The only way to make that squash of Lesnar make sense, is Lesnar explain that he underestimated Goldberg and he becomes obsessed with beating Goldberg. And then you can do the match at the Rumble or Mania where Lesnar gets his win finally. I'm happy Goldberg won but as much time as they put into Brock, this buildup has to end with a Lesnar win.

Here's two things I take away from this match: It's not like you can't build Brock up again after this. You can have him come on TV and say something akin to "I became complacent fighting lesser opponents and the one guy who could most take advantage of that weakness did. It WILL NOT happen again". The other thing is, regardless of what the online wrestling fans think, the live crowd LOVED it. So, no, I don't think this was the dumbest thing WWE has ever done. That said, there's got to be behind the scenes stuff going on for this to have happened.

I told my co worker the same thing. Against ANYONE else, last night would've been par for the course. But against Lesnar, all that talk about avenging the loss and considering that match went, what like 12-13 minutes, and all we get is 2 minutes against a man who had been built up as a monster? This was the Seattle-Broncos Super Bowl all over again. Only thing they needed as Bruno Mars to eat up the garbage time.

I couldn't be happier that Goldberg won. I'm sick and tired of fans trying to be bookers these days. "Oh no, this guy shouldn't win, that guy should!" "But there's no storyline consistency!" ... "No, they should get the return on their investment!" ... Honestly, I don't give a crap about any of that. It was an epic moment that took me back to my teenage years, when wrestling still had something magical about it, and when we didn't over-analyze shit. Best moment of the year BY FAR.

The Goldberg win, especially how it was booked, was absolutely fantastic. It was a moment of pure joy, shock, and brought me back to an era of wrestling that I loved. Not being a critic, and remembering when wrestling was in its glory days, I felt like I went back in time. The build of the match was excellent, Goldberg looked like a monster, not a has-been. That's why it worked for me. The ONLY guy who could've made this finish look legit was Goldberg. That's his character. A legit super hero. If he didn't physically look the way he does, it would've been ridiculous. But he looks like the machine who walked away years ago, only because he wanted to stop, not because he couldn't do it. This loss takes the pressure off who they choose to beat Brock next, since now he's been pinned, plus it doesn't diminish Brock, whatsoever. He lost, but he lost to, in the wrestling world, basically a mythical legend, who still looks incredible. WWE can now get atleast 1 more match with Brock/Goldberg, obviously having Heyman spin it as "Brock didn't take it seriously, and it was a fluke" plus, they can now have 2 guys get over by getting wins against Brock, and also Goldberg. You can make a baby face by slaying the beast, AND make a heel by taking out Goldberg, and really maximize your return of ending the Undertaker's streak. The loss didn't hurt Brock, or lessen his mystique, and it put Goldberg right there on Brock's level INSTANTLY. Again, the ONLY way this would've worked is with the Goldberg character, and him looking the way he does. I loved this!!! I hope WWE plays this right, and doesn't screw it up!! That's a big ask, though!! I know!!

I actually think that main event was a success. It did three things: 1) Kept it short, which is what we all wanted, 2) It was different and unpredictable (which in the WWE is a definite plus) and 3) It was an upset-which is to say, it was realistic. Why do we, in wrestling, ALWAYS expect a back and forth bout? We get that in every match throughout the year, an exchange of blows-back an forth. In the real world, in nearly every sport including boxing and the UFC, one-sided upsets DO happen.Why can't we appreciate this one-sided upset for the unique moment in wrestling, that it was? It was a success. Just because the outcome did not happen like we all expected does not mean that it was a failure or that it wasn't a success. Vince and WWE (for all of the shit they get wrong throughout the year-for years) got it right, whether people want to admit it because of their ego, or not.

The men's elimination was enough to justify the other matches being kind of by the numbers for me, and the Brock vs Goldberg was awesome for the entrances, and the match itself was shocking, even if it wasn't really much of a match. I love Solomonster, this guy is the best Wrestling podcaster around and his straight-down-the-middle approach to his reviews and opinions is awesome. But I have to disagree with him about the main event of this show, it was AWESOME seeing Lesnar dominated for a change! And you know, sometimes it's just nice to get that great moment, maybe it doesn't make sense if you over-analyze the situation, but who cares, it was a great moment! Plus, this could lead to a different Brock Lesnar, more focused, more intense, less arrogant, and maybe he will start to actually wrestle in his matches for a change! We know he can cos he used to do it all those years ago, so to see the return of the Brock Lesnar from 02-03 would be incredible and would make him even more watchable, as you know you will be getting more than just Suplex, Suplex, Suplex, F-5 in his matches, so overall, the ending to this match was unexpected and awesome, some fans and IWC marks might disagree but, in my opinion, your all wrong.

