I pre-ordered the ZV-E10 for $800. The a6100 is sold for $1000 in our country - but this doesn't even have HLG or S-Log, it doesn't have a vari-angle screen, it doesn't have a headphone jack for monitoring (the $1500 a6600 has), it also doesn't have a good built in microphone; all these, yet it's still $200 more expensive than the ZV-E10? I see the ZV-E10 more of a rehoused a6400 with tradeoffs. It's the same with the a7c vs a7iii. You gain some, you lose some. The point here is it's cheaper than the aps-c lineup, and it has a better sensor than the ZV-1. It's overhyped but it's not bad for its price. Also, we can't expect a built in ND if even the $4000 FX3 doesn't have one.

Good way of looking at it! 👍 I also want to clarify that the Zv-E10 I'm sure for many users will be a fine camera. It just bothered me that there are a lot of trade offs and the reviews are very overly positive.

I almost buy ZVE10 in 2023 but i am thinking what’s for adding up more than 100usd on my purpose of getting on-the-go camera, which I absolutely not upgrading the new lens and won’t turning photographer. We'll prepare to be amazed. Did you know there are two wide angle lenses that you attach.to the zv-1 to give it 19 to 20mm? Check out the review of both kzitem.info/news/bejne/pZ1nnn16gZx3lag . I bought both and use the cheaper one when walking about and the more expensive (and heavier) one when stationary. It's awesome, as you can use active stabilisation and you still have around 23mm or so. Best small video setup with a mic in the hotshoe.

Thanks for the video Jack, I was looking into getting one eventually as a ZV1 owner but now I see it's not worth it and I'll just stick to the one I have until I feel like I've outgrown it. If anyone is interested in a ZV1 here's my review: It's a great camera to learn with for beginners. I wasn't as much into the tech part of cameras such as the aperture, ISO and shutter speed in the beginning, so I just let it auto everything and it does a good enough job. But the real power of the ZV1 is when you get curious enough to start learning what all the different settings do and what the camera is really capable of. It's very portable because you don't need to worry about lenses, but I would suggest getting a wide and macro lens attachment for a little more variety. Is it the best camera? No. Does it get the job done for the price? Absolutely. I use it to make cinematic vlogs and it does good job. I will eventually upgrade to something else, but I really enjoy this camera. TLDR: This camera is good for beginners, you can let it auto everything and it will look pretty good, but you can get more use out of it once you learn different settings and can see what it's really capable of. Professionals in filmmaking/cinematography will want something else.

Watching this a year later it sounds like Sony took your's or someone else's likeminded criticism into consideration when making the newer release ZV-1F. I'm leaning towards it simply due to budget and beginner stage use scenario but I wish although unnecessary, they kept the neck strap brackets on these smaller compact offerings. Also I wish it had a built in 8-45 or so built in zoom while maintaining this improved wide angle, better stabilization and resolve the shutter jello effect issue. Me and I bet many others would be willing to pay a 30-40 percent more cost premium for such a product and it would get massive praise and huge sales. This would hit all markets from beginner to pro if done right. Call it the Sony Alpha Travel Pro. A-TP1 and counting. A grip size increasing optional accessory would nice too. Hire us Sony!

I think that content creators that don’t get paid the money you do (like me) like a bang for their buck and they get it with this camera. Hell you could even buy a used body and use an old emount lens you may have. You’re comparing expensive cameras like an A7 to a ZV E10. Acting like spending more than $1200 is the same as spending $700 makes you sound extremely unaware of your privilege. A lot of people like bringing quality and versatility to their videos without having 1m subscribers. Your points were all valid, but they only truly mattered for vloggers. Yes this is marketed as a vlogging camera, but for content creators that stay at home most of the time, none of the arguments you stated really mattered. To me it’s very clear who this is aiming for, though I do agree with the fact that jittering and low battery life would be a huge problem for the people this is mostly marketed towards.

The advantage of the E10 is it uses same sensor as 6000 series and costs more or less the same, but the E10 can add lens. I get it about the extra outlay of new glass but you can always resell good glass and lose very little. I am very tempted by the Zv1 over the E10 as it is an all in one but you can't ignore that great sensor on the E10, it maybe getting on now but it's really good. Sony have given us an awesome sensor, headphone mic inputs, swivel screen, dedicated buttons, unlimited recording and under £800! and that's crazy. I think I will go E10 as I want to get some good glass anyway. You will be able to sell both easily and won't lose much if anything and both rock!

