Today marks a month since the departure of my dear mother. She was not only a mom to 6 of her own children, but she always embraced my friends & community as her own as we travelled and explored this incredible planet. I am so grateful we had the opportunity to discover so many amazing places and cultures through the years. A true blessing (especially with the times we are living in now).
My mother was always curious and would join me (along with my father) on many adventures around the world. One of the most memorable trips I shared with her was a trip down to Guatemala (before smart phones). We spent 10 days overlooking Lake Atitlan soaking up the Bhakti bliss wisdom of music, kirtan, yoga and community with Jai Uttal and Nubia Teixeira. It was both of our first kirtan camps and such a special time to share with my mother. One of our projects during the week was to choose a deity and write a melody to sing with the mantra. We chose the Goddess Saraswati and as my friend, Shoshana Kuttner, said, "Your mother helped to midwife that song."
I truly believe that 14 years ago on Lake Atitlan, the Devi Saraswati came through my mom and gave me a song to sing, chant and share with the world. I literally have led 1000's of kirtan gatherings around the world singing that song in multiple languages since that first seed was planted. I know in my heart and in my soul that my mom was always with me and will continue to be with me to share the essence of the Universal Mother. She has embraced so many beings through her easeful way of nurturing and being kind and caring no matter what background, status or culture.
Thank you to each and every one of you who have reached out to offer your condolences and healing thoughts. I know my mom is being blanketed by your love, light and prayers from around the globe.
She truly is a blessing to us all.
Thank you, Gracias, Arigato, Mahalo, Doje, Xie Xie, Terima Kasih... and in so many more languages...
