Most of the dancers did not wear wig pieces. In fact, the earlier shows were during a time when the Afro was popular.

This is why people in other places couldn't believe that LA had gangs... Cause you'd watch these kids on Soul Train and think that California was just such a happy 😊 and sunny place 🌞 with these brothers high kicking and dancing all wild with big Jehri curls and stuff.. 🤣 LOL... Fun times on a Saturday morning.

My friend's oldest sister, who was a lot older than us at the time, used to sing "I love Carlito!" about her boyfriend to the chorus of this song. Long story short, they're still together all these years later.

Love this since the first time I heard it at very near graduating Binghamton University. Quincy, you're a genius, yet now that 43 years have come and gone with this song, it's time to better capitalize on it. Think, 'I love Velveeta,' or 'Ryvita' or 'Belvita' or the like. No joke.

0:51 to 1:00 is one of the funniest moments in the show, homeboy with the red pants leaps into the shot, dances and leaves the shot with a grin, then dude in the white shirt is dancing like a moron half voguing his moves, then the best is the dude in with the green shirt, glitter belt and black pants...he is having the time of his life in his own crazy little world.

Are we permitted to enquire, in this day and age of equality, where the white people are??!! It would definitely be asked if it was the other way round! My wife pointed this out as she is not old enough to remember this programme. Fair’s fair in looking at historic “equality/racism”, especially as this was aimed at the ethnic audience. What did we miss out on? Fabulous song and she thought the outfits and moves were hilarious- so did I as it’s very “of the era”!

Briefly, Soul Train was created to counter American Bandstand, which was mainly white. Bandstand then had more dancers of color after Soul Train started and Soul Train had some dancers who were not people of color. I appreciated both Soul Train and Bandstand for what they were.
@Idcanymore510

The 'white people' were on American Bandstand and at that time would not really frequent spaces where the people were predominantly 'ethnic' (whatever that means). Those were the times. As for the 'other way round', would you be posing this same debate if you were watching a show, any show, where the audience was predominantly white? Would it occur to you to ask 'where are the (ethnics) people of colour? Therein lies your answer.
