@@NeZversSounds it's funny, when rogue-likes first became popular (or more popular that I started hearing about them) I thought they sounded dumb, playing the same thing over and over...then i played Risk of Rain 2 and that was it for me. Now they are most of the games I play...those and, I guess, construction/management/survival games like Rimworld

I love that these games are actually starting to look like they've got a good amount of effort and polish put into them, but this one still has some ways to go as far as visibility goes. It gets a bit too hectic and busy for its own good.

It would be interesting, that Vampire Survivors just gives birth to a new genre of games. It was a passion project and gained more love, than some high-budget games. Seeing it succeed and reach legendary status is something I would be happy to see.

Another Awesome choice Splat! SoulStone Survivors feels great, which is especially impressive given that it is still a demo at this point. I played it for 2hours, then streamed it for another hour, yep, it is good. Beyond its look, and fun and flashy abilities, the most interesting thing about SoulStone Survivors for me is the collision. Meaning, all the monsters have a physical presence in the world, and can physically block your movement. And the different characters you can unlock, all have different stats, not just things like HP, damage resistance, damage modifier, and movement speed, but also stuff like +1 to dash count, and even more interesting stuff like ”Body Mass”, which is how easily that character can displace the masses of the swarming monster hordes trying to tear you apart. And the hordes are Big here! For a class with low body mass, if the teeming monster hordes manage to box you in, it could be all over, though the beefier class types will perhaps be able to burst free, physically pushing past the monsters to escape! Cool! Back Yo Ass Up Monster! HERO Coming Through! :) However, the archer is faster and has a bonus dash, so they are less likely to be caught by the monster maneuvers. It is a very interesting system, and adds real “weight” to the monster collisions. There is destructible terrain too, which you can use to absorb hits from enemies, until it is destroyed. From what I’ve seen, the dodge in Soulstone Survivors does not actually disable collision; it just tries to slide you past and between the surrounding enemies, as I have lost an archer due to her lower body mass when boxed in by the hungry hordes. She just didn’t have the raw bulk to push through :( Smashed down from 60hp to nothing because she couldn’t get away; it’s good though, as she is high damage, high dodge, high risk, high reward; just don’t get caught. I think Soulstone Survivors absolutely NAILED making each character feel different, both in their raw stats, and in how they play. Soulstone Survivors is good! Thank you for all your hard work giving good games some well deserved visibility.

But the fact that they hide so much of the content instead of just blocking it so people could see what their ambition is etc is not reassuring at all and so if the runes suks or are boring and that skill tree is just that tiny it would be a waste and lame.

There's a game for a phone that I found recently called endless waves survival, it's an interesting version of this genre and whereas you don't lose your upgrades when you die. You just play continuously but if you don't upgrade your stuff right, you won't be able to progress as a certain point so you have to start over. it's kinda limited in the fact you only have one character, but you get 10 stat points every level, which you can either use separately to upgrade stats or all ten at once to upgrade a skill which has ten levels and every 5 will give you a special boost, you get coins that you can use to buy items which can boost your stats by a percentage or heal you, refund your stats, skills, items, etc. Overall a decently fun magic survival clone.

The Doom is a really good looking skill with this build as whenever it is reset, the damage increases, so if it resets 20 times, the damage is 20x, which is great for bosses :D

Agreed; SoulStone Survivors is good. I’d watch Splat play this some more. Now, I’m not Splat, but if you NEED more SoulStone Survivors RIGHT NOW, I have an hour or so video up, playing with both the wizard, and with the warrior. In my own recorded experiences in Soulstone Survivors, I greatly enjoyed all 3 of the unlockable characters currently in the demo, as they all felt very different to play, though I most like the swordsman. As the combination of high hp, high body mass to physically displace smaller monsters, and focus on melee damage really pushes you to engage with the hungry horde head on, and smash them to nasty monster bits with your sword, all while dodging, dashing, and weaving in between the advancing monster legions! So fun, and so good! Take a look if you like, you might like.

Picked this up a few days ago and have been thoroughly enjoying it. Lot's of fun build choices and I haven't even started trying out the other characters. Excited to play more. I actually don't mind the visual noise as much as I thought and with headphones the soundtrack sounds great.

I don't usually go for games capitalizing on others ideas, but this definitely improved upon Vampire Survivors. Visually, variety, audio (I agree, it needs pachinko noises for pickups), depth... Got a love/hate thing going on with your channel man, great content but my wallet hates you.

