I heard that Toby Keith originally only sang this song at USO shows and wasn't planning on recording it for the public. It was just a song to entertain and raise morale for the troops. And I think he accomplished his goal with this song. Eventually someone convinced him that the public also needed to hear it.

It's possible, but keep in mind the album was released in May 2002 so about 7 months after 9/11, and given the lyrics it would have to have been written, approved, and recorded afterward, and in less than 7 months, more likely 6. So if that is indeed true it couldn't have been used at many USO shows exclusively.
@UncLester
Жыл бұрын
@@terryhiggins5077 You had me questioning myself so I looked it up and I was partially correct. Apparently Toby said it himself on 60 Minutes. Found this on CBS's website for that interview. But the song he is best known for is called "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)," and he told 60 Minutes II that he wrote it in just 20 minutes, a week after 9/11. He wrote it to play for troops on USO tours - something he often volunteers to do. He never intended to release the song on a CD, but then, he played it for Pentagon brass in Washington. "He [the Marine Corp commandant] said, 'You have to release it. You can serve your country in other ways besides suiting up in combat.' We will go kick their butts. But we survive on morale," says Keith. "I mean, we live on the morale. That's what we travel on. And, he said I highly recommend you put that song out."

Toby Keith did over 11 USO tours, he never got a dime for any of them. He paid his way for the band and the entire cost so that he could show the servicemen. He was behind him, and he wanted to thank him for their service and uplifted them at the same time, unfortunately on February 5 we lost a true American patriot to stomach cancer but his songs will forever live on especially this one. I come from an entire military background. Every male in my family has been in one of the services and I always get chills when I hear this songand I’ve been hearing it since 83 and it hasn’t changed at all

I enlisted in the US ARMY after 9/11 as a medic. I left my very young son home in Virginia but I had the ability to always run towards helping & our brothers& sisters were being mutilated so I knew I had the ability to help. Unfortunately, during my advanced training I was injured in my hip & it disabled me since 2004 & I'm grateful to be home to watch my son & later on, my daughter grow up. I would be lying if I didn't wake each day w/ a soul wrenching pain knowing all my brothers& sisters I could have helped. & I have all my limbs while so many don't. 1 day I hope to reconcile these feelings.but until the God Bless the USA!💕🙏🏻🇺🇸
