the ZV-1 which is on par with the RX100m5. The RX100m7 is a much more advanced camera. The lens aperture is not as fast. The ZV-1 took the hardware/processor of the older RX100m5, added a mic jack, removed the viewfinder, and put it in a plastic body. Older camera technology marketed as new. I have the cameras I mentioned. I got the ZV-1 on sale for 650, but otherwise, the RX100m7 is a much better camera, although the movie record button is small and in a worse position. The ZV-1 is ok at 650, but at 800, I am not sure. I also lost the wind muffler/dead cat. Sony charges $32+shipping for the part. The lack of EVF is also a bit of a limitation.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
2 жыл бұрын
yes, the 24 claim is definitely being too generous to the ZV1. Even if it was a true one inch sensor, the full frame equivalent would be 25.38, and seeing as it is not quite the dimensions of a one once, 26 would be more accurate

I NEED A LENS RECOMMENDATION. Late to this party and just subscribed. Thanks for your wonderful videos. Like so many here, I'm battling the choice: 1 or E10? I'm leaning towards the E10 as I want my first real camera to have more focal and prime choices. I want a camera that will serve in more applications. If I was just using this for traditional travel (where space is not so limited), then the E10 would be a no-brainer . But I also want to use it as a second camera on my bike packing adventures. I'll be using a GoPro Hero 10 for the fast wide-angle stuff but I want something else for higher quality stills and video when I'm off the bike. I'm not worried about investing in more lenses for home use or for regular travel but was wondering if there is one lens that you would recommend (I do not want the kit lens) as an all-around that could handle simple talking head vlogs AND some nice nature photographs. A 35mm equivalent? I know this is a difficult question but I'll only be able to carry one lens on the bike. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I’m sorry about the following, but the brew in hand tells me a lot about you. There are many women who can handle the tech devices available to the general public for any project difficulty. Just look at the other YT channels with women exhibiting the skills and know I’d said equipment. The way you presented your audience considering one camera over the other is condescending towards women and their ability to use something other than a point and shoot camera, because you don’t want to take the time to educate them on the use of better gear to make the quality content without the help of their partner. Perpetuating the belief that women can’t survive without them, or have the capacity to learn the better gear. You might not be aware of your presentation shading women is due to the saturation of the alcohol clouding your ability to filter out your misogynistic tendency/behavior. Quick, count backwards from a hundred, while walking backwards down 2 flight of stairs blindfolded.

Hi Mark, Nice comparison. Key difference: ZV1: pocketable ZV-e10: interchangeable lenses Here’s the math for the ZV1 focal length crop factors: Credits: Peter Trub and Over-X-poser comments on Kasey’s video. UltraHD 24p crop: 1.094 Active stabilization: 1.185 Combined: 1.094 x 1.185 = 1.29639 ZV-1 sensor size: 13.2mm x 8.8mm FF sensor size: 36mm x 24mm Crop factor for ZV-1 to FF (ff/ZV-1): 36/13.2 = 24/8.8 = 30/11 = 2.727 ZV-1 Crop with 24p + active stabilization: 9.4mm x 1.29639 x 2.727 = 33.2mm FF-equivalent 25.7mm x 1.29639 x 2.727 = 90.9mm FF-equivalent So for 0.45x wide adapter, you take: 33.2mm x 0.45 = 14.94mm FF-equivalent 90.9mm x 0.45 = 40.905mm FF-equivalent There is Zomei (0.45x) ultra wide lens adapter with a 52mm thread. And the other one is Ulanzi (0.75x). As you mentioned, if the use case is needing something portable and hybrid shooting, hands down ZV1 But when requiring more scenes/scenarios requiring lowlight and bokeh, then the ZVe10 as a good entry level body. I have the a6600 so sticking with that one. Hopefully a7xxx series is better

It will be a prores file 4.2.2. There is no raw. I personally don’t see any difference between the 4.2.0 internal file and the Ninja V prores 4.2.2 file. Except that the prores is much bigger - which is a disadvantage. I use my Ninja to monitor, but I record internally that the SD card because it’s saves on space and if there is a difference - I certainly can’t see it with what I shoot.
@charlespatrick8650
2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks, was also wondering if what the Ninja captures is straight from the camera's image sensor, but it sounds like there's some internal camera processing involved before leaving the HDMI port, since it's not RAW video, also note sure if S-Log2/S-Log3 gamma settings are just for still images, or can also be applied to video shot by the ZV-E10?
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
2 жыл бұрын
@@charlespatrick8650 You can use slog2 or 3 in video, but it's not recommended because the camera is not 10-bit. I always use HLG3 - it gives you almost as much dynamic range and it won't fall apart in colour grading.

@MarkBennettCameraCrisis

I actually think the zv-e10 can be used for vlogging now that I use the catalyst browse workflow. Check out some of my other vids as I am using the ZV-E10 a lot in vlogging scenarios. But out of the two, I think the ZV1 is a pretty good choice because it's so small and compact and has less of a crop in regular stabilization.

Am thinking neither of these cameras would be of interest to me. I have time, and will see what comes out when Sony starts changing the crop line-up. I don't like the side flip screen for vlogging, the audio won't cut it, the plastic body and touch screen is no better than my old 5100s ... I just don't see either of these for anyone already with Sony lenses and accessories. The 6400 is close, but I really don't like the contraption they use for the flip-up screen. My plan is to wait, no hurry to upgrade. Hope the buyers of these cameras enjoy them, but I don't feel like either fit the bill for me. Cheers -- good comparison ....makes one think.

What about iPhone 12 vs ZEV 10 ??? for vlogging and short film ??
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis

Definitely the ZV-E10 for short film. The iPhone might be ok for Vlogging because of its stability, but if you use catalyst browse on the Sony footage - it will be better for vlogs too. You can do great things with a phone, but a good camera with a good sensor like the ZV-E10 will get you much better results.

A full frame sensor measure 36mm 24mm and a once inch sensor measures 12.80mm x 9.60mm - so the closest math that makes sense is that it is 2.7 times smaller. Try mmcalc.com/ for quick ways to do sensor math
