I’m in awe of the actress. I have no idea where a 20 something year old girl in the modern age goes to draw inspiration to produce such a performance. She does it in a way that the viewer can ONLY believe that Sophie Scholl faced the ferocious might of the third reich with the courage and the dignity and the righteousness that almost only exists in poetry.

The executioner of the Scholl siblings and Probst, Johann Reichhart, kept a ledger on all his executions - 3165 (about a third during the Weimar Republic) - making him the second "highest-ranking" hatchetman after Soviet Major General Vaili Blokhin. He even executed high-ranking Nazis while being on the Allies´ payroll and when in the early 1960s reintroduction of death penalty in Germany was briefly discussed (a mass murderer was at large) he was the most ardent supporter.