E10 surely is a great camera, but this Sony APS-C sensor tech is old now. That rolling shutter / jello / jitters is unsuitable for walkabout vlogging and run'n'gun filmmaking. I don't understand why more people don't mention this. ZV-1 has a much better rolling shutter performance. I guess E-10 is a good budget choice for people that specifically want a Sony APS-C camera. I just got the ZV-E10 body by itself and the Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 lens. I also just bought the Crane M2 gimbal, and that combination is quite literally right at the weight limit of the gimbal. It's a perfect lightweight vlogging and livestreaming combo, the latter of which I'll be doing a lot more often next year. So the rolling shutter and relative lack of stabilization isn't as big of a deal of me. For me, the USB-C bit is quite important because I have TWO 200W GaN chargers on the way as well, and my entire mobile workstation setup is switching to a USB-C ecosystem using a Framework laptop (if you haven't heard of them, check them out. SUPREMELY cool concept). And since I'm gonna be shooting almost exclusively indoors, the ND filter isn't an issue for me either. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I feel like this is EXACTLY what I need for my setup. Also, the A7SIII body, just by itself, is quite literally DOUBLE the price of the ZV-E10, lens, and gimbal combo put together. The Tamron lens isn't cheap either, by any stretch of the imagination, but at least I can keep the lens and use it on a successor five years from now - even something full frame if I want that aesthetic! That 16.5-30 full frame equivalent focal length is vital for the kind of wide shots I'm going to need, and the F2.8 is essential for shooting in lower-lit indoors situations.

Totally agree with your review. I feel like most of the reviews that dropped yesterday skipped over the negatives to keep Sony sweet and keep them getting gear in advance of the release date. The terrible rolling shutter and Jello, poor stabilisation in either option, crazy 1.44x crop in Active Stabe plus the poor 1080p quality were barely mentioned. I have the ZV1 as a B cam and it beats the ZV-E10 in all these areas. The small crops in 4K and Active Stabe on the ZV1 were hammered in the reviews but the ZV-E10 is much worse. The 16-50 kit lens is not rated highly so once you add in the cost of a decent lens, you are getting way more expensive and up to double the price of the ZV1. If you use the ZV-E10 in 4K at 24/25 fps locked down on a tripod in good lighting with a decent lens like one of the Sigma trio, the results will be excellent. In other scenarios, I would choose a different camera with more versatility and better stabilisation.

@@MikAlexander This camera is a total winner on all levels. The problem is, many of these channels are trying to grab view attention which gives off a very inaccurate review for the consumer. Is this a great camera? Yes!!. Is this a brilliant camera? (Yes). should you buy it! Yes. Why??? The price and features are next level. I own a GH5 and had a A6500 (Which I sold) due to the poor screen, battery life and heating issue........but I absolutely loved the DOF the sony cameras produce. This camera for me is incredible value if you want interchangeable lenses which I do. Everything else this camera does is ++++. The problem is now....everyone will talk about the same issues all the cameras have (Stabilisation, Rolling Shutter) Thats all old news. Look at all the positives this camera offers (Not the negatives). If you're coming into this for the first time (what an incredible product!!). As a professional...this for me is a brilliant B rig and (A) rig for the Sony colours and DOF. Also....most people doing pro work outside use a Gimbal which shuts down the IBIS issues. Any work you're doing in a. controlled enviromenet doesn't need IBIS. Buy it and start making amazing content! I've ordered mine already.

@@AndyMacMPCclub this is the most biased bullshit reply I've ever read lmao. Do you work for Sony? The screen on the ZV-E10 is virtually the same as the ZV1 (Also not a great screen) and nobody has mentioned if it dims in 4K but I assume it does. These screens are TERRIBLE in bright daylight. " The problem is now....everyone will talk about the same issues all the cameras have (Stabilisation, Rolling Shutter)" All cameras have? The Panasonic GH5 has AMAZING stabilisation and also barely any rolling shutter. My A7III has nowhere near the rolling shutter (and neither does the Zv1 btw). Gimbal? So to get steady shots without the 1.44 enormous crop you need to spend another £300 / $300 + on a gimbal. This comment is hilarious, sorry Andy but Sony has you fooled.