With these types of games, the best way to do level progression is to increase xp requirements additively. If they increase the required xp by a percentage it can make the later levels way too much of a grind. Just like compounding interest can snowball out of control.

We increase it by a small percentage, but you get more and more powerful enemies later on, so we expect level ups to start slowing down at 40 give or take, but getting to level 60 should still be fairly normal depending on the build, but it is meant to kind of stop you on your tracks at some point =)

This looks really nice! First VampSurvivor-like game that I think I might actually play (after all the hours I put into VS). I definitely agree with the visual clutter, especially from the AoE effect indicators, that's preventing me from putting a bunch of time into the demo right now. Also agree with the other points you were making - damage indication, loss of control, indicators, etc. Thanks for the video, hopefully dev(s) take on your pointers and we might have a really cool game on our hands in a few months :) PS: Have you considered being an indie-game development consultant as a side-job to your channel?

This is one to look out for. It has balance and user experience polishing to do, however it is definitely a very interesting update in the whole survivors genre. Melee needs update. At the moment meteors rule to the point of imbalance.

so far my best time to beat the boss`s is 26:05 and i like to play as The Sentinel :) i dont think you can aim at all with The Arcane Weaver it just auto shoots enemy's when they are close and when there is no enemy`s close by then it hits the ore`s :D if you get hit by a explosive barrel guy then you can use dash to change direction mid air so you can get away from danger :)

It seems that currently upgrades only affects the skills you have active when you pick the upgrade, and not transferring to skills acquired after. Not sure if that's intended or not.

This one was fun as a demo. I found myself playing for over an hour. I would like a magnet drop every so often, like in VS. Just a quality of life thing. The fireball barrage looks cool, but you can't see your dude. I did like that blue/red outline on the poison pools that differentiate friendly/foe damage. (otherwise it's all the same green goo hue)

Okay, I have to heavily disapprove of the constant XP jingle in Vampire Survivor. I played it for a long time, and I ended up actually hearing it when trying to sleep. It burned into my memory and I wish I could turn it off completely.

How far they knock u depends on your characters weight and add a good dynamic and reason to pick heavier gear. Once you leanr to target the shamans first then the unibombers ur life gets easier.

The game has potential but it needs a lot of work atm from what I've seen in this video. Compared to Vampire Survivors, you get a lot of exp fast at the start which imho is a bit much, and jus like Splatter said it's too much AoE, it does need some indicators to where pick ups are or a mini map. Edit: Also, for me personally, I do not like games where I can't see what the fuck is happening on the screen.

Agreed, every enemy has a delayed action too, which means more hitboxes on the ground. When you cannot see shit, the game plays you.

You get a lot of exp fast at the start of this game, are you joking, in Vampire Survivors if you use the right skills you can get your level over 200, in Soulstone Survivors even with maxed out exp gain, the Arcane Weaver's exp modifier and the exp passive skill when you level up the best you can do is level 60

The people who made this game literally made 2 versions of it... One 3d and one 2d. The 3d version is called Rogue Soulstone. It is literally the same game with slight changes, which make it a lot more awkward and a lot worse. I enjoyed both, but the 2d version is a lot more fleshed out.

Looks nice but way too much particle effects on the screen at once. Meteor shower looked great but obscured half the screen. Plus the magnetic attraction seemed weak given the number of upgrades you pumped into it. Still, lots of potential though.

This game uses the Synthy assets mostly correctly, they all look quite good from an RTS perspective, but close up, not so much. Too many games uses them in like 3rd person shooters and such and it just looks kinda cheap.

Would this not be a roguelite because it has meta progression outside of the gameplay?

this looks very satisfying the visuals and the name bother me a bit cause theyre so generic, but its gameplay and spell feedback look tight

the visuals are literally bought from asset store as a pack from a company called sinty studios and the vfx pack is either theirs or from a similar studio. the whole genre and market saturation of these dumb games is starting to get on my nerves. this will inevitably devaluate the indie scene to the point where it won't remunerate if a dev does not asset-flip in order to make a shallow recycled game in a month, which is crazy, and frankly people who play this don't seem to deserve any better either. there is not a shred of genuine creativity or legit programming or asset creation in this. in other words: OF COURSE EVERYTHING IS GENERIC. maybe even made in some online name generator 30 seconds before they had to upload on Steam and buy a domain, so they ran through dozens of stupid generic names until there was something cheap and unused. if you don't believe me just read some of the comments, and check out the unity asset store. we live through an avalanche of these quick and dirty games. no creativity whatsoever. yet people are oblivious to what's going on. as if there is no longer a difference between an asset flip and a genuine endeavor that took years and a full team. prices man, prices are killing gaming. everybody wants a game for less than $10, there you go, welcome to the junk food of video gaming era.

