Wow, there were so many things I didn't expect in this episode; adding purple to the red hair, using a de-saturated green to boost skin highlights, and the trick of using a yellow to boost luminosity on the white apron. I feel like I've learned more from watching these tutorials than I have in a long time.

This is indeed a dynamic miniature, I like the look on her face, and that hair gradient is Legit. I'm learning a lot about colors and blending them from your videos--I'd have never thought to use bright yellow to brighten up an ivory toned white like you do here. Nicely done!

@Kapouille

Hi Sorastro. You seem to often mention that pure white is chalky and for that reason when glazing and blending, you use ivory. I can't remember if I mentioned it but using artist grade heavy body titanium white (the ones in tubes, like Winsor and Newton's, or Golden's for instance) on a wet palette is a game changer. It's superbly smooth and has a long drying time which allows one to work the paint.
@Sorastro
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kapouille! Thanks for the tip. I do actually have the Schmincke Titanium White and I agree it is nice to use. I've been hesitant to use it in the videos however as I suspect it's not a paint that most of my viewers will have in their collection, but I think I will have to make the switch at some point. :)
@Kapouille
7 жыл бұрын
You will not regret it... and neither will your viewers :) It *is*, however, a bit of an investment, as a tube costs a bit, given its size - which would last a lifetime. So not something beginners may want to grab straight away, but it could be attractive to intermediate painters that know they want to get more painting done in the future!

Hi! Awesome work as always. You are my gold standard for tutorials. Something I've always wondered, and apologies if you have addressed this elsewhere, but what treatment do you give to the underside of flowing fabrics like the skirt and apron on Nelly here? Just leave it in the original base spray color, paint it in the base layer color, paint it black or Grey? Thanks. :)
@Sorastro
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Andy! It depends but usually if I'm working over a zenithal prime then the undersides of those areas will be pretty much black and can be left alone. Otherwise they may need neatening with some black or dark grey :)

Nice ideas with colours, like adding green to the skin and yellow to the white (to make it look more white :D). I was just wondering if you let the previous coat dry before applying the next one while painting the apron and the skirt or was the paint still wet for the damp brush to work?
@Sorastro
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes I've been working hard on pushing my colours more lately :) When highlighting I usually let the previous layer dry before going over it with the next, but I do sometimes use a damp brush to feather the edges of a layer whilst it's still wet to help achieve a smoother transition :)

When you are painting the dress and corset is the expectation that the zenithal priming will not be showing through? If that is the case, with a large potion of the miniature being the dress and the corset is the zenithal priming only for the hair and white cloth areas?
@Sorastro
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Parker! The zenithal pre-shade is helpful for a number of reasons, and I'm planning to address it in a separate video soon. For example - irregardless of how much of it still shows through for areas like the dress, it saved me having to paint any of the shadowed underside of the dress, whilst giving me a nice bright top surface to work on. :)
