He wrote this song about his severe depression, I also think the song is about addiction, but just didn’t come out and say that. Back in the 90’s talking about drug use/addiction was taboo, it’s just now becoming acceptable to society to openly talk about it. I’m glad they used the video they used though, they actually found a lot of the kids from the video being played worldwide.

Retrospectively this applies to a friend I had at school whose parents threw him out due to him being bisexual. I hid him in my room and my mum found out and fostered him, my dad just had to go along with it. Funny thing is he turned out to be the son my dad wanted instead of the one he had.

@Dermacrosis
3 жыл бұрын
@@guesswhat-chickenbutt It wasn't an ended up like that to me, I noticed it long before that happened, say 6 or 7. My dad was always great with kids as long as I wasn't the kid in question. I wasn't the "normal" kid he dreamed of, though he shouldn't have been surprised given I inherited the condition that goes down the first born son of the first born son line. On the upside it ends with me as I will never have kids. My friend was into all the things my dad was into and didn't have my health problems, that is why he was the son my dad wished he had. I was not jealous as I was used to my dad being great with kids that weren't me by then. I understand where your sympathy is coming from so please do not think I am trying to lessen it, and it is appreciated as I wish my dad liked me but I am just not willing to waste time or emotional energy on him anymore. I made that choice for my own mental well being 20 years ago. I can now comment in that area without it causing me pain.

I'm sure the lyrics of this song are about drug addiction - specifically, opioids (most likely heroin). Of course, everyone can have their own interpretation, but believe me, the meaning is obvious to me because I have been immersed in this addiction (opioids) for 15 years. When I listen to this, tears come to my eyes. Greetings from sunny Poland.

You know this popped up while I was randomly listening to music and I thought "wow I wonder if they ever found any of those kids?" Twenty one! They found 21 of those kids out of 36. That's one of the most amazing things I've ever heard and they should get a lot of credit for that.

Call you up in the middle of the night Like a firefly without a light You were there like a blowtorch burning I was a key that could use a little turning So tired that I couldn't even sleep So many secrets I couldn't keep Promised myself I wouldn't weep One more promise I couldn't keep It seems no one can help me now I'm in too deep There's no way out This time I have really lead myself astray Runaway train never going back Wrong way on a one-way track Seems like I should be getting somewhere Somehow I'm neither here nor there Can you help me remember how to smile? Make it somehow all seem worthwhile How on earth did I get so jaded? Life's mysteries seem so faded I can go where no one else can go I know what no one else knows Here I am, just drowning in the rain With a ticket for a runaway train And everything seems cut and dry Day and night Earth and sky Somehow I just don't believe it Runaway train never going back Wrong way on a one-way track Seems like I should be getting somewhere Somehow I'm neither here nor there Bought a ticket for a runaway train Like a madman laughing at the rain A little out of touch, a little insane It's just easier than dealing with the pain Runaway train never going back Wrong way on a one-way track Seems like I should be getting somewhere Somehow I'm neither here nor there Runaway train never coming back Runaway train tearing up the track Runaway train burning in my veins I run away but it always seems the same

My little brother just died 4 weeks ago at age 35. He always tried to run away from himself. In his last days, he was lost, stressed, depressed, suffering from anxiety, and without even being able to sleep more than 2 or 3 hours per night. Then he just colapsed and had a heart attack. Now you're free, hermanito. Go in peace. I will forever love you. You will always be my little brother! ❤

As a runaway at the age of 15, this song means so much to me even all these years later. I was unbelievably lucky and was able to build a life for myself and have a wonderful family and job. I know how horribly wrong it could have all gone so I am grateful every single day to be here now. Every time I hear this song, I cry for those who are still out there.

Well, a lot of those kids run away from home because they have parents who have failed them, abused them, and then some end up dead on the streets. The song speaks very poignantly to the anguish such kids feel. They are desperate and want to escape. The person escapes the home, but becomes aimless. The escape looked attractive, like a nice promise, but it didn't deliver. I guess that's what I took from the song. I am sure your parents are very lucky to have you.

This song is so bittersweet for me. I first heard the song on the radio in the middle of a particularly rough night when I was 17 and being treated in hospital for depression. I got the CD as soon as I was able to find the name of the song and it was my stable comfort song for so many years while I was in treatment.