I think a number of reasons why Goldberg won in the fashion he did might include: 1. Goldberg's injury. 2. This is Brock's punishment for failing the drug test. 3. This is meant to destroy that "Suplex City" shit that Brock has relied on and actually make him work his ass off again, I don't know about you guys but I want the old Brock Lesnar back! 4. +PAOerful One wrong. Goldberg is the least interesting wrestler on the planet. It is more fun to watch paint dry than watch any Goldberg match. Again, here's hoping that they don't have a rematch and Goldberg fades into obscurity like a flash in the pan deserves. That is, after all, what he is. It makes no sense for him to beat Brock. There's where you go wrong. He is like Brock, he's not a wrestler, he's a destroyer, a monster. He's the original Beast. Watch any given Goldberg match from WCW in 1997-1998, the guy was a monster. And well, as far as not being interesting or not being very fun to watch, well.... the night he came back was the first time RAW ratings were above 3 million in weeks. So, yeah, a whole lot of people care about Goldberg and want to see him even if you don't. That makes you the minority.

I actually didn't mind the finish to the Miz vs. Zayn match. Mainly because this draws even more heel heat on the Miz and his wife Maryse. And I really didn't want to see Sami Zayn win the IC title. However I really did NOT like having the New Day get eliminated 1 minute into the match. Just a terrible way to feature your 1+ year world tag team Champions. At least the New Day had one elimination tho. All in all, a mostly underwhelming show. But I will admit, I did go to bed happy and shocked with Goldberg beating Brock Lesnar in less than 90 seconds. Loved seeing Brock Lesnar get squashed like that after having to see him squash guys like Ambrose and Orton in boring ass matches. I was there, man, and maybe it was just my section, Maybe it was the live experience, but I had a really great time. They were into a lot of the Women’s match. Totally agree about the decision to take the belt off Dolph. Sami has been losing his way into this match, we had no reason to get excited. And he looked dumb in the loss. People don’t get behind stupid faces. The cruiserweights match was really sad. It was hard to get into it, the division just feels like a forced afterthought. No one cared. There’s no heat. Especially now mixing in heavyweights like Corbin. Live note: Cesaro did a great thing where he said hello to a Bret Hart cosplayer in the crowd and put on his signature shades. Nice move. The 10-thing was totally a Tye Dillinger thing. And hey, they should’ve booked a Last Man Standing Match on raw the next night, seeing how over 10 counts were. How many nights are count-outs over? Made a good chunk of the wrestlers’ job easy. I loved the Goldberg exhibition. I wanted to see him kick ass, be strong, not sell a lot. Stuff like this creates something strongly lacking in wrestling, and that’s unpredictability. I watch PPVs for surprises, and we definitely got one. Thumbs up!

there is a potential story to be told with the Goldberg and Lesnar match, whether WWE do it is another thing but...Its kinda like an mma style situation where the dominant fighter thinks his opponent is going to be easy pickings and then gets destroyed. eg. Bisping vs Rockhold 2 where Rockhold who was the middleweight champion thinks he is going to steamroll Bisping like he did in their previous match but instead he gets knocked out by Bisping in the first round. With this they could build up lesnar being obsessed with getting another crack at Goldberg to avenge his humiliating loss and make amends for overlooking the 'old' goldberg and because the crowds are so weird these days, lesnar would end up getting the babyface treatment while they will boo goldberg. they wrestle at wrestlemania or royal rumble and Lesnar gets his victory, goldberg retires and you have an even bigger crowd favorite in lesnar.

My big problem with the match and finish is that forever now, Brock has been destroying the roster. He's been built as an unbeatable monster. Goldberg comes in and destroys the monster easily. Even if Goldberg signs on for another match or two, they've effectively made Brock look weak and the ENTIRE roster look weaker. I'll admit, I enjoyed Goldberg when I was a teenager watching him destroy everyone, but eventually I couldn't wait for him to be beat because I realized how weak everyone looked as a result. It took Nash, a gang of people, and essentially a taser to finally beat him. Everyone just looked so weak. After watching the PPV last night, all I could think is you have a nearly 50 year old person, who's been out of the ring for 12 years, come in an easily destroy the only destroyer on the show. Yes, you completely fooled me and I was shocked, but you did it at the expense of the fans and the wrestlers who have been destroyed by a guy who is already a part-timer. Why would I care if such-and-such beats Brock now? Why lay waste to the Undertaker's streak then? Because who was going to win was so obvious you had the ability to shock the audience, and you took it. By doing so, for the first time, I actually felt embarrassed to be a fan. After such an incredibly long streak of very bad writing on the show, they took it further. I'm not saying I want the show to be predictable, but I do want it to make sense. If they've got this master storyline they want to pull or something, I'd have more faith if I wasn't watching so many bad storylines, major missed opportunities, and the fact that Brock wasn't a part-timer along with Goldberg having possibly 1-2 matches left in him.
@skeeterscater
8 жыл бұрын
why is it making everyone look weak? Why can't it just be that Goldberg looks strong. If Lesnar won what would honestly be gained? Another Shit match like Brock vs. Orton at summerslam? This was a great nostalgic moment for fans. There is a reason why the crowd didn't boo the finish. If you feed Goldberg to a guy like Rusev, Reigns or Strowman, theoretically, you gain more now than if you had fed them Brock.
@VoidBL
8 жыл бұрын
Goldberg had a win over Lesnar already and they built him up as the only guy who could threaten Brock in raw power. So no the match made no one look weak. As far as we're concerned Goldberg and Brock are on a league of their own.

