Thank you Lukas for these videos of OC. They are tremendous and I so hope this is a long term project to perform the whole of OC. Sorabji has been and continues to be so magnificently served by Jonathan Powell and a few others but more young lions like yourself will only further this wonderful music and when all has been said about Sorabji the music is wonderful and you clearly have a bright future performing it.

Sorabji portends Cecil Taylor, an abstract Jazz pianist. Reminds me of Leo Ornstein also, circa 1920.
1:02 Tribute to Busoni's Fantasia Contrappuntistica. Wondering if you might ever play FC? It's an excellent pairing with OC as it may have partially inspired it.

but i know about all the so call hard to play i dont care about any other type of music when we talk about hard to play, only piano concertos since piano concertos are 40 minutes long and no metter what anybody says will take more effort than a 5 minute song since there are blogs about what is the hardest to play for the piano and theres no question about the sorabji will give you more effort than anything, 4 hours long 12 movments, is insane i found a computer performance on youtube of what you are playing here, if i find the link, ill give it to you, your playing its amazing only a pianist and someone who actually try to play this himself knows the effort that it takes this is EXTREMELY DIFICULT you are very brave that you are playing this so great.

in this last 28 years that i am in relation with the piano i think prokofiev piano concerto no 2 is the very best concerto from the famouse concertos is the hardest and best made in terms of content sorabji is harder than prokofiev no 2 of course will take more effort but if you have enough talent to play rach 3 prokofiev 2 the hardest of bartok or ginastera piano concerto but mainly prokofiev no 2 you can play this, i might give a try to the most interesting part of this concerto or its hardest cadenza but dont think ill learn 4 hours 12 mov concerto dont think so lolllllllll

I am a early 20th century Piano Concerto fan...and I agree all the ones you mentioned are good (why I like them). However, I think the hardest concerto is the Busoni in C-Maj. Also, in the list of the most difficult; shouldn't we add Tchaikovsky in B-Flat?

khlymore joshua Mosessohn For concertos, we can disagree...but we admit both are insanely difficult. For the most difficult piano piece, it's either: 1. Sorabji - Sequentia cyclica super "Dies irae" ex Missa pro defunctis (about 7 hours; MS: 335 A3 pp. 2. Michael Finnissy - The History of Photography in Sound (about 5½ hours; ED: 365 pp.) I have heard Variation 10 from #1.....Johnathan Powell is claimed to have played the whole work in public...but no recording exists yet. He had the entire 8+ hour work played on European radio at one time last year -- I ONLY WISH .... :-)

Good for you. As for myself, I much prefer something with a tune, melody and a hook. I think its no coincidence that the music of the great composers of the past is played so often whereas much of Modern Classical rarely gets played after their first performances despite much promoting. It's purely down to what people find pleasant to listen to. Modern art is much the same.e.g Tracey Emin, fawning sponsors for a lack of talent artist who produces childlike scribbles which people pay fortunes for. For myself, I think much of it comes down to just a pure lack of talent. To name just a few ones I never get tired of listening to..Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Beethoven, Vivaldi and many more of those eras, plus in the 20th century, Elgar, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin Rhapsody in blue. Here is Vivaldi Four Seasons updated, love it and Sayaka Shoji just happens to be one of my favourite modern violinists.

@@crowing3886 Sorabji had no skill in making music. You can tell from every piece that he composed. There's no coherence in this whole awkward melody he just put together. All Sorabji did was bushing at a piano and out of the random write down some cords and variations all in a score so others can taste the awkwardness of his so called "Talent". Just explain to me what makes you say that this nothingness is awesome and I'll accept it.

@@tg4q391 music is subjective is the only answer you need. You hate it. I love it. Like i said. People said worse about the rite of spring an that piece was ahead of it's time. I don't need you to accept anything. You can't be shown or explained something as music if you don't like what you hear. Me personally I love his work. Even his more in depth works. Like a atonal color spectrum of debussy mixed with Stravinsky. Its like a lapse in judgment in musical form if that makes sense. Not everything unique sounds great to some people but that's fine. I'll love it regardless. I mean his nocturnes for piano are much more tame an held back. Do you not like those either?
