Nice. The road noise isn't that bad as it just becomes part of the background after a bit...I like it - kind of more personal feeling to the video. What really disappointed me was no Amazon link for the Tesla in the description. :)

@@genjii931 Haha! I actually did add a link for the Tesla: ts.la/curtis26273 So get over there and buy an amazing car (for only about $60K USD) and you'll get free supercharging for 6 months. ;-)

Glad to see you refreshed and back. I can fully understand on having so many devices to review all at once can really overwork you over. Your reviews are very precise and you want to explain as much as possible for those purposes. Being an video device reviewer is not easy because you have to prepare all the information and that must take time and patience. I very much am gaining lots of information on different and very unique products. Keep up with the great work but don’t overwork yourself

A million thanks for this and the rest of your collections of videos. I´ve been learning a lot about audio with them . Now I want to make my own videos, just technical dialogue in front of a Sony FDRAX53 4K videocamera, nice images but bad sound with terrible noise with the built-in mic. So I have to decide between a Oktava MK12 (excellent in your videos) conected to a preamplifier (AMP Tube MP) or a a Sanken Cos 11-D. I can use the preamplifier with the lav or with a recorder as the Zoom H1n, or the H5. I will appreciate your opinio for buying the gear. Thanks again.

Hi Juan, For a permanent setup, the ART Tube MP and Oktava should work nicely as long as your room sounds pretty good. That would be my first choice. The Sanken is often wired for Sennheiser wireless packs and while that will work with Zoom H1n or H5 recorders, they aren't an optimal combination as the Sennheiser wiring scheme is a little difference. In practical terms, you'll end up with a bit more self-noise with the Zoom/Sanken combination. Good luck!

Can you redo this with typical mics used in narrative production...Cos 11D in visor, Cos-11D mounted on body, Shotgun out of frame, Cub on the ceiling.....It would interesting to compare the different locations....Just an idea....

Hi Gregg. Yes, likely. I plan to record more in the car now that it is reasonably do-able.

Great to see you back! About centrance, it would be great if it could double as a headphone amp as well as a recorder. So if you're carrying it with you, you can also use it to drive higher quality headsets.

Thanks Curtis for another great video. I'm wondering though, how are you going from the RODELink Filmmaker Kit into the Mixerface R4R? are you using RODE VXLR+ adapter? or going into channels 3/4?

Hi Dr. Aljonaid, I used the RODE VXLR - the non-plus version - to go into one of the XLR inputs on the Mixerface.

Hope you're feeling more refreshed Curtis. Car audio is interesting. For 'home movies', many great family interactions happen during a journey on the way to a place or home again. Capturing the audio well from multiple people in a car however is a real challenge but can be really rewarding because it's one of those places where the family is really relaxed which can give great footage. I recently played around running and running and instead of just using the shotgun, (Rode Videomicpro+) I also used a cardiod lav on me (Primo EM184) going into a Tascam DR10. The result was a much more even conversation when I spoke from behind the camera and not the usual muffled sound of a shotgun spoken into from the back. So it really does pay to try different Mic setups and take the trouble to mix in post. I also managed to switch from one Mic to the other in say, street conversations with my daughter and you get a lot closer to the video as a result of a more even sounding audio track.

Haha! Thanks Gene. The trick is that I have a day job that takes most of my energy so when I run out of time to put together a thorough review and have to default to a less detailed review, some people aren't happy. I'll just keep doing the best I can with the time I have. Best wishes!

Ok, thanks for the feedback. It enlightened me to know that this combination of recording gear can work for recording in this car. As for thumbnails, if you are offering to take the time to make thumbnails that do.not include my face, I will happily take you up on that offer.
