Hi Sorastro. Painting noob here. What does NMM mean ? Also, are you using any primer in this paint work ?
@Sorastro
10 ай бұрын
Hi! NMM means "non-metallic metal" which is just a style of painting where we create metallic effects using non-metallic paints. 🙂 I'm not sure I understand your second question, but I primed the figure in black with the airbrush 😀

Actually, you absolutely can follow along. I started following Sorastro to learn to paint Descent 2nd Edition minis, then Imperial Assault. Now I'm following his Kingdom Death Monster guides. Before all that I had never painted a mini in my life. Just follow along and do your best. If there is a part that is clearly beyond your skill level just revert to what you know. For example I'm not too interested in painting non-Metalic metal like the Axe head. So when I paint this, it will be the tried and true, Leadbelcher > Nulon Oil > Ironbreaker > Stormhost silver version. But all the hair, and everything else I'm willing to give it a go. Sorastro's videos are so detailed, all you need to do is pause and rewatch. Follow him stroke for stroke.

Thanks for this! I do feel that 90% of how far we develop as a painter is down to our mental attitude, and not being afraid to try new things (and to fail!) and push ourselves beyond our abilities.. 🙂

Oh don't get me wrong, this is an amazing video. My comment was mostly set up to compliment the skill and laugh at my own lack of skill, nothing more. As for the video, I think the structure is also one of the best I've seen to follow along and pick up on how to have similar results. @@Sorastro

How do you approach painting bosses in terms of spoilers? Do you paint them before starting the campaign with your friends and therefore spoil the reveal for yourself, or do you play the game with unpainted bosses to avoid spoilers?

Great video. Thanks for the wonderful job you’re doing! Quick question: do you varnish miniatures like this one and could you recommend a nice Matt varnish? I was using testors dullcote but I think they changed a formula or something cause it turns out satin at best, definitely not Matt. I’ve tried 3 different cans, shaking them like crazy, good temperature etc. nothing helps.

It's one thing to watch you work and learn from your techniques but another thing entirely to determine what colours to use and what proportions to mix those colours in. How on earth do you decide to mix paint A with paint B? Many of your choices are not in the least bit obvious to me. To use 16 different paints for one miniature leaves me gasping! I guess that's why you're teaching and I'm learning. Excellent work, as always.
