just wanted to say as a psychology student you've confused what negative reinforcement is with punishment. Punishment adds a negative (bad) thing to stop the action being repeated. Negative reinforcement has the same affect as positive reinforcement (continuing/ rewarding behaviour) but it is from the removal of a bad stimulus to create pleasure.

Hi Amelia, I'm not sure what I say in the video but yes that is what negative reinforcement means so thanks for clarifying 😊

If I got a question on materialism is there any specific philosopher I should mention in my AO1 paragraph? Since Aristotle isn’t a materialist or should I still mention him because his views are more materialist then Plato’s?

for interactionism would it make sense to mention Phineas cage. a huge head injury completely changed his personality and moral outlook on life (thus his soul?) or is that a bit far fetched
@IThinkThereforeITeach

No I quite like that as a point of consideration then use a scientist to say how it was pre frontal.damsge and thus physical not the soul -hope that makes sense :)

love ur vids How does behaviourism link to soul mind body? sorry im a bit confused
@IThinkThereforeITeach
Жыл бұрын
Really pleased my videos are helping :) behaviourism is the idea that your mind can be influenced with bodily reactions. So little Albert was scared of the loud noise (physical/body) but this then affected how he saw a rat (mind) showing that the body/mind are connected and not seperate. Hope that makes sense ☺️ good luck with your revision.

Is it ok to use the terms mind and soul interchangeably (for example when descartes was describing the mind/body). I’m still confused as to whether they are distinct.
@IThinkThereforeITeach
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ru, great question! At a higher level mind and soul are different but at this level I think it is okay to consider them similar. Plato speaks more of a soul for example and Descartes talks more of mind. Soul implies an afterlife whereas mind is something that can be distinct from the body, considered separately, in this life so in the case of Descartes he is talking about the mind driving the body. I wouldn't get too bogged down with the terms, as it is a bit of a Pandora's box so I would just follow the teach along. Wider research is always recommended though if it is an area you would like to understand deeper...it was always one of my favourite philosophical areas when I was studying:)

Are mind/soul almost interchangeable? Just as for Descartes he seems to be talking about the mind and the body, but Ryle's criticism is about the soul and the body. Thanks :)
@IThinkThereforeITeach
3 ай бұрын
Great question Chloe, at this level I wouldn’t worry too much about the nuances between soul/mind, you will not lose marks if you interchange them. Generally Descartes speaks of the mind but he is talking about a separation from body, so the criticism from Ryle works. If you get a Q on soul you can mention any areas from this topic, similarly if the question is on mind you can link it to all sections - just make sure you always use the words in the question :)
