people who are buying an apple watch or even a garmin aren't looking for a classy looking watch, they're usually looking for features i.e. map integration for mountain biking, recording mileage for sports such as running or cycling, and to send text messages via speech to text without grabbing their phone. I haven't worn a watch in over 20yrs because I was a mechanic and a watch got in my way plus my phone did the job. Then some years ago I went into tech and self employed. I never got into smart watches despite wanting to because of Dick Tracey as a kid. Then I decided to get a watch because in checking the time on my phone, I would get sucked into emails or social media. Little did I know I was finding a new hobby. First watch being a Seiko 5 sports. I was inheriting the distaste for quartz from most YT videos until I realized I could test drive watch styles way cheaper and learn my style with Citizen Eco-drives and such. I came to realize I do like higher accuracy quartz and solar watches. I own an Accutron DNA and Longines Conquest VHP alongside Citizen and Bulova 262hz watches. I have a list of mechanical watches I want when money allows from a JLC Polaris, Longines Spirit and Formex watches. No one else I know is like me other than 2 guys at the coffee shop lol

I use a galaxy watch 5 with my SKX007 together on a custom strap i made, the Seiko is on the top of my wrist while the gw5 is on the inside which i find easier to control vs the top anyway. Amusingly it took over a year for any coworkers to notice compared to constantly getting asked i was wearing two watches when i used to wear a Fitbit on my right wrist. I started with a Seiko 5 SNK809 to see if i liked wearing one, it was for a pure utilitarian purpose, to make sure i wasn't down in crawl spaces for too long. I later upgraded to an SKX007 wanting to be confident in its water resistance. Unfortunately after i think 4 months i dropped it on a cement floor from about 5' adjusting the strap, it took a small chunk out of the floor and was horribly out of time afterwards, after a few months of trial and error regulating it i got it to under 1 second deviation which was easy to control - setting it face down overnight would speed it up while face up would reduce. After six years the original movement died which i imagine was from the impact finally catching up to it, i upgraded to an NH36 movement along with some other modifications such as a red ar sapphire lens that i still haven't been able to scratch.

@@NoBaconForYou You're absolutely right, the smart watch does everything I need from a utility stand point and I do kinda use it more for that function than the traditional watch anymore. For me it's simply that I enjoy wearing my Seiko that I've worn for years and rebuilt myself. I use the Seiko for time and day/date, my GW5 I don't use for time at all, it's strictly for media, messages, pedometer and sleep tracking, it's essentially a Fitbit on steroids. When I was making the strap it did feel kind of pointless 😂, but I figured why not, it was a replacement for my Fitbit which I could never figure out a comfortable way to wear on the same wrist anyway.

People interested in a fitness watch aren't interested in traditional watches. I had smart watches before the fruity watch and before Android wear. Those were good. The batteries were replaceable and they lasted a week on a single charge. Now they don't have replaceable batteries and they last 2 days if you're lucky. I hated the day after spending the night at my girlfriend's place because I'd have a dead watch on the way home or worse; when going to work. Even though the charger is in the bag the watch doesn't exist in my brain for various reasons. This experience sent me straight back to real watches. Nobody needs to "upgrade". I collect watches since around 2007. Bought over 180 watches between 40 and 1,400€. The ones I wear most are around 200€ maybe. Honestly, I wouldn’t replace my Apple Watch ever. I love mechanical watches and I own one but people who like/buy Apple Watches are looking for connectivity features so it’s not a fair comparison. At the end of the day, both are very different products. But for the sake of this video, I’d probably choose the Ti Citizen watch. It is an absolute beauty!

Not sure about your region but in the UK, you can usually pick up a Tissot Gentleman Powermatic for less than £800 (Apple Watch Ultra price) or the quartz version for under £400 (Apple Watch 10 price)

Auto Hamilton hits the perfect relatively discrete but high end feel, looks awesome and i'd daily drive that thing with a stainless steel strap no doubt.

I wear a either a Seiko 5 sports or a Bulova Hack Veterans Watchmaking Initiative edition. Good and simple automatic watches, the Seiko has Arabic weekdays. That Timex looks nice!

The Hamilton Khaki is timeless. There are also a bunch of other options you can get for well under $1000 once discounted. An automatic Tissot PRX, a Bulova Lunar Pilot, a Certina DS Action Diver 38 Titanium, a mechanical Junghans Max Bill, to name a few.

... but then again, what isn't? Apple makes a redundant consumer electronics product worn on the wrist. They do NOT make a watch.

As a nice alternative to the Hamilton Khaki Auto watch, I definitely recommend the Casio MRW-200h. It has an almost identical dial, a silicone strap, a double-sided rotating bezel, and you can get it at a much more affordable price.

From a far I love the Hamilton Khaki 38, but don't have it in my collection as I would have too much overlap. I own the Sinn 556, Seiko Sarb033 and the Hamilton Cooper just to name a few. But maybe one day I will have to try one out! Great Video Max and thanks for all your terrific content over the years!

Any watch is better than an Apple watch, irrespective of the price point. Apple watch is a gadget, whereas, a proper watch is a beautiful piece of jewelry.

My first watch as a teenager was a Timex back in the early 1960s. It is still my go to watch when I travel.

Timex was the first watch I ever bought and really got me into appreciating watches. Though I kinda don't like hearing the tick sound of their quartz ones.

I have both. Bought a previous gen citizen watch on sale for $85 and a lightly used Apple Watch for $40. Honestly I wear the Apple Watch more just because it’s more convenient as an extension of my phone. I always look at my wrist to check the temperature when I’m wearing then citizen watch, only to be disappointed! 😅But I still enjoy wearing the citizen watch for certain occasions.

Timex is a fantastic brand. Received a 60$ Timex back in 2014 for Easter as a gift, battery went dead this year. They stand the test of time. My favorite brands are those, Invicta, Bulova, and Stührling Original.

I just use a plain jane T80 Timex watch head with leather straps, for 80 dollars. Stopwatch, alarm and digital clock that lights up in the dark by a button. Stylish, sleek and simple watches like that can universally go on any outfit. These are just vanity watches
