In the 3rd episode of this series I examine the naval history of South Africa and highlight the difficult attempts to build up a navy in a country more focused on land. Ultimately the flotillas of small ships that not only protected South African Waters in WWII but did heroic service in the Mediterranean Theatre, culminated in the extraordinary feats of Rene Sethren in 1941.
