Your background is, and will serve you well with this project Scott. You always seem to be asking the right questions before anything becomes a real problem. It's impressive.

Scott with regard to components made from wood if they are load bearing then even a single layer of fibreglass and coating of epoxy resin should impart a phenomenal increase to their strength, resilience and durability for a relatively small increase in weight. A local specialist in building and repairing wooden boats gave me a demonstration of the process and the additional strength glass/resin reinforcement can impart to joins is astonishing.

Hey Scott, Re drilling the holes. I saw on another channel somewhere whereby you can buy a long square plastic block in which to pass the tube through to hold it. This would give you come control over holding the tubing steady. Maybe get some square extrusion that you could tap a bolt into to hold it in place whilst you drill the hole in the round extrusion. If I can find the link I will post it here.

Scott, thank you for this build series. As an aspiring AA Nieuport builder, I find these videos very helpful in getting an overview of the process. Love the thought process and all the creative jigs/methods. Well done. Any advice on what tools would be an absolute must for a beginner as I wait on the rudder kit? Thanks!

Thank you. Obviously all you basic handyman tools, good battery drill, debut tools, Clecos and pliers, swagging tool or access to one, cable tension meter or access to one, big bench, holesaws, make up plenty of job blocks, A dozen or so 3/16, 1.16 and 1/8 drill bits with some 12” long ones to. Enjoy the build.

Thanks. Perhaps I should also have rephrased the question to include machinery. It seems that, if one commits to the project, some desktop power tools are in order like a drill press, combo sander and combo grinder for prepping the parts? I’ll keep my question at that since I know I’ll probably figure your a lot if this as I begin! Thanks for your earlier reply!

The spokes can be tightened with a spoke spanner on the rode side of the wheel. Not where the tire goes. Only do each spoke a 1/4 turn at a time and get them even all around. Tip the spoke with the spanner and compare the noise of each to see if they are even.