I agree with your video, and all the points in it, however literally none of these problems apply to my use case. I think the Sony ZV-E10 is a dream camera and am considering buying two. Let me tell you why. I currently have a A6600 as an A cam and a ZV-1 as a B cam and an array of high quality Sony and Sigma APS-C lenses for the A6600, including Sony G lenses. I produce content that is tripod and "studio" based. For me the Sony ZV-E10 is actually a better A6600 with upgraded colour science, the same sensor and same processor with eye-tracking and a flippy screen at literally half the price. I am actually waiting for the market to figure this out. They haven't yet. The ZV-E10 disrupts the entire A6xxx line, including the top-of-the-line A6600. Because I do indoors, stationary video work primarily, I don't need weather sealing, a viewfinder or the abysmal IBIS that is present in the A6600, nor do I need big battery life, although the ZV-E10 has still improved a lot with the battery upgrade from the ZV-1 NP-BX1. I imagine that there are a lot of creators in this same boat. They simply want high quality, limit free 4k recording in a small flexible and affordable package. With the ZV-E10, I can throw on a Sony 10-18mm F4 or one of the Sigma prime trio that I already own, plug it into USB-C to operate on mains power or from a battery bank, and have a much better experience with the flippy side screen, rather than having to stand up every five minutes to check my ISO and exposure compensation on the stupid A6600 vertical screen that is constantly obscured by my Small Rig cage and shotgun mic. Nor do I have to fumble around with the silly and tiny video record button that was so obviously designed as an afterthought by someone who thought the A6600 would literally never be used by anyone for video, ever. And did I mention that the ZV-E10 is half the price? I can literally own two of them for the price of a single A6600. And the technology is *exactly* the same, barring the IBIS in the A6600 that doesn't work anyway. If I do need to go out and about with the ZV-E10 I would put in on a Ronin SC, but could probably get away with a Crane M2, because the ZV chassis is so light, to deliver proper gimbal stabilised footage as God intended. But in all likelihood, I might just use my iPhone 12 Pro Max, rather than kidding myself that any combination of lens and in-camera stabilisation works for anything other than stills.

I shoot on a Sony A7ii, while I love it, I'm needing something better for vlogging (it's fine when I'm shooting but when I'm trying to film myself it's a disaster). I would LOVE to get the A7siii but that is out of my price range for now. So far I've been impressed with the stability of the Sony ZV-E10 - I'm not a fan of being stuck with 1 lens on the ZV1. Check out this video from Terry Warfield: kzitem.info/news/bejne/z52IyYxtgn2pdGk The ZV-1 is pretty great and I now make MORE content because it's so small and easy, however, I get it isn't for everyone. I will say everyone will like ZV-E10 than ZV1, changing lens is a big big advantage, I know lot of folks want a much smaller camera with interchangeable lens which ZV-E10 provides. Moreover some primes are not that expensive and I will say for most people it is a 2nd camera and for the newbies it's a good bang for the buck. I have been with Nikon for 15 years now but this small little thing is with me always. I throw it in the car just like that. Rolling Shutter-Not a big deal at all, I really do not care for that. Software fix everything, may be the next update from Sony. Take it easy on that. Overall it is a very very good package I will say go for it. The interchangeable lens thing really helpful. Has mic and headphone I/O, picture profiles bigger sensor than ZV1 and you can get really nice fast affordable APSC glass without having to go full frame and facing the cost of FF glass. While I own several Sony’s cameras, what I use the most for my channel is the A6600 (with ITU 709 / ITU709 matrix for lazy instant great colors) which has same sensor as ZVE10 and coat half the price with some new features that the A6600 doesn’t have (and I wish it did) like product showcase.

As a Zv-1 user I agree with your points. However, there’s no getting around the fact that the ZV-E10 has the bigger sensor making it better in low light. *Maybe* better image quality overall. The ZV-E10 has a higher ceiling to grow into with it’s lens interchangeability. You don’t have to buy another lens right away. Figure out what you need later and save the money. You can’t ever do that with the ZV-1. The price points on both are excellent so having both wouldn’t be a bad proposition. A and B cams for a YT studio perhaps?

I think this is a fair point of view..my issue is mainly with the jello effect rolling shutter considering it's meant to be for "vloggers" where let's face it, shaky footage is best avoided... especially due to often fast movements..I also don't like that the lenses now make the zv-e10 nowhere near as portable as the zv1. the zv1 would be better in low light due to 1.8 than the zve10 with kit lens 3.5 so unless youre willing to buy extra expensive lens the zv1 is a better choice out of the box. also the zv1 stabilization is also way better than the zve10. the zve10 is still a better choice than like a6100, and probably better than a6400.

