As a romance-favorable arospec Koito is VERY relatable to me so far. Really wanting to feel like stories describe but just not being able to, okay with romantic actions but not fully getting the emotions behind them.

Aro here too, and I'm glad that bloom into you is uniting people like us with this story. I thought I would always dislike romance stories because of how alienated I felt when characters fell in love, but understanding that I'm aro and feel love vastly differently from others made me feel like I'm valid, and that there are people like me around, even if it's rare

The scene where Koito said she felt nothing when Touko kissed her hit me. I think she feels betrayed as well as isolated that no one will be able to relate to her situation of not being able to fall in love. I'm glad you mentioned the first person perspective shots. Makoto Katou uses it in most of his works as a director. Also, in an interview he mentioned how he uses flower motifs to express the emotions of the characters.

They did "Stage Reading: Regarding Saeki Sayaka" on the spin-off novels a little under three years ago, and it was amazing. The Japanese fans wanted to see at least a portion of the Sayaka from those novels in "Bloom Into You: The Play Encore" last December, but it got too long so they couldn't do it. So there has been a call for a full play of "Regarding Saeki Sayaka." I don't know if it's going to happen, but from the reaction of the fans (esp. the final night of "Encore" play), there is demand for one.

The creative liberties the production team took to really emphasize what each character is feeling in the moment are stunning. In particular my heart just drops the moment you see the light leave Koito's eyes when she realizes Nanami has actually fallen for her. Seeing everything go to greyscale and just fill with static conveys so much about the horror, disappointment, and betrayal she's experiencing. Of course I'm sad we'll probably never see a season 2 of this but I'm so grateful for all the love and care that was put into making this adaptation something special.

I once heard an interview of the director, Makoto Kato, and he said that there isn't a single cut in this anime that does not carry a meaning or message of some kind, including the opening credit (90 seconds being jam-packed with signs, symbolisms and innuendos).

This romance is unique af. The MC is NOT some love sick or love craving JK, wanting the typical things, regardless of their own beliefs. Many Ace/Aro folks got a look of thoughts from this anime. I just adore yuri.

Every time I rewatch the show, reread the manga, watch reactions to it or just clips of it, that scene with the first kiss at the railroad crossing always manages to catch me off guard and completely flash me, just because of just how real it feels, this is the kinda stuff we did back then and it's giving me so much sense of nostalgia too Been rereading the manga again after your reaction to episode 1 and I’m reminded over and over again why this one is special almost every chapter

It makes me kinda sad too but a lot of people outside the queer community don't even know about aromanticism and even fewer know of the feelings & struggles that go along with it. I've even seen some queer alloromantic people not pick up on that on the first watch of this show. I'm hopeful that maybe the bros might see it more once Maki's storyline is introduced tho.

Of course they’re mature - even if you go into this show thinking it’s just gonna be cute Yuri stuff, it slaps you pretty quickly with the reality that it’s a MUCH more interesting love story than just that. Legitimately better than 90% of romance media in general. That this series didn’t get a season 2 is darn crime.

Wow, this is actually crazy how deep you two are getting into the character's personality on only episode two. Especially with the analysis of Touko, how she wears a mask, and how she doesn't play fair and is manipulative in some way. Touko's personality is a main driver of the series, but is mostly hidden from the audiance until much later down the line due to the the story being told from Yuu's POV. I only recognized how those traits of Touko is hinted very early on in the series upon a second rewatching, when I already know the later plots. The fact you two are able to catch on to them now is actually really impressive, and shows incredible attention to detail as audiences.

Quickly remembering why I adore this anime so much - full of LGBTQ+ themes, and yet no fetishisation, no slacking on the story, and the characters are interesting enough that they actually generate their own drama instead of relying on played out tropes. Yuri aside, it’s probably one of the better pieces of romance fiction just… In general, and certainly in anime, and probably one of my favourite pieces of LGBTQ+ rep for being a fucking great story that just so happens to also have been the thing that clued me into my own Aro/ Ace feelings. Very special to me and I’m so glad it’s being picked up by a pair of my favourite reactors all these years later to remind me.

This was a great analysis, though i do think it's a little unfair to say koito doesn't understand her own feelings, since i think she definitely knows she's not feeling anything. I'm watching the anime for the first time along side these reactions, so i'm not certain, but i have been getting the vibe that she is on the aromantic spectrum.

@keblelbek3685 aromanticism is a spectrum, as the original comment says. Some aro people get in romantic relationships despite not having romantic feelings, while others may be demiromantic or grayromantic and experience some romantic attraction but very very rarely and often not in the same ways as non-aro person

One thing we have to remember is that Yuu Koito is 15 years old (and Touko Nanami is only 46 days older than Yuu, though she is a grade higher in school). Yuu says she does not feel anything, but it is possible that at this age she may be feeling something but does not have a way to characterize it. And not being able to put a finger on it may have made Yuu say "I am not feeling anything" (meaning "I am not feeling anything that I can understand and describe). I think that this is a point that Caleb was making and I myself have long felt is the case with Yuu.

I am so glad and grateful that you guys are doing the "React" on Bloom Into You, which is one of my favorite manga, anime, and live plays (see below) of all time. I am looking forward to this journey of (for me) rewatching this lovely show. As you know, this anime did not go beyond Cours 1, with the manga still ongoing at the show's conclusion. There has been a set of three fantastic live-action Bloom Into You plays, the final production of which took place last December and took the Bloom Into You story through to the end (except for the very end of the manga where the characters are in college). These plays (actually one was a stage reading due to COVID-19 being in full swing then, but it was the most elaborate stage reading I have ever seen) were very well-produced and given much love by the actors, production staff and enthusiastic fans. The DVDs/Blu-Rays are available, though not with English subtitles. If you know the story, you will be able to follow without any problem because these live action plays are very faithful to the Bloom Into You original storyline. I hope that someday you will have a chance to see these stage productions of Bloom Into You via the discs.

I don't know if it's because i'm aroace but personally, if a person i still consider a "new friend" would kiss me like that, it would be difficult for me to fully trust them again. For one I don't really understand the appeal for kissing and if it's not even consensual then you're just invading my personnal space at this point.