Spot on, long term credibility and logic far outweights short term shock, such a wasted opportunity for someone meaningful to inherit the streak! The damage is done, who cares if Lesnar gets his revenge the opportunity is gone

So you'd rather just have Roman Reigns beat Lesnar? That's the only other way they would've gone with that. That wont get Roman cheered, This was the only solution to beat Brock and still get cheered. Now someone can beat goldberg which is now more meaningful than beating Brock
@retroshane8844
8 жыл бұрын
+skeeterscater Your assuming Reigns would be the guy picked I think Goldberg sticks around till mania in a program with lesnar and leaves I wouldn't have a problem with the Reigns scenario if he was booked as a heel! Beating a 50 year old Goldberg who has been out the ring for 12 years has less impact than beating Lesnar who beat the streak and squashed Cena, the rub from beating Lesnar would have been huge, Lesnar will beat Goldberg in the return but the perception of him has now been damaged and the rub anyone gets from defeating Lesnar now is massively diminished

I loved that Goldberg match. I was so sick and tired of Brock Lesnar just mowing down everybody in 2016 that I was happy. Finally, he got the taste of his own medicine. And in hindsight it was great.

I think the last match taints peoples feeling about the PPV! Cause i though the first two matches were fine, the tag and cruiser weight matches were really good, except for Baron Corbin of couse, and the men's 5 on 5 was f*cking epic! So overall a good PPV, one of the better big 4!

bxgirlhs Really?! This was the guy who broke Undertaker's streak, reduced John Cena to a practice dummy for suplexing and damned near killed Big Show with at least 50 chair shots. WWE spent time and money building this man-monster mystique around Brock Lesnar and he jobs to Goldberg. I wonder if he'll ever show his face in the Octagon again! After this fiasco it'll probably be like blood in the water now.

Quick Question here: People are saying again... and again... and again: "Oh Brock is sooooo boring. He needs to lose a Match already. His Suplex City thing is getting boring....", but then, when he finally lost a match: People are angry?! Are you kidding me? Here are some reasons, why this Match made sense: -- Vintage Goldberg (He felt like the WCW Goldberg in this match and not like stupid WWE Goldberg) -- Brock Lesnar pretty much was so arrogant at that point, that he was 100% sure, that no one could ever beat him.... cause he is the "One in 21 - 1" and the one "Who conquered John Cena".... so he thought, that Goldberg would be a piece of cake.... his arrogance was his downfall in that match! -- Its Goldbergs LAST MATCH. You really wanted to have Goldberg lose to Lesnar in his last Match? Why? Because Lesnar lost to Goldberg at WM20? Wasn´t it you, you said more then once, that you hate that ping-pong style of WWE?! -- FINALLY WWE suprised us with an ending of a match! It took WWE a long time to really suprise me about an ending! -- Again: It was his last Match! To end his WWE run with a vintage Goldberg Match was billiant to me!

TheCrusaderVault For the most part I strongly agree with you. It was awesome and actually kinda hilarious seeing Lesnar get squashed in less than 90 seconds to Goldberg. The one part where I disagree with you is that I don't think this match was Goldberg's last match. I think we will probably see a rematch between Lesnar and Goldberg at the Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania 33. Personally I would rather see Goldberg and Leanar have their rematch at the Royal Rumble, and maybe have that rematch be a No Disqualification match.

It probably should've gone longer but they wanted to protect Goldberg. Goldberg was never a great in ring performer. Add that with a 12 year layoff, 49 years old, and a reported shoulder injury. Anything over 5 minutes would've been a disaster. The ppv was promoted as 4 hrs but ended at 3 1/2 hrs.