@@teratoma. brate ovo je hiljadita igra svaka identicna kao prethodna. cinilo se kao zabavan loop pre 16 meseci, i nemam problem da svi jasu taj talas, ali pakao je sto niko ne kapira da gleda u totalni asset flip klon. btw i taj vampire survivors sto je "kao" prvi, ni taj nije prvi, svi su pokrali loop sa nekog hackatona ili ludum darea; ne mogu ni ja sve da ispratim pa ne znam tacno sta je bio original. ove igre izlaze bukvalno na svakih mesec dana, sto znaci da su svi manje vise krenuli u priblizno isto vreme i onda cekaju gap na marketu. vidi, nemam nikakav problem da ljudi prave sta god hoce, ali populacija nema pojma, ne zna niko da napravi razliku -- kad flipujes assete niko ne kapira da si sklepao igru za mesec dana, i onda taj neki sisić dampuje cene, i obrne ludilo na sitno, pa posle ja kao developer mogu da ga duvam jer necu da flipujem jebene assete sa stora, a ne mogu da priustim normalne artiste, jer u beogradu svako autsorsuje za jebeni art bully (internacionalna autsorsing agencija za epic i ea) i slicne agencije i ima platu 2 hiljade evra. samo trazi art bully na linkedinu ili na artstationu, uveri se sam. cela srbija jebeno radi AAA: battlefield, fortnite, cod, you name it, mnogo toga se radi ovde, a nama malima koji nismo u americkim korpovima se i indi scena zatvara. sad ti razmisli malo gde je problem, to odavno vise nije stvar ukusa. mislim ja rantujem, ne pokusavam da te ubedim ni u sta, ali eto da ti objasnim pakao, da ne bude tek tako random misljenje.

@@teratoma. a kao senior programer, insistiram na tome da je ovo sto je uradjeno trivijalno, nema tu nikakve virtuoznosti, osnovni loop se napravi za nedelju dana, max 3 nedelje, a sve sto valja su tudji vfx koje samo spawnuje iz asset packa. nemam nista protiv da je covek cost-effective, nego sto niko ne kapira koliko zaista ulaganja ovde ima u odnosu na neku drugu _legit_ igru. brkaju se pojmovi. kako ja posle da izadjem sa igrom koja izgleda isto ili slicno za $15 (3x vecu cenu), a na kojoj sam radio 6 puta duze i ludje, morao da budem virtuozan i da zaista naucim da modelujem, dizajniram grafiku i gameplay, pravim muziku i jos kojesta.... to se jednostavno ne isplati. i ko gubi? SVI sem ovih oportunista, autsorsing agencija, studija koji stancaju assete i Unityja. a igraci i developeri na duge staze fasuju djoku jebiga.

the whole player CC is the biggest issue in my oppinion... also i dont like the bodyblocks at least with the dash you should be able to dash through the enemies... it can create some very frustrating moments in the game.. it does let you dash trogh the enemys now.... they must have patched that... i will try it right after the video :D EDIT: no, i still have collision when dashing. but it has not created that frustrating moments, maybe i was pushing the monsters more aside when dashing then before. anyway won my fist round (with the sword guy and almost all bolts)

Now you can dash through enemies =P not through scenery though, so you can still "be stopped" while dashing

I think the game needs to improve alot before I'll play it. I think if your gonna go for the floor is lava style of play, you gonna need to let be be able to see it, otherwise it is just gonna piss me off because I died for something other than it being my fault, not because I can't see the red circle on the ground because of particle effects. Also I think the magnetism needs a buff. The maximum buff you got for that run I think should've been you minimum distance you draw in the exp.

For better or for worse hahaha Splattercat here got an extremely lucky and flashy build, definitely the most noisy flame based build with loads of double casts which is very rare to happen haha but we are working on visibility clarity and have already made some changes with more to come. Magnetism can be upgraded in the meta progression by 200% in addition to the in-game power-ups, it can cover basically the whole screen without much effort as you keep going.

This game looks like something I'll sink quite a few hours in,the only part of this game i kinda don't care for is that the char all having the same build/height and I'm not a huge fan of the shadow faces either.
