Raise your hand if you organize by country. I organize by country. That is how I like it. It is better that way.

I am sorting it that way first but plan to do it by topic, just how I like it, I think it would be better that way. It's not someone's gonna bust through your window and slap you in the face if you don't sort it like that. I have a little folded up note stating the country year and emission at least. I am hyped to get a new big ol bag 'o cool colored sticky paper bits!

Still working on organizing? Depding how well you knew him and the way his mind worked, you may be able to find some patterns in the oganization. If there are ones you are just not liking, the cool part is you can just sell them and never see them again! Well, that is, until you do.

I think if I were a stamp collector I would first sort by country and then sort them by date. It seems like the most logical way to sort, but I would imagine it could be difficult to identify the origins of certain stamps. I really want to get into stamp collecting again. I had an amateur collection as a child and it brought me joy.

Hi Jordan, that is definitely one way to collect, there are so many other ways to approach a collection (topic, time period..etc) Definitely consider getting back into philately, this channel can help you. Check out top 10 topics to collect: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qWxqqYt3kqJyano and for fun check out the Apollo 15 mission for an example of how fascinating the hobby can be: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2qihv5N-e2aLhm0

I organize by country first, then with the help of a Scott catalog, which may be out dated, I organize in Scott order. When I add a stamp to my collection, I mark it in the catalog so I know what I have. If it is unlisted, or issued later than the catalog, I estimate where it might belong.

Hi Willard! I was introduced back to using stamps to ship used books since the ones I had picked up were not reselling for a lot of value, I believe I made the correct choice to start utilizing stamps for shipping out items I sell online....Do you ever check the column in the catalog for price?

Ok, I'm one of the boring guys that organize by country. Truth is I love nothing better than just having a giant pile of stamps in front of me to organize by country. I keep all the return envelopes I get in junk mail and bills and use them to hold stamps by country. I have a large box I then store the envelopes by the first letter of the country name - A countries together, B countries together so on and so forth. When these envelopes get too stuffed I then have other boxes categorized by region or continent or whatever. Bottom line is you can do whatever you want - cause that's what stamp collecting is all about! Hey, really appreciate your angle on stamp collecting. Ever thought about a video talking about the different stamp albums you can use? Custom Album pages are kinda popular.

Absolutely! Organize the way you want and most importantly, enjoy it! There really is nothing better then a pile of stamps to soak and organize. Yes I plan on covering some aspects such as tools and albums to consider, part of my list of upcoming videos 😀

I don't like putting my stamps in boxes without one of those moisture absorbers found in medicine bottles.

Thats a good idea! You will definitely want to avoid stamps from sticking to each other or to the box itself. good thinking!
@DoubleMrE

Just make sure you use brand new ones. The ones you take out of a medicine bottle are no good after you open the bottle as they quickly get fully saturated with moisture from the atmosphere.

Do you think it’s a good idea to first sort by country then extend your collection by topical collecting stamps
@ExploringStamps
5 жыл бұрын
That is certainly one way to do it. While you are sorting by country, you may get the idea of what topics interest you, and then decide to go back and pick out the stamps with that topic. :)