Wrestling is all about rivalries. Undertaker kicks everybody ass but Brock always has his number. So the same is with Brock. He kicks every body ass except Goldberg. Even triple h beat every body except Batista. It's good for wrestling that Brock did the job like that. It shows he is willing to do what it takes for the business and I gained a lot of respect for him for doing the job in a minute like that.

I believe the Psychological aspect that they can push with how the Goldberg-Lesnar match went is that Brock got cocky, arrogant, overconfident, soft, lazy, and completely underestimated his opponent, and not just any opponent, Bill Fucking Goldberg. And he paid a humiliating price for it. Now he from here on in, he is out for blood.

The one thing I liked about the setup for Survivor Series this year was that both elimination matches had teams consisting of faces and heels - something I don't think has been done since 1995 but should always be done as it makes those Survivor Series matches unique as it keeps people wondering if the competitors can keep their differences aside to achieve victory. I hope WWE keeps doing this from here on out, even though it took so long to get back to doing. For those bitching over the Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar match, you're most likely people who wouldn't have been satisfied whatever the outcome was. If Brock won, you'd complain that WWE is too predictable as always and that they were under-handling Goldberg like they did with Sting. Some moaners' arguments are just so hypocritical that they can't be taken seriously. "Brock beat The Undertaker's streak and dominates everyone in sight and now loses swiftly to a 50 year old coming out of retirement" - oh, so now you're fine with Brock ending the streak since you're using that to defend Brock? The last I remember, you lot threw a temper tantrum over that. Plus, you lot didn't like Brock getting win after win in predictable fashion. Isn't what he got from Goldberg some sort of deserving punishment for that? Besides, what do you think made Goldberg special in the first place? Squash matches like these which built up his streak back in WCW, in which he came off as a believable monstrous foe!

Its really weird. On one hand, Goldberg getting the win makes no real sense. He would still be a legend regardless of the outcome and Brock will continue to be built up as unstoppable titan, at least until they build up another huge rising star that would massively benefit from pinning Brock. And yet...there was something just so satisfying and nostalgic about seeing Brock get his ass beat after talking all that mess about not letting his wife and kid see the match. For 90 seconds it felt like the old days where you never really knew who was going to be absolutely destroyed and when. It was some much needed unpredictability to spice things up, a break in the formula WWE has gotten so comfortable with, for better or worse.

I can understand why people are shocked that Lesnar got squashed so fast, but I don't understand why people are shocked Goldberg won. I knew from the beginning he would. Lesnar is a younger established talent that has been booked as such a god no single loss would really hurt his reputation. Goldberg is an old returning veteran coming in for one last match. Having him lose would have been a waste of everything they spent to bring him in. Not to mention he's the face of their newest videogame. The one they want everyone to buy to play as him. Why would you want to play as guy who turn out to be just another Lesnar victim? Instead Goldberg crushed Lesnar and made out looking like a god of yore who returned to smite the young upstart. Also, please remember that both Lesnar and Goldberg are limited when it comes to in ring abilities. They couldn't do what they did with Rock and Hogan where the old veteran gives a hell of a fight and ultimately loses to the young guy, because neither Goldberg or Lesnar are good enough ring technicians to have that kind of a drawn out back and forth fight. See the first Goldberg/Lesnar match for proof of that. The only way this match could end and be reasonably good was for one man to squash the other, and they were not going to have Lesnar squash Goldberg after everything they spent to bring him back. This really couldn't have ended any other way.

Will Thompson Yeah... He beat sting for the championship in 3 minutes at Halloween Havoc. Also the giant in 2 minutes. He beat Curt Henning in 3 minutes at bash at the beach. Lex Luger in 3.... His matches rarely went over 5-7 minutes when you take away the entrances etc.
@willthompson9197
8 жыл бұрын
jxxlion I'm talking about his high profile or main event matches. He only went 3 mins with Sting because he wrestled Sid that night and Hogan was supposed to wrestle Sting. Henning was hurt so that match wasn't lasting long and Luger is whatever. Goldberg didn't have 2min matches with DDP, Nash and he's had several matches with Giant. Some ended quick others didn't. Hell his match with Meng went 8 mins.
@dilshanization
8 жыл бұрын
Will Thompson Those were high profile, main event matches... At the main event of halloween havoc 2000 he beat Brian Adams & Bryan Clark in 3 mins. If you factor in nitro and thunder matches, you have plenty of matches with top guys that are under 2 minutes too. My point is, he doesn't ordinarily have long matches and contrary to what you're saying, he's beat plenty of top guys in 2-3 mins.. Yeah, the DDP match was 'long' for Goldberg at about what, 8 minutes including all the stalling and pacing around..That's an outlier, I'll give you that one. Oh and he won the heavy weight belt from Hogan in 8 minutes too, I guess that's long for Goldberg.