@@truthseeker6804 Not sure about ZV-1 vs ZV-E10 low light performance. Would need to be tested. ZV-1 has the equivalent of F4-F7 full frame, and the crappy ZV-E10 kit lens has F5.25-F8.4, so yes a bit more light comes through on the ZV-1. However, the APS-C sensor on the ZV-E10 is much larger than ZV-1 so that will offer better low light performance (just like how full frame sensors will perform better than APS-C in low light). Remember - ZV-1 is a 1” sensor which is 1/7 the area size of full frame. ZV-E10 is APS-C which is 1/2 the area size of full-frame. Consequently, APS-C will better than 1” in other aspects of image quality too including more accurate colours and better dynamic range. Incidentally, the tiny 1” sensor is probably the reason why rolling shutter is so reduced in the ZV-1.

I can't understand when people compare 2 different cameras. ZV-1 and ZV-E10 are 2 different cameras!! Here we talk about a 1" sensor camera and an APS-C sensor camera. ZV-E10 ("compared" to ZV-1): Bigger sensor, best image processing, lower noise. Interchangeable lenses? Yes, gives you more ability for playing with aperture, depth of field, zoom range. Pro features? Yes, we can enjoy color grading thanks to s-log. Image stabilization? Better than in A7C (what is a shame for Sony!), however active IS is a "catalyst software" in these cameras, as the image is also a little cropped. But we can talk about image stabilization! AF system improvement is good, the camera has pro AF features... And the dark point: the read out rolling effect.. YESSS! The biggest misteake from Sony to give this camera in your hand with such a big problem, the camera which is made for recording MOVING things. Only this feature is why I won't buy it. I think it's unusable for what it made for! And this is a big mistake of Sony (again). So maybe ZV-1 for $800 is much more budget friendly giving us the 80-90% of same quality of ZV-E10. But they are 2 different type of cameras. I think reviews after 1 day of purchase are sponsored somehow by Sony, so they can't say now the real or bad features of ZV-E10. now this camera must sell out... Objective and real critical reviews come later (Jack is the exception). We have to wait...

Of course, the issue is that although they are two different cameras, Sony has released it as part of a family and a series of vlogging cameras. At the price, there's nothing currently on the market, with or without a lens, that has good autofocus, reasonable 4K quality, and no built-in or practical record limits. The ZV-1 overheats easily, Fuji/Olympus/Canon cameras have record limits, Panasonic can't focus reliably, and even other Sony 6000 series cameras are considerably more expensive. That's the only reason I'm probably buying the ZV-E10. I'm leaving it on a tripod and rolling shutter won't even matter. I think it's just poorly advertised as a vlogging camera, but I also think the handheld vlog style while walking around is not as big of a thing as camera reviewers seem to make it out to be. Even channels that have selfie vlogging don't have that much of it. Tripod mounted performance indoors is the important thing because that's how 95% of entry level KZitem content (including this video!) seems to be shot, and I think just based on how good it will be at that for the price, it's going to be a winner and well very well. The funny thing is that you made this video about how unnecessary this camera is, but to match the quality of your footage, the most bang for the buck would be a ZV-E10 with a Sigma 30mm f/1.4. In any case, you keep harping on the price, but the ZV-E10 without a lens is $50 less than a ZV-1, and a ZV-E10 with a kit lens is $50 more than a ZV-1. It's absolutely a great value. The A6400 is $200 more, and A7 III is almost three times its price.

ZV-E10 with a 30mm lens would be almost impossible to use as a vlogging camera? That is not a good option for most people. But your comment was well structured and actually quite reasonable in it's remarks so much so that I probably agree with you and I think you're right that this is marketed badly as a vlogger camera. If they said "content creators camera" the rolling shutter wouldn't be such a huge problem. For me, it just seems a shame that the ZV1 ticked so many boxes to then be basically re-written with the ZV-E10. I'd have much rather seen a ZV-2 with wider lens, maybe a better battery.

@@JackWoodhams A SIgma 16mm f/1.4 would be a better choice for vlogging, but honestly 16mm is not wide enough for most people in selfie mode, with or without active stabilization. I basically agree that it's a terrible vlogger's camera. These companies need to stop talking about vlogging when they're not even trying to make a vlog camera and vlogging isn't even that popular compared to just standard streaming and/or content creation on a tripod. I think the only company that has made a vlog-friendly kit lens is Panasonic, which has a compact kit zoom of 20-60mm for the S5, which would be incredible if the S5 had more reliable autofocus because its video quality and stabilization are probably better than any full frame mirrorless camera right now otherwise.

