I like how Bobby slowly built up the song as one very long crescendo. Looking forward to the next one!

You know what I really like about most of the A Capella singers (groups)? They have their own thing going on but don’t mind mixing it up with other artists. I don’t know how many things I’ve seen Bobby in. And Tim Foust? He’s everywhere you look. 🤣 I can name so many. And if they’re in a group their group supports them doing other things. And the collaborations between artists all over the world i.e. the bass gang. How many Amazing songs they made without ever meeting each other in person? It’s so nice to see these new or seasoned artists showing the world just how awesome the music can be if we just share a feeling of community and rejoice in each other’s accomplishments. A true model of what our world can be.

Many moons ago, Bobby and Mortius had a conversation about their ranges. Bobby talked about ignoring most of his range in favor of developing the “money makers” and now playing a whole lot of catch up. You can definitely see/hear the improvement in his upper range. Fantastic as always.

Bobby doesn't have the smoothness in his voice or the heart wrenching tone like Geoff does Geoff knows how to reach deep down into your soul. I also notice that whenever Bobby sings it's always in my an area where his voice can resonate like a church or cavern.

Another version of the song you might wanna check out is from Gregorian (that was a band made of people with Gregorian singing skills). It's not to everyone's liking but I love that version. It's not what one would call powerful or anything but simply a soothing rendition

This was a lovely version, not a lot of showing off, not too much noodling with the original. He and Geoff are fighting it out for their placement, but both are far above PTX. I know the last one will be above PTX's because I've heard it, and I doubt it will pass the others, but I will try to give it a fair hearing against the others.

Okay, I'm back. I've listened to Simon and Garfunkel, Peter Hollens and Tim Foust, Pentatonix, Geoff, and Bobby. I tried to put my automatic preference aside and listen objectively. I found things that I liked in all of them. Simon and Garfunkel - maybe because recording wasn't as good in 1968, maybe because they were stoned, I didn't like it as much as I did when they introduced it. Peter and Tim - both great singers, but all the layering was too much. I've seen them do at least one other piece together, but there were fewer of the two of them. The end of this one was clever. Pentatonix - maybe if they were doing the Sounds of Christmas, but I didn't care for theirs. Beautiful, but it seemed to be all show and no emotion. Geoff - I think that the riff on 'listening' wasa little overdone. Bobby Bass- I didn't care for the arrangement, it had too many changes in melody and didn't seem to flow. Is number six Disturbed? In that case, I will listen, but I've never liked it. We'll see.

BROS, Your Channel just now come up, and looking back on your past reactions, I especially liked those about Oliver Anthony But first I admit I'm not familiar with this guy's music. He does sound good, however. Being a fan of "Disturbed", featuring David Draiman, I supposed his version of the song was the 'end-all'. The originator of "Sound of Silence" was the folk duo Simon and Garfunkel. Paul Simon said of David Draiman's version, "It's no longer our song". FYI: Please react to more Oliver Anthony and I will Subscribe to your Channel. "I've Gotta Get Sober", "90 Some Chevy", "Doggonit", "Rich Men's Gold", "Virginia"......and more. In the New Year Oliver is planning a tour across America. He's hired a talent agency to prepare for his upcoming concert dates, including which venues; sales of tickets; plus all the legal aspects like liability insurance and so on. He's just been blessed with his third child within the past few weeks. Currently he says he's been writing new music for an upcoming album. THANK YOU, I really enjoyed listening to your diverse comments and opinions, they're all good!

I love that music can be subjective. This is not quite my favorite version of this piece, but it is very well put together. I know that he does opera, but I had a hard time hearing the whole piece like he had his mouth full (again just my opinion). The arrangement was very well made just not my cup of tea.

It was a good version not great for me. However I was watching his mouth. My first thought was: "Damn the dude spent a lot of money on crowns for his teeth!" But in my defense last night was boys night out eating Mexican food and drinking goldfish bowl margaritas. So of the 5 versions I've heard I would put this at 3.

I just listened to three different versions of Simon and Garfunkel singing this, including the one you reacted to. They sang sound, not sounds until the very last time it came up in the song, when it was whispered in the sounds of silence.

Yes, that's true. When the original album came out it was called the Sounds of Silence. The record label then named that track Sounds of Silence, as well. Paul later came out and said that it was always supposed to just be"sound."

@grandmaimhungry8135. My vote is with you, from what I heard of the rest of the lot. I'm a trained singer as well, and besides being the most dramatic, Disturbs version featuring David Draiman has to be the best, hand down. David was trained as a Cantor, which means among other things, he had to have a good voice to begin with!

Sorry I hit the Wrong key. Anyways... In an interview with the Charismatic Voice he tells her why. There is a 10 minute short you can find and listen to. I'm not going to paraphrase it because that would really be bad. However, it's the closest opinion I've heard that makes sense. At the time Paul wrote this song he was married to Carrie Fisher. It was before she was diagnosed with bipolar and she stated many times that only when he was singing that her mind was quiet. I think he wrote this song for her. You should really go listen to David's reasons. They resonate what is most likely the truth. Sorry I don't have the link for you but it's easy to find. Love your reactions and podcasts! When I need a pick me up I come spend time with you. Oh, and I like Geoffs version the best. And as for Bobby, he has a scary low chest voice. Several keys below Geoff's A1

S&G released this in 1964. Carrie Fisher would have been around 5-6 yrs old, so I doubt Simon even knew Fisher, let alone be married to her.

Funnily enough, they were married for 11 months in '83-'84. But you are right, there's no way that sound of silence could have been about Carrie Fisher. But I could see it being possibly true that him singing may have helped quiet Carrie's mind from time to time.

@@weaintraisedrightpodcast yes I remember when they were married. I didn't mean to imply that they had been married at one point, just that not at the time of release of Sound Of Silence. RIP Carrie.