Camera Conspiracies is always High on Honesty, Low on Tech. Well.., Medium on tech. He pointed out that the 1080p SUCKS on the ZV-E10. (Like, it's a bug or something. It's really bad.) And the cropping is insane. He basically said the camera was lame. (Half of Kasey's camera channel subscribers aren't there for the camera stuff. They show up because one of his camera tests is running across busy streets in slow mo.)

I'd argue the sensor is one of the most important defining characteristic of a camera. The Zv-e10 has Aps-C, the zv-1 has 1 inch. Saying that both have the same weak point because of the lens not being wide completely misses the point. You dont change a camera sensor without changing the camera. But you can change the lens easily. The APS-C sensor will yield significant improvement in the image quality compared with a 1 inch. To me theres no comparison

The point you miss and a lot of other people miss is that the zv1 hit a certain demographic. To then release an "upgrade" that is a completely different camera for a completely different audience makes videos like this necessary to point out the pros and cons. Bear in mind this video was made before the zv1 2 etc were released.

Deal breakers for me: 1. JELLO 2. No built in ND 3. Mad cropping I agree that the ZV-1 is the better choice all around. And, I think the ZV1-E10 is for talking head vloggers who shoot indoors only. 😂😂😂

@@JackWoodhams , right?!!! I love how they advertised it with people “rolling” around and swinging the camera as they vlog. 😂😂😂 I think the camera is not bad, but it’s not for people vlogging on the go. I was thinking of getting it for my home setup for the product showcase mode, dope AF, snd dope low light, but I don’t want to buy Sony mount lenses. I’m heavily invested in Canon FF glass and M43 glass already. Waiting for that GH6 instead. If that one is a disappointment, I’ll pick up an R6.

Awesome review, Jack! I'm looking for a second camera other than my a6100 and considering the ZV-E10 but your review is steering me towards picking another a6100. The deal breakers for me would be the unpredictable crop factor on the E10 (It applies the crop as soon as you press record) which would make framing the shot much more difficult (My a6100 doesn't seem to have all that weird crop). Also looks like they added a lot of features that sound useful (like the built in mic and the bg defocus) but in reality you would be better off plugging an external mic and choosing a wide aperture lens for the bokeh. The other so called advantage would be the stabilization but it's practically unusable as you mentioned due to the crop once again. I am really leaning towards buying another a6100 although it's a bit more expensive and 2 years older than this new model, but I would love to hear your input on this. Your channel is amazing, keep up the good work! Sending greetings from Bulgaria!

Hey! Thanks so much for the kind comment. Well in all honesty if you want to use the Zv-e10 you could use it without stabilisation (and crop) turned on. That way you won't have a large crop at all and if using it for talking head where the camera is still this will be fine. Again the Zv-e10 isn't s bad camera, just not really good for its purpose of "vlogging". How do you currently use your a6100? If the Zv-E10 is cheaper and you already have apsc lenses id be tempted to get the Zv-E10 actually.

@@JackWoodhams I'm currently using my a6100 on a tripod as a streaming camera and wanted to get a second camera for vlogging. The a6100 doesn't have any stabilization so I guess it will be equivalent to turning it off on the ZV-E10. Can you confirm there's no crop factor on the ZV-E10 with the stabilization turned off?
@JackWoodhams

@@sharpirate2904 I'm fairly sure! My zv1 has no crop with stabilisation entirely off. I can't guarantee it though as I don't have one! But it should be the case for the zv-e10

Great video! I got a ZV-1 a few months ago and I was wondering if I should have waited... now I'm glad I got it! Also if you want a wider field of view I added an Ulanzi wide angle adapter for $50. There are tons of reviews on them and they work great!

I am Sony A6100 user. But did not like the greenish colors I was getting. I wanted the Sony A7IV but couldn't wait plus I was curious what a full frame camera can do and bought the Nikon Z5. The price was cheap and gave me two card slots. I do get a 1.7 crop though but I was impressed. Now I have the Z6ii, Z50 and now the Zfc. Happy with my choice. I even bought an adapter that can use the E mount lenses on the Nikon Z mount full frame cameras. Saving me money.
